if its a really genny style then mesh will be the way to go but it might work just fine with cotton also! Either way, it's hard to see where the usual innovative touch of Vincent Athea is going to come from but whatever one might think that deck is going to look like, be prepared for a surprise! Intriguing!
The taifun BT is just caaaarrrrraaaazzzzyyyyy! SS rope with about a pound of cotton to fill a circular fence made of SS mesh. Add 100W of power and stand back! Using the mesh as the heating element? Brilliant? Madness? Genius? I really dont know haha!!

Dont think it will derail the thread! As I said, the new Athea will be something unexpected for sure. As for the new taifun, all the reviews are still in german atm but check it out! Its a beast!@kiba , what this about a new Taifun?
I hope the mesh thing isnt derailling the thread. Its really just another wick choice; like cotton, silica, rayon or others

So they use the mesh ropes to draw in the liquid and then its cotton? I looked into the Genius because it was so impressive, but saw all those SS ropes and stopped.
I saw the Taifun, didnt even notice ss mesh/ropes, just figured it was a "more air" set up so didnt even think about it again......
Interesting innovations. Ive been thinking of trying some cotton wrapped around the pin instead of mesh. I think some of the In'Ax could be set up like that.

It's funny how different people are, there's always those who see a genny and try to figure out how to put cotton in it, myself I hate cotton only ever used it bc I had to... I was never even able to use it properly until TC came around too. I never undystood though why anyone would take it over mesh... In a tank designed for mesh I mean. Not that there's anything wrong with cotton in general, it's just my opinion that it's kind of a subpar wicking material compared to mesh.
There is the TC thing, though, it's a bit wonky with a mesh wick.

Not sure I agree with that completely. Mesh is, in fact, a totally rubbish wicking material in terms of juice delivery but it is, if used properly, a much better medium for flavour. It is, without doubt, a major PITA to use compared to cotton and although it does work just fine with TC, that needs a bit of thought and care. I like mesh, and have fond memories of it but it really does have some serious limitations also and i just can't be bothered with it any more!
With the In'ax, you can put a really thin mesh tube on the pin and wrap that outer layer off a muji pad around it. This works really well for TC builds as it takes the mesh completely out of the equation and in any case, provided you are careful not to damage the cotton sheath with the wire wraps, no hotspot issues!
I have been vaping for a couple of years and just recently jumped down the rabbit hole. In the past month i have purchased a KF5, Hussar, and Taifun GT3. Really liking them all. Tried to get a skyline (got it in my cart, but sold out before i could check out). Several other unicorns i have been hunting (2k16, skyline, ubertoot). LOL, i thought i would be saving money when i started vaping.
How is that? Compared to cotton it wicks almost instantly and you can put 2 or more grades of it together to get your desired results.
I think too many people tried to roll it way too tight or try to make it into a straw which is only good for something with a post like the in'ax/nextgen.
Here's a vid I made for some peeps on the pit a few years back to show how to use the floppy method how I did it and even ribbon wire without issues...

I still need to try the GTIII and Hussar. The only thing holding me back is that both require additional purchases. Nano tanks, both are really tall, and in the car of the Hussar and additional cap just to use Renault drip tip. That on top of the standard price has caused hesitation. I think if I hold out long enough I can find a good used GTIII. Not sure about Hussar but I'll just have to do with Skyline instead.

I guess it'd depend on how much space you've got to work with. I never had good luck with vertical cotton though, on the Origen dripper I had to fill up those wells to get it to wick all the way to the top.Thats right YOURE the one that suggested the "floppy *ick" wick and it works folks

Me neither... I have tried verts but they never wick correctly for me. I do use horizontal coils on both my Origen Drippers and RTAs. On the RTA, I place the coil in the middle of the 2 larger holes and place the wick legs down to bottom of the tank and let the ends sort of lay on their side, but not too long. Similar thing for the Origen drippers, just shorter of course.
I set up my Nectar tanks and RDA the same way too.

ps what I guess I meant about mesh was that its not as good for big builds where a lot of juice flow is necessary. Otherwise, its great but, as I said, too much trouble for my old lazy bones lol!

Was actually taught a lesson recently. Bought the Kylin to see what the fuss was about. PITA. . .
