I know that you can re-tap them with a 2-56 bottom tap without having to drill anything out ahead of time. I know that the screws that come with it are metric, but I don't know the size.
I re-tapped mine for 2-56, and everything has been solid ever since...

Thanks for the info! I'm pretty sure I have that tap at home in my set, so I will be attempting that on my next rebuild. The hardware store in town near me should have the fasteners as well.

Just make sure that it is a bottom tap and not a starter tap... the taper of the starter tap will not allow you to cut the threads that you want before the tip of the tap bottoms out. :)

I don't like having the cap just lightly tightened/semi-loose... because then it turns when I try to adjust airflow... I just snug it up, and if I have to use pliers to take it off, then so be it. Not like I'm rebuilding the coils every day...

sorry i should have rephrased that -

I don't mean literally loose.

I mean hand tight, just enough to where it's tight. Yes, the device isn't good for people who want to adjust their airflow all the time. For people like me, who only vape it wide open, it's easy enough for me to line up the holes, and put the cap on... im never messing with airflow - I drip juice in, line up holes, push it down.

Need to rebuild? Take off top cap, then unscrew, not a problem.

I guess from the posts I need an ultrasonic cleaner to fix mine, the plastic taste may be created from metal shavings, which makes sense.

I will try that tonight... i dont have an ultrasonic cleaner, but I'll think of something.

Hey guy's I have the V2 clone and I got rid of the plastic taste by removing the top insulator. Mine was a rubber material and was melting slowly. What I did was I have a fogger v4 I removed the bottom peek insulator from my fogger and used it for the top insulator for my Hobo. It was a little tight for the copper post to fit inside of so I removed a small amount of material with a 5/32 drill bit so all good. The pic is the rubber insulator that came with the hobo that was giving the plastic taste and the atty on the left is my fogger with the bottom insulator removed. You can see I trimmed the insulator with a razor while it was still installed and it was not good enough the taste was still there but its ok now.

Where'd ya get a clone that used rubber insulators?

Please don't tell me FT... mine's coming tomorrow.

I'm trying to get my V3 clone (CLT) to work better. I took out the top o-ring off the wall so I could take the top cap off easier. I think I might've messed up the other o-ring, or need to put the 2nd one back, because now it's not airtight - if I plug all the airholes and try to suck, a little air gets through either the cap or the 3rd airhole on the side.
Maybe I'll try replacing all the o-rings

I had to trash my 1st 26g horizantal build because it was burning the insulator (damn that thing is high).

This time, I moved them closer to the airholes, and tried 10 wraps of 26g on a 5/64in bit; dual microcoils @ 0.5 ohms - I wanted to try a higher resistance, to try to run it on a higher wattage on my new IPV3. I also installed the coils at about a 45degree angle instead of horizantal this time, the bottoms meet the bottom of the airflow.
..... ^ it's working OK, but it's real airy no matter what, and I feel the vapor should be thicker. I think it's the o-rings/air-leak, but I want to try a different build too.

edit: I also forgot to mention - I installed the coils on the wrong side, so I have to slightly unscrew the wall so that the airflow slots are in the right place (in front of the coils). This could be causing the slight leak, and the airy vape

Any suggestions?

For anyone who's been waiting for the drip cap to go on sale. My impatience finally got the better of me and I got in touch with Hoberto via email asking about them this morning. He has the black, white and amber drip caps that you can get your hands on by contacting him. I also have a couple of their delrin drip tips coming from VaporDNA for Christmas. I didn't ask if he had those available since mine were already on order.

This is exactly what happened to me. Now I have ten.

Most versatile atomizer on the market IMO. Full on flavor, but the vapor isn't lacking either!

I really love my Hobo on a mech but I am going to have to get at least one more to use on my Flask in TP mode. If I don't like the vape, I can always just drop it on another mech.
Thats what i always used mine with, mechs. But since ive got a few regulated box mods and switched the hobos over to them, i love it! Now i have all these mods and attys that really get no love anymore, i should really go through them and start thinning them out little by little.

