Hi guys...
I am a nicotine addict.
(wait, that's not how we start meetings here?)
I'm 41 years old and have been addicted to nicotine for 25 years.
I never cared how I got it - smoking, chewing, dipping - it's never
mattered as long as I got that nicotine in me.

My father smoked his entire life. He could never quit no matter what he tried.
Last October he bought an e-cig at a gas station and after a few days he never touched a real cigarette again. We were SO proud of him. Shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with very advanced lung cancer and he passed away last December. He was my best friend and I still miss him terribly.

Last week it hit me - after all the years and all the failed attempts by my dad to quit smoking, he quit almost immediately with the help of e-cigs. He quit before he was diagnosed, when he still felt well.

SO...

I ordered a little starter kit and received it 3 days ago.
I haven't touched cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco or snuff in 3 days!
Actually I haven't even THOUGHT of using any of the above in the last 3 days.

The only thing I'm thinking now is bigger batteries & bigger tanks...

CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to quit!!! You are not only doing something wonderful for yourself but also for everyone who loves and cares about you. The best gift you can give them is the fact that you are no longer poisoning yourself and you are trying to improve your health. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. You know firsthand how important it is to quit. I think that it is wonderful that you chose to quit smoking!! I am a mother of two and that was my biggest reason for quitting: wanting to be alive to care for my children.
You are so right about thinking about going bigger and better. When I first started I had a small kit that I bought from a smoke shop. Within a week I had upgraded to a better set up and I have upgraded twice more since then!! I have spend lots of money but I always think about the fact that I spent at least $10 a day on cigarettes (a pack and a half of Marlboro Reds) and the cost doesn't seem so bad considering....
Find a good PV that works for you and then comes the fun part... trying out all the different juices. My advice would be to find a local vape shop and sample LOTS of different juices to see what kind you like. I thought I would only like tobacco flavors since I was used to smoking and I was surprised to discover that I like fruity and dessert flavors instead!
Have fun with it!!
Good luck and Welcome!!!!!

Sorry about your father :( my dad passed away 2 years this December ..I took 3 month off work to care for him ..he was my best friend also ..he taught me a lot ,Im happy to hear you have quit ,Vaping is so much better and the sky is the limit on flavor ,,my hubby was a 2 pack a day smoker and went to vap on april 1st this year ,,,yea I have a clean smelling home now ..and we make our own juices I wish you all the best :vapor:

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad!!!

You're making a great life changing decision and it will benefit you greatly. One of the hardest things to do is quit smoking (as we all know) and here is the worlds largest support system ever!!!

For my wife and I, we were both smokers until we purchased two new cars early this year. Funny how we talked about quitting for our health, but in the end...we didn't want our cars smelling like cigs. Go figure huh?

Bottom line...whatever helps you make that plunge!!!!!

All the best!

Thanks!
I'm not disappointed in my starter kit (cigarette sized manual batts with mini-tanks) but I know you are right.
I will be upgrading just for the simple fact that a wall outlet is like a cigarette lighter used to be. (can't go anywhere without one, haha)
I'm in the middle of the woods lol, no local vape shop. I have to drive 15 miles to get to a small town!
This forum is great for me, and might even become invaluable.

Wow. I left my whole life in Dallas to come to Arkansas and help/be with my dad after my dad was diagnosed.
That's hard business and I'm sorry you went through that as well...
Thanks for the well wishes!

Heart breaking story. But you father gave you the chance to save your own life and you honor his memory well by following the path he showed you. As a father myself I know I would be proud of my child as I am sure he is proud of you. Vape on my friend.

Well, considering the fact that my wife thinks I'm already nuts...you can't do any more damage! And don't think you HAVE to upgrade, do it only if what you have, no longer suits your needs. Trust me when I say, this can get VERY, VERY expensive if you let it!

Hi and welcome!

I'm an ECF Addict (That's also not how we start meetings here, but probably should be!)

Along with bigger batts and tanks, don't forget about the juices!

Sorry to hear about your dad.

I'm in no rush to upgrade after 3 days, but I know it's gonna happen, haha.
I can easily see how it could get very expensive, but I can also see how an inexperienced guy like me
can save a lot of time, trouble, and money just by reading here!
Thanks again, and take care!

I know exactly what you mean! I was so happy with my starter kit. It actually helped me quit smoking which is the most important thing. Then I found THIS site and it was all over for me. When I saw all of the awesome gadgets I had to try more and more!
Everyone here is so helpful and knowledgeable. If you have any questions or concerns you will get so much help and advice here. You have found a great resource and support system in ECF.

Too bad about not having a local vape shop. I saved so much money trying out flavors there to see what kinds I preferred. It makes it so much easier to order online when you have an idea of what you like.
Just try to order sample packs that lots of vendors offer. You'll find your way.
What is most important is that you have something that works for you. That is how you will stay away from cigarettes!!

On a different subject, I used to live in Dallas too!! I moved from there about 2 years ago and I miss it terribly!!

Good luck with everything!!

One word. Provari.

Actually, I have a friend that has more than 1 Provari.
The dead one was her fault, dropped in a pool.
She likes it when it is working properly, but it has the same issues as the other one did before the pool incident.

I will never talk bad about a product I have never owned, especially one with such a great reputation and following,
but I just see way too much "fiddle factor" with hers. Constantly having issues. It could be her lack of
knowledge in how to take care of it properly, so there's that.

Her Provari was actually the very first APV I ever saw, and I was blown away.
After hanging out here for a few days, I don' think I would ever drop the money on a Provari.
I see companies making leaps and bounds quite rapidly with models VERY similar to the Provari, at less than half the cost.
I doubt anything cheaper will be the quality of the Provari, but hey, all this Chinese hardware works pretty well, no?

All that being said, I will probably own a Provari in a few weeks:blush:

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and all the replies.
I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but when I post I just can't quit typing!
