How do you know when to stop cutting?

If you're using a Dremel, stop at the very first sign of 'break through'. Then use a dental tool or small thin screwdriver to 'open' the very thin layer of metal and remove 'slivers'. Hope that makes sense. It should when ya get there...

Good luck!

all i use is bottom horizontal coil cartomizer.
np leakage problems with mine.

chopper has made over 200 using bottom coil cartomizers with out any problems

Oh yeah, I use bottom coil cartos as well. They work just fine. Sorry, I didn't realize you were wondering about that or I would have posted sooner.

Not quite the answer that person was looking for I don't think. That question was about if anybody had removed the stuffing from those cartos and used them that way. Not what type of carto you're using, but if you've removed the poly and then used it in a tank. I guess he/she'll figure it out when they get a big mess on their hands ;)

Okay, yeah I was confused. I had thought he was asking about pulling the stuffing out, which I had said I didn't think would work. Then I thought maybe he was also asking about using the bottom coil cartos *at all*. So, I'm still not sure if there were two questions or just the one about pulling the stuffing out. Does that make any sense? LOL!

OK, I am dropping my fluffless carto ideas, thanks for the input, guys.

Now, I see no further news on using the bottom coil cartos (Kanger for ex.) after the report they leaked through. Anyone there yet?

You may be right. I thought these two were connected. I guess I was wrong, my bad.

What's a good way to get rid of the black markings on the syringes? I was thinking about rubbing real good with alcohol, but the alcohol might cause hazing on the plastic.

I used a very fine sandpaper to get the lines off..(lightly, no pressure)....then I had a frosted tank...lol

So, I guess my only remaining question is regarding the cutting itself. This may have been covered in previous pages, and if so I do apologize. I'm just afraid I'll cut the carto too deeply. How do you know when to stop cutting?

A bit offtopic, but am I the only one who associated the word "cutting" with emos?

LOL I thought the same thing when I read the:

I was thinking ummm, you should stop before you start? But if you do start, go with the length of it, not across it, it'll let more juice in/out.....then I realized that wouldn't help at all so I didn't say anything....

GIMike, Spazmelda - yes, they were 2 separate questions.

One was about the fluffless carto - idea came from that guy who discovered it can be used for dripping and from some cartos with messed up filling I have rolling about. I like fiddling but was convinced experimenting it would get me hands messy thus asking first.
Second was for using bottom coil cartos in tanks - I asked this first very early in the thread and there was one poster who had problem with his carto leaking through. Now I have positive replies and will proceed trying in the weekend.

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the input, it is most appreciated.

Hugs, a wonderful sunny FRIDAY here :)

I don't know anything about the grommets. But I've had my syringe tank for about a month now, I've used 2 different cartos, in it, and I've only had 1 very slight problem. I think I made my filler hole a little too small cause my 3 ml plunger that plugs the filler hole is starting to deteriorate around the edges. No big deal since they're only $0.29 a piece to replace lol. I'll probably try to round it out a little more as well, as I think my dremmel sanding bit (yes, the dremmel, not me at all) left it slightly oval shaped. But other than that one problem, I've had no leaking issues with the rubber itself. I had one leaking problem through the bottom of the carto once, but it was about shot anyway, so I replaced it and have been using the 2nd one without problems ever since. :)

I bought some grommets, but the sizes I got are too small (5/8" OD, 3/8" ID). The ID is perfect for my go-go cartos, but the OD doesn't quite reach to the sides of the syringe (IDEAL brand). I bought some O-rings to put in the grooves of the grommet (3/4" OD, 9/16"ID), and they make it *almost* big enough. It will hold juice, but it's not really tight enough to make it fit without danger of leaking.

I tried to find 3/4" OD grommets, and I think I had found one source in all my searching, but by that time I had a case of 20 ml syringes, so I abandoned the idea (for now).

Another option would be to find some tubing that WOULD fit the 5/8" OD grommets, and I did some searching for that, but quit looking again after my syringes came.

If you find a good sized grommet that fits the syringe tubes, please post here, because I'd definitely be interested.

WRT the fill hole... I've been using these little earring backs as a fill hole. I use a belt punch to punch a hole in the tank, and then fill the hole with the earring back. I put the hole way up at the top of the tank, IMO, makes filling easier. The hole is very small, so I do have to fill with a syringe, but the hole from the belt punch is very smooth, and uniform.

I have a Chopper tank, and the rubber plunger plug on mine did definitely start to degrade and black rubber bits started falling off. I can replace it easily, and will the next time I go to the tractor supply store, but I have to say that even with the irritation of having to fill mine (smaller hole) with a syringe, I actually prefer it to the larger rubber plunger plug (I also found that with the plug hole on the top of the tank, I can fill by dripping into the cartomizer with this type of plug set up. Ask me if you want to know how, because it's more detailed that I want to spell out if nobody's interested).

Other options for a filler hole would be a small rubber stopper (can find online in various materials- ie silicone or something might degrade less than rubber). Another option would be something called a lyophilization stopper (see the one in red on that page).

Except for that is a 20 mm size. Seems massively huge for a filler plug. Would be more of an end cap than a filler plug since 20 mm = .78 inches.....

Oh, right. Sorry, there is a 13 mm size somewhere that I found.

ETA: Okay, here. look for item #224100-093R. I knew I saw them somewhere!

Still, 13 mm might be a tad large as well.

I would think so. 10 mm is the standard socket/wrech for most bolts on japanese motorcycles. I would think more of a 3 or 4 mm would be better.

If you pop out the mouth piece plug on 510 blank cartridge they work just fine.Just place a little superglue gel in the little air hole in the center of it.I use JB Weld putty just a very tiny amount. No break down of any kind and works perfect.Just drill your hole in your tube to where the plug has to be forced just a little and its good to go.Make sure its the round and not the flat cartridges.
