The computer is actually a netbook, not a laptop, unless your lap is really small. EEEPC 900HA. Pretty sad little book, 1.6GHZ with 1GB of RAM. I thought about upgrading it a bit, but at this point all I want to do for it is get a new battery and re-install an OS. It's way overdue for a OS install, windows is all sorts of bloated and slow at this point. Mine came with XP 4-5 years ago, but the same computer was also sold with Linux, though I don't know which version. At least the all the drivers are sure to be out there. I downloaded Ubuntu 13.04, put the ISO on a fast USB stick following the directions from Ubuntu to make it bootable, checked the BIOS which was already set to check USB for first boot device, but I get nothing. I'll try a CD/DVD next, using an external DVD drive.
I'm not too particular about the GUI- X, Gnome, whatever. The last Ubuntu version I used was 8.04, I can only imagine how much has changed or stayed the same. Back then you couldn't play MP3s with paying or saying you live in another country. The codec issue was a deal breaker in the end. I hope the newer versions are better. I have Ubuntu 12.04.2 and 13.04 ISOs, but I can't download things that big at home, I have to drive 25-30 minutes to a friends house and use their internet. If I'm better off using a lighter weight version, I have to arrange that ahead of time. I'm backing up everything on it today, I can try a new OS install late tonight or tomorrow. Poor, sad little computer.
Hula with everything going on lately I forgot to mention to you that my son, dil and grandchildren are in Hawaii this week..they are staying at Maui. I'm already seeing some very cute pictures and they are having a great time.
On another sad note there were two young girls abducted at the bus stop in a town close to us yesterday afternoon..the 12 year old escaped and a farmer in the field found her and got help, the 15 year old is still missing and the sob that did it killed himself last night. Extensive search has been in progress since they were taken...let's hope they can find that little girl safe and bring her home before dark tonight. Too much sadness these days.
Trust me, no story there. I was just speaking in general terms about being cautious with website choice sometimes. There are way too many dark alleys out there in the interwebverse.

Me either but I gave up doubting people's reviews a long time ago. I don't care for any of the Ahlusion flavors (I tried 12 of them) and there are people who think I'm nuts.

We have very similar taste Dust, but not with DD.
Not to get too descriptive here. The toilet paper at the hospital is not for frequent flyers. One antibiotic was causing the runs for several days. I think it is next step away from emory cloth. Riding my bike could get very incomfortable on the skinny seat.
Lubuntu or Xubuntu likely would work great. There is also Linux Mint. The mp3 issue is fixed. I too began with 8.04 and the OS has greatly improved. The Long Term Support (LTS) versions are good for at least 3 years of support I believe. The LTS comes out every 2 years, usually in April. The versions between, released every 6 months, are tweaked slightly over the LTS. There are also flash and Java available as open source and actually run smoother in my opinion. There have remained issues with the 64 bit versions, at least for some of the needs I have. Now that I will no longer be working I could use the 64bit but feel the 32bit, standard version runs just as fast and has Physical Address Extension (PAE) enabled when the ram is over 3Gib. The Ubuntu forums are a wealth of information. I am on there under the same handle as the ECF.

Hats off to the people of Oklahoma who pull up their boot straps and help each other. I learned a long time ago 95% of juice reviews are completely useless to me. The other 5% are people I've become very familiar with over time. 10 people can review the exact same juice and give 10 different opinions of it.
Bronze I think you're nuts..but that's beside the point I totally agree with the lessons we can learn from those in Oklahoma dealing with the devastation..very strong spirited people.

Exciting news today.. I just got a job offer for an office much closer to home! I meet with the Dr. on Friday to discuss it. I'm scared! Have been commuting for 10 years, 80-90 miles round trip. I can't even imagine only being 15 minutes from home. My boss/dr won't be happy (if I take it) but hopefully he'll understand.
