Nothing's wrong with the syringe fill. Just speculating on something that might be easier in the long run. Also, I'm sure that some don't want to carry syringes around...

pretty sure anything in the side of the cylinder would leak. What's wrong with just filling it with a syringe like in the video? Or for that matter, just sliding the carto down like a liquintor?

Cool, I've got some of those.

to save you folks a lot of speculation and guessing, use the ideal labrotories 20 ml syringes
use a old carto in a drill to punch out the hole. the fill hole plugs are made from the plunger from a 3ml ideal syringe.
in the morning i'll post the correct drill bit size if you would like.
the best price for ideal sysinges is the "anamal" link posted above.

I guess my question is, when I pulled the rubber piece off the plunger, the hole that connects to the plunger stem is alot larger than the cartomizer. Is this hole supposed to be the same size as the cartomizer? It does not look like the one in the video.
Mine looks a little bigger also than a carto. And I have not made mine yet, but it seems like it will help to center the carto when you punch it threw and should seal good with the part that you punched out. Don't know for sure, guess I will find out when I do mine.

You'd have to try to be sure, but I'm betting it will be okay. Everything gets real tight and stable when you stuff it all back inside the syringe piece. I think it will hold together fine, but let us know if it doesn't. You could also try a smaller syringe and see. Like 10 or 12 ml maybe?
The 10ml has a smaller hole in it, so the carto will not fit in the smaller hole where you take the rubber off of the plunger and I think it will be harder to get it centered when you punch it out. At least the 20 ml plunger will go inside the hole to help you get it centered.

I just made my 1st syringe tank, It is working flawlessly! I'm so excited about this!

A word of caution. It is very important to turn the tank upside down when filling. It seems that he slits or punched holes in the carto need to stay above the liquid while filling, or it will leak like a sieve through the end of the carto and make a mess all over the place. :( Don't ask me how I know this, LOL.

It happened to me on my first syringe tank also. The one I made today, I just pulled the top rubber up enough to fill it with a syringe.

I have a grommet question. I was looking at the grommets and up above I think someone posted a link to one that was listed as 5/8" outer diameter and said that was what they were using. What exactly does the 5/8" mean (that sounds dumb, but I mean does it refer to the size of the hole you are putting the grommet in, or the actual size of the grommet)? I measured the syringe barrel and it was ~3/4 inch, as was the diameter of the rubber plunger. Should I look for a 3/4" grommet or will 5/8" fit?

Billb- did you ever post what size drill bit to use for the fill hole? I was using uh... 7/32 I think. It was a little too small, but it also left a lot of plastic dingleberries hanging around the hole. I used the drill bit to clean up the hole a little, and then it was too big. 1/4" ended up being too big with how I was doing it.

Also, do you use any sort of special drill bit? It was pretty hard to drill through the plastic and get a good clean hole.

I use a drill press.
i'll go out to the shop and check the drill bit.
i'll be right back.

(hell, i'll never sell any of these. they are too easy to make. guess i'll have a sale on 50mm cartomizers)
