I drilled mine to 1/16" and love it but it is pretty airy you may want to try 1 size smaller and take your time if you have the SS 1 its pretty tough drilling
I would show you picks but the cap on mine is REALLY hard to get off. I just wrap about 5-6 close together wraps of 30awg around about 2-2 1/2" of 3mm silica folded in half
Here's what I've been doing for my Hornet. It's not terribly elegant, but folded over stand of silica, 4 wraps of 32g kanthal (that's what came along with the atty) should meter about 1.6. I'll wrap the end loop around the center post and tighten it snug to catch the juice coming out of the post holes. Trim the loose end as you see fit.
Buzz Worx Purple Bamboo DT (3 sections), "Violet" Hornet rba, Purple Sparkle VVG. True color of all three, in overcast daylight, I would call Grape. It is very difficult to capture the true colors of any of the Purple REOs. Picture taken with Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (phone).

Still haven't opened up the hole yet but I've been playing with wick-coil set ups. Stainless only of course!
One issue I'm beginning to have with the hornet: The top o ring for attaching the cap is losing integrity and getting flaky from pulling it off and putting it on. Not sure if it's just a bad quality o-ring or what but I don't think this should be happening two weeks in.

my cap was so tight that I just pulled the top oring off and now it goes on and off pretty nicely
So maybe this should be under coil/wick setup but it's Hornet related.
Wanted to share my findings. Went to drugstore and bought a package of round cotton pads. 1.99 for a zillion of them. They are about 3inch round cotton discs. I just cut a 1/4" wide strip, pressed and rolled in my fingers to make nice even wick with consistent thickness thru out. It was then very easy to just thread it thru a premade coil already attached to the Hornet. Then I soaked the cotton wick with some juice so it expanded and soaked up the juice and let stand for about an hour. DO not dry burn with out soaking first or the cotton disinigrates! An hour later gave my mini a few squonks and vaped away! Worked great and it holds the juice very well so you can get more vapes per squonk. Since the pads are premade it was very easy to make the wick. I found it easier than the cotton balls and tearing up the cotton and rolling to consisitent thickness. Just wanted to share!

Have had my Hornet for about a week now and I like it very much. Luckily, I am very local to 310vapers so I went to the shop and picked up a black model. Having read this thread before hand I suspected the cap was gonna give me some trouble so before I gave them my $ I asked the guy behind the counter to take the cap off so I could see the innards. Of course, he struggled mightily to take it off. I had him just leave the cap off completely and once I was back in my car I removed the top O-ring and have been using it that way since. Its still difficult to remove, I think partly because the top is tapered and there's nothing to get any leverage with (unlike the ERA that kinda flanges out at the top). I did lube the remaining O-ring with a bit of vaseline and its helped tremendously. My only concern is the potential to vape petroleum products...
Funny side note. I went into 310 carrying my VVG with Chalice. There were a bunch of folks there trying juice and playing with some of the real high end genesis mods they sell (I wont name them here in respect to Rob, but if you check out their site you can get an idea of what these guys were using). Well I was kinda standing back, just watching everyone. I juiced up my Chalice, took a deep pull form the VVG and let out a substantial cloud. Heads started to turn my way, then the questions started flying. Folks were quite impressed to say the least. I was very surprised that no one had heard about the Reo! Made me feel like I was part of an elite fraternity.
Near the end of my visit one of the owners emerged from the back of the store, pointed and said, 'Hey, thats a Reo Grand." I corrected him, VV baby. I told him how these are my absolute faves, then he asked if he could buy it form me. I have three VVGs and a Grand. The thought crossed my mind for a second. Maybe I could live without one, and get back some of the holiday cash I spent. Then I realized I'd just end up using the money to fund another VVG, and I really hate having to wait for the mailman!
so is this correct. 310 colored hornets are Aluminum, and Indy vapes hornets are steel. Aluminum ones are a pain to remove cap.
If all of this is true wouldn't I want the steel so it also wouldn't conduct heat as quickly and burn my hands?
I want one for a soon to be arriving mini woodvil.

So I just placed an order for my Hornet! So excited! I've been using the Reomizer for the last couple months and it has been just great to me and it really helped me dip my feet in the whole RBA experiment. For those who have used both, are there any significant differences between the Hornet and the Reomizer besides the build? I know that the draw is a lot stiffer compared to the Reomizer... I've gotten pretty accustomed to the Reomizer now, but I think a tighter draw might not be too bad and it seems like a lot of people just drill the air hole a little bigger to get a more airy hit. Besides that does the Hornet seem to hit better and does it seem to stand up against leaking better as well? JCOkie definitely gave me a great explanation but I wanted to get some more opinions.

I've been using my ERA, Hornet, A7 the most so Reomizer isn't seeing as much use. Reomize is way too airy for me. I got some non-toxic JB Weld and will be plugging the cap hole and then drilling it out smaller. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.
The A7 feeds air from holes in bottom threaded post similar to pre-made attys. The draw on it is too airy for me, too. I plug one of the holes with the point of toothpick.
For me, the Hornet and ERA are perfect draw as they come and very similar to each other.

FYI about tight fitting caps on Hornets; SS and anodized. I have both and I think the SS is even tighter fitting than anodized. For now I've found a quick fix..... remove top o-ring and leave off and put some lubricant on bottom o-ring and base where it fits on. Try to keep lubricant from inside Hornet. I used olive oil. I've ordered food grade silicone. Others have used vaseline but be aware that vaseline does break down rubber over time. The o-rings are rubber.
Soaking Hornet in ice water for an hour helps getting cap off.

Yes air hole goes right in front of coil and the only time they leak out the air hole is when you have them flooded

thanks but then how do you squonq to it? Do you hold it up straight or lilted like you vape and then squonke - given that the feeding hole is from both sides of the posts. Any tutorial please ? I'm having a hard time to set it correctly and not leak, gurgle etc. Thanks

I hold it straight up when squonking juice only comes out of the center post and I try and set it up so my air hole points to the ceiling when vaping. In the beginning it might help to pull your drip tip off to see if your wick is dry and it takes some practice when your juice bottle is full it only takes a slight push to juice your wick and a harder push when your bottle gets low. When you take your drip tip off if you can see any shinyness to your wick its fine don't squonk it

What he said! As the bottle gets low, I find I have to push the bottle with all my might and sometimes hold it for a couple of seconds. Anything lower than 1/4 full is this way and when it gets this way, I refill it.
