The thing you want to weigh is the acid you add. You check the density of the acid solution by weighing a carefully measured volume once. If you start out doing the previous steps by volume, using decent glassware, pipettes, then to get the added acid you tare out the graduated cylinder, do the titration and get the amount of added acid from the weight at the titration point. I'd have to review the first steps to see where we can improve the precision of the baseline "3 ml volume". No?

I mean the greatest slop seems to lie in the reading of the final volume on the cylinder. The previous volume measurements can be done with a good pipette, but the reading of the final level is the eyeball on a crude cylinder scale.

That's why we are trying to come up with a way to avoid the grad cyl entirely. Its simply not needed if you use accurate syringes, and keep tabs on volumes. I see now where you are coming from with the mass thing. Its not a bad idea! Try it! :)

Pretty sure you want to try for the density of all 3 liquids, not just the acid, so the 1 & 2 ml parts are accurate, too, but I could be wrong.

100 gram 0.01g resolution scales are pretty cheap, and there is a nice little 30g 0.001 resolution one, on ebay. They are used for jewelry apparently.

 A question or two...

I have a bottle of Lot 256, but it is labeled as 48mg PG. Looking at the table above, I see that the lot 256 sample tested was labeled as 100mg PG. Other than the obvious concern of the validity of BE's quality control of the product dilution and the labeling of the product, have any samples of the PG based 48mg dilution been submitted for testing yet? Are any particular production or bottling dates being viewed as suspect? With other products that have been recalled, lots and dates are usually linked. (usually due to some breakdown in protocol or procedure)

Thanks for providing your expertise in this issue to the ECF community Kurt! :matrix:

I have a LOT of samples coming soon, I think. Don't recall the details of PG or VG, but that's why I am having people label the bottles as I am asking.

The CAS#, again, is not relevant. It simply means "nicotine". Some BE bottles may not have lot#s. Editing that repost of levels again to include dates I have right now. Yes, that is important too, thanks, Kin.

Not to change the subject, but it seems that concerned vendors are starting to send out e-mails to their customers and some of their conversation goes to juice vendors with only a web site and a kitchen table, basically having no quality controls, no chemistry knowledge, and etc. They also mention nic base deviations. I will not be posting the e-mails here, surely others on ECF are getting them.

and lotions apparently

Got my MXT100 MAX:100g d=e=0.01g for about $32 shipped from lotioncrafters but it seems they only have the 500g capacity one now. About $8 more on Amazon - Amazon.com: My Weigh MXT-100 Digital Mini Pocket Scale - SCMXT100: Office Products

wow, there are a bunch for under $20... no idea if they meet the .01g claimed accuracy

I did. Doesn't solve the situation, but at least I will have them in the future.

Can those that just received confirmation I got your sample(s) in this latest round please PM me? :)

Time to finally go to bed and sleep till I'm through, head back into it tomorrow. Heartfelt thanks to all. One of the most amazing weeks of my life, and I owe it all to you. Peace and love. Good night.

I ordered one of the small jewelry scales, to try fernand's suggestion. Very low cost, dw will use it if I don't.
That ought to reduce errors in the eyeball part of measurements.

Which model? Make sure you have a calibration weight and learn the limits and how to squeeze out the accuracy they are capable of. These are simple devices that measure distortion of a load cell, then linearize the measurement with an on-board microprocessor. Everything affects them, say even how long the sample is on the platform, and exactly on which spot. With a $30 instrument, it's a running battle to get precise readings, but it's eminently doable. The one I have drives me nuts with it's non-adjustable time-out. I have to keep doing stuff on it with my left hand while prepping samples with right so it doesn't turn off to save batteries ;-)

Big thanks, Kurt!
