Does anyone else have there hobo on a regulated mod? I have 2 hobos wrapped higher ohms and on my ipv2's and after a while i get this nasty plastic taste like im burning the insulator. But when i crack it open the insulator isnt melted or scorched or anything. Anyone else notice this?

No problems here. I don't usually go very low and I haven't used a Hobo on a regulated device yet, but these are both running around .8 ohm, and taste pretty fantastic.

Thats the thing, i have gone low, and no burnt plastic taste. Its when i wrap a higher resistance coil that i get it. Like yesterday, im driving home happily vaping away and all the sudden BAM there it was. Its annoying lol. So i wrapped another coil up and threw it in my other one and it did the same thing within minutes.

I got my Hobo and I'm pretty much screwed. I cannot put a coil on it. The crap grub screws on the negative posts are jammed. I couldn't even loosen one of them and the other I put my coil in, tried to tighten it, which it wouldn't and now that screw is stuck. The Allen key is just stripping when I try to remove it. It still works on the positive posts screws. How disappointing. I dealt with these things on my Orchid clone. I was hoping they would be better on this Hobo being it is authentic, but nope. Oh, and I lost one of the screws on top of that. I may have to end up returning this.

Im not sure how much of this thread you read but a while back with my first hobo i had the same exact problem. The one post wasnt drilled enough and it wasnt drilled cleanly through. And my allen key was stripped on both sides. I would contact Hoberto he will hook you up and help you out, he's your best option. Trust me it gets better from here dont give up on it just yet. Something that helped me was i had a screw that actually fit in the tiny grub screw hole and i just kept screwing it in and out, in and out and it worked. But if you cant even get yours out i dont think that will help much.

Yeah, neither are even coming out. I also tried my Allen key from my Orchid, which is the same size, but nothing. I think they are stripped now.

I had a weird stretch when I was trying different builds where I was getting very harsh vape similar to the effect of having the coil too far from the air source. The hobo's mostly been living on a sig100w so I was trying huge lotta wrap coils trying to see what I could do with the power. None of those worked out well and it was so bad hobo didn't see much action for a period. On my second "back to the basics" build and its back in the regular rotation. dual 5wrap 28awg spaced coils mounted at 45deg .3ohms as close to the air holes as possible. Bottom and top air holes open 50%. Super yummy.

Not sure what the deal was with the harsh vape but I'm loving what I have going right now. The 100w did it's job, yup don't need anywhere near 100w lol. But notta bad mod, great battery life, have a cover on it.

I emailed Hoberto and he said he will send me a new deck. I just had to send a picture of mine with the packaging. That is really cool of him.

To be honest though, it is stuff like this that makes me question why I spend the extra for an authentic. I want to support the actual makers, especially in the USA, but it is disappointing to get something flawed when you spend more than twice for an authentic. My friend just got an Infinite Hobo and he didn't have problems.

No, he may not have a problem now or ever who knows. He also may have gotten lucky, you run into a problem with a clone good luck getting in contact with China about that. And i know what is coming next, yes you could just buy another and another for the price of an authentic, i get it, but with an authentic at least you have that back up that someone will be there to help you when you need extras or need that warranty. Im not saying any of this to be rude or degrading or to get into clone or authentic, that crap is getting old. Infinite makes great stuff, ive bought some of there mods, but rda's i normally dont buy clones of them other then a magma a while ago, personally i dont trust them. And after dealing with and talking with Hoberto and all he's done for me i will never support a clone of any of his products.

I bought a clone to try first. Although it did produce a good vape, it was crap. The 510 screw was up inside the 510 adapter. I backed it out but the way I vaped it on my SRX, I would end up tightening it back in. I had it on my 4nine at first and ended up shorting out a button top VTC5.

Then, when I tried to put a new coil on it one of the negative post screw heads stripped out.

I still ended up buying an authentic. Everything about it was perfect except for a scratch next to the Hobo logo. I emailed Hoberto and received some of the best CS ever. He sent me a new unblemished sleeve, extra grub screws, a drip tip and an allen key screw driver. Outstanding guy.

I'm with HeiSINberg, I won't buy any clones of any of Hoberto's products. He is a stand up guy and stands behind his product.

I understand what you are saying but there is something to be said about contacting a company and having the owner/creator respond back with a solution. Even in this "golden era" of vaping, where innovators are peers, this probably isn't the norm.

Defects happen in all industries. I've had 2 devices come to me faulty in the almost 4 years I've been vaping. Sucks when it happens but it happens.

That said, if you can afford it, I would not let this experience effect your decision to support non-clone devices. The only clone I have in my collection is a Stillare that my father bought me and I can tell you that the build quality cannot be compared to my other RDA's.

Agreed. I dont look down on anyone who buys what they like and buys what they can afford. Lets face it, this is a family and we are all here for the same reason. Everyones always gonna have different opinions and views, i understand. A lot of people buy clones before spending a high price tag to see if they'll like it, it doesnt make anyone any less of a person for that, im tired of people putting people down for that. Its ridiculous. I would just prefer to have that security of having someone who gives a crap and who'll go above and beyond for my vape to be perfect. After all ive been through with the hobo and Hoberto i really do view this whole thing differently, but thats just me, i dont push my views on others. So if it works for you, great, its your life and your money. Vape on all!

I do appreciate that aspect and I do know what that is like. Calling it the golden era is a good way to put it.
I bought a synthesizer from a small company run by a guy that used to run one of the biggest synthesizer companies in the US back in the seventies and eighties. I had issues, that were of my own fault, and the guy called me and we chatted for about a half hour, not just about my problem. I doubt I would have got such service back when he was running a bigger operation, but since his new business is smaller, he has less customers to support. His new business has since grown, so I'd imagine he doesn't have quite as much time to deal with customers on a personal level.

I have built and rebuilt my hobo over a dozen times so far and cant dial it in just yet. With every build/wicking I try I get a tone of splash back, I'm pretty much drinking juice at this time. Could anyone give me some tips on how to fix this problem ?!?!?
I had this problem too a while back, i was getting more juice then vapor. Not sure what i did but it just kinda went away. I find when i have a higher ohm coil as appose to a sub ohm build that helps, as long as the watts arent too high. I also noticed that horizontal coils are more prone to do it than vertical coils. I try to move my coils out and as close to the air holes as much as possible, this helps so there not so close to the drip tip when i vape it, if that makes sense.

Makes plenty sense, I'll give your suggestions a shot tonight mines higher ohm builds. lol. I'm only using my hobo on mech and stay with builds around .10-.25. I love this RDA even with the spitback and I know its a user error since I have been searching the interwebs and haven't seen anyone really having an issue other than me. Think I'm even going to double up on this RDA its just to sexy.

Yup, same here.

Just posted this in the High End Mechs thread...

Can't remember atm if mine was 24g or 26g Kanthal. 3/4 wrap, 2mm ID, .18Ω dual horizontals wicked with rayon. Coils are slap up against the air holes. All air holes wide open.

There's a little popping going on but I am not getting much, if any, spit back with that build.

One other thing too is that the hobos are all i use. So ive gotten pretty good at judging how much to drip and how much not too. Thats where a lot of my spit back came from in the beginning. You'll notice it'll go away once you get more familiar with it. It does hold a lot of juice but i find if i use it to its capacity with certain builds it'll spit like crazy. And on a fresh build i let the rayon soak for a good 15 mins before i jump on it, but this is all very subjective to my likes, hopefully something we've said will help you.