You make me feel much better about my paltry 4. :D

I use mine with my Sigelei 100 Watters usually. It's a great combination.

I guess I need to get a ultrasonic cleaner (someone mentioned that on here, a ECF user who also had the metallic-like flavor), because I tried cleaning the ..... out of mine, and I still get this weird metallic like flavor.

I've tried probably 20 builds on it, wasted at least $30.00 in G-Plat wire :(

I love the Koh Gen Do organic cotton pads, they're my fav. No build seems to get rid of the flavor... I've tried normal 28g Kanthal 1.2 ohm builds, I've tried G-Plat builds down to the 0.18ohm range...they all have the same metallic juice flavor... I've tried different juices... nothing fixes it.

The only thing I can think of is that (like someone mentioned on this thread) that it is metallic grease from the engravings/threading. I'll take pictures of mine when I get home and post.

I own a legitimate Hobo V2 RDA - not a clone. I bought the sub-ohm edition from VaporDNA - Basically comes with a super wide drip tip for cloud chasing, and a a custom engraving on the side... that's the only difference I've seen. My sub-ohm version also came with the actual HOBO drip tip... which changing out the drip tip does nothing to the flavor, still the metallic-like flavor.

This thing hits pretty damn good - not as good as my ONslaught or Stillare V3 - but those are 4-post native triple coil RDA's, so they are made to hit harder.... In my hobo I have only been building dual coil builds, normal coils, vertical coils, etc. Nothing fixes it.

Can anyone make a good recommendation on a fairly inexpensive ultrasonic cleaner?

I was the one that made those posts, i also had this problem, and a couple other people. I got my ultra sonic cleaner at bed bath and beyond for i believe 40 bucks maybe? I technically bought it for the wife, dual purposes lol. Its perfect for vape gear and jewelry but it doesnt have long cycles on it, the max is 5 mins i think. My problem came from the stainless positive block, it had tiny little shavings of metal shoved up in there. I think when Hoberto sent it to me i never cleaned them and just threw a build together out of laziness. That and i melted a delrin drip tip cause i had my coils to high, leason learned with that.

Thanks guys for the recommendation on a cleaner - I'm going to buy one this week :)

I was able to make a little progress with my HOBO - The metal taste is very faint now, but it's still there. All I did was soak my entire HOBO, took it all apart, and let all the parts soak in hot soapy water for 12 hours, then thoroughly dried it with towels and compressed air, and made a .4ohm dual coil build on it.

The flavor is almost good. The vapor production = outstanding. I tossed that on my one-piece Cartel mod, and that thing can hit HARD (if you want it to). All I need to do now is get my hands on the cleaner and I'm confident I can get the metallic taste gone. Still very happy I bought this RDA... I bought this HOBO v2 and also a Orchid RTA, and so far the HOBO is looking like the winner. Two different tanks completely - I've always loved the idea of a tank system that has good airflow that I can easily go sub-ohm on. But for whatever reason all the high-end RTA's I've purchased have all had little things that annoy the crap outta me, they either leak easily, can't be tipped on their side, air flow too restrictive, etc. In the Orchid's case (an authentic Orchid), getting the wicking to work properly with no juice control is a big hassle. Which is why I really like the idea behind the HOBO, it may not be a tank atomizer, but the juice well is so damn deep it really is a happy medium between RDA/RTA... I suggest the HOBO to anyone who has tried devices like the Kayfun/Orchid/Russian but were not satisfied, and keep going back to their RDAs - Buy a Hobo, its juice well and great build quality are enough to warrant its price IMO.

Thanks again for the recommendation on the cleaner guys!

No problem! Just glad i could help, wish i could help more to get rid of that metal taste for you. I personally know how annoying that is. The Hobo is basically all i use now exclusively, i did make a purchase for the new Derringer atty by praxis vapors. I couldnt help myself, plus ive been eyeing it for a while since they announced it, im interested to see how it compares to my Hobos. Hopefully i wont hate it lol.
