Congrats Robin! What a cutey pie!

Congrats Hula! I'm happy for you!

No baby today. They are ballooning her cervix (8-o). Induce tomorrow. We were all dressed and about to head out the door to the hospital when Mom called. So we went to the Waffle House instead. :)

Lots of progress on the basement. I still have more to do, but it looks totally different now. We will have plenty of room for the pool table with lots of seating around it and more room to spare! My back is feeling it for sure....

The foley balloon works so well. We only have a few Drs that know how to do it, 3cm and that just pops on out! Is it their first baby? I think it was. It takes a long time to induce for PIH especially if she's on Mag. I'd plan on not seeing that baby till tomorrow.. (and if it's sooner, then, YAY!).

Good job on the basement.

That's the first time I've ever heard of the ballooning. And yes this is their first birth (they have an adopted son). And Pappy, they are having a little girl named Charley! I can't WAIT.

The basement looks fabulous! I'm very pleased.

it's the tip to a foley catheter, around 8 inches long? the very tip inflates when you inject saline into it, so the foley un-inflated gets inserted thru the opening of the cervix (that can hurt is she isn't dilated a little) then once it's past the cervical opening it gets inflated with 10 cc of saline creating the "balloon" that is around 3cm in diameter. Some form of traction is the tied or taped onto the foley part that is extended (out the vaginal canal). We use a bag of IV fluid and tape it to her thigh, the traction applies pressure to the cervix forcing it to open, once she gets to 3 cm it just falls out, then you can break water and start pit. HTH (sorry boys, I tried to keep it as non graphic as I could).

It really works well, and it's not an induction agent on a pharmaceutical level, so there's no stress to the baby.

I'm OK. I'm still here. It's fascinating. All the different ways to deliver a baby. Had to be rough in the olden days. During colonial times, they waited two years before naming their children because so many didn't make it two years.

We've come a long ways.. but there are a lot of herbal remedies they used in biblical times that work well too, they had their ways, way back then...I read the book The Red Tent and it was about that, a midwife in biblical times and it was fascinating that they dealt with a lot of the same issues I see but with herbs. And let's not forget in the olden days, women and children died during childbirth. That number is climbing again (due to a variety of things, mostly medical advances in treating things like CHD and those children now living to child bearing ages, but pregnancy puts a lot of stress on the cardiovascular system that weak hearts are not meant to endure).

I'll stop here. :)

I don't know the dye test, I'm strictly in labor and delivery so office procedures I'm foggy on. Hopefully she was at least 1 cm open, it wouldn't hurt at all then.
