I was forced to quit smoking due to surgery 1 year ago, i tried nicotine products but they didnt work for me, i asked my doctor if i could vape, he said yes if i dont vape alot and use low mg nicotine. So i walked in a vape shop and they sold me ego aio, loved that thing :)
One day perhaps, the medical society, pharmaceutical industry, maybe friends and relatives will look back and think "hey, we really didn't have a fix or a way out for these smokers, but they fixed themselves - together".

2012. I was at my usual convenience store to buy a pack of cigarettes when I noticed an N-Joy disposable e-cigarette display on the checkout counter. It was cheap, so I thought, why not, I'll try it out. It wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad either. It prompted me to do some research on e-cigarettes and I found ECF.

My first starter setup was a Smokeless Image Volt. I thought my vape should look like a cigarette -- beginner's mistake. I was able to stop smoking within a week's time with those, but I was frustrated with the cigalike"s short battery life and inadequate juice capacity. Did more research. I decided my vape didn't need to look like a cigarette; I just wanted the best vape available regardless of size or shape.

About a month after beginning to vape, I purchased two mechanical mods topped with cartotanks. Gamechangers! A month after that I got my first Provari. Another game changer! Went on over time experimenting with various regulated mods and juice attachments, including RBA's. Eventually my style changed from MTL to DTL and to sub-ohm vaping.

Currently using a JAC Vapour series B DNA75 with original Uwell Crown clearomizer.

I’d read about the concept and bought the only device available at the time. A horrible little cigalike called a cloud9
Me too! It was bad batt life but I liked the concept. I didn't really get into vaping until a few yrs after when 808's came out and I quit smoking altogether.

Never managed to find an 808 for sale in my area. I just had to keep banging away trying to get the cloud9 to function. All kinds of stupid tricks with teabags and whatnot. When egos finally came out they were AMAZING!

I was smoking about fifty cigs a day, and my wife was constantly pleading with me to try an quit, I had been smoking for about 37 years at that time...she suggested vaping. A few of her peers at her office had made the transition, and she was convinced it may help me. So I agreed to let on of her peers e-mail me with suggested setups and where to get them.

    Months went by...

One day on a lark, I was re-reading that e-mail and looked up directions to the Volcano store that was suggested, I drove the 35 minutes to the store and by chance the owner was in that day, we had a good two hour conversation, of which time I went outside for a couple smoke breaks. I tried all kinds of flavors and settled on a cappuccino and an RY4, and left the store with two Inferno (Ego-type) batteries and three T3S clearo's...

Something clicked when I was testing out stuff in the store, I realized this might actually work. The words spoken by the owner have stuck in my head to this day...don't think about this as quitting, your just choosing to get your nicotine another way.

two days later in the morning with my coffee, I smoked my very last cigarette, that was 5-1/2 years ago. I didn't quit anything, I just chose a new path for my life. Back then I hacked and wheezed climbing a single flight of stairs. Now I can ride a bicycle thirty miles riding hard and fast...yeah, vaping. Saved my life...

Early in 2013, I was heading to a company meeting that was going to have me for several days in a facility where you'd have to walk a mile to get outside for a smoke... I grabbed a couple disposable e-cigs as a way to get a puff in during one of those "5 minute breaks" they give when they've packed the agenda too tight.
They weren't great, but were good enough to make me wonder whether better gear would actually be enjoyable - so I ordered some Joyetech stuff - blue-tip batteries and cartos.
After a couple weeks, I realized that I PREFERRED vaping to smoking, and chucked the cigs.
Never went back, never wanted to, never had cravings.
I bought a TON of them - long ones, recharger-boxes, little teensy clearos.
    510kit3.jpg

Then I got Ego batteries. Variable voltage ones. Got Protanks and such for those.
Then I got a Provari. And another Provari. And built a big fancy carto-tank collection.
    ProVari-brothers-2.JPG

There's a trend here - I like to get a bunch of stuff when I like it, lol.

I did Russians and Kayfuns, but didn't REALLY get into building until...squonkers!
Got a Reo. Then a Woodville. And another.
    Reo_Family1.JPG

Initially, I collected "tight draw" atties. Then I moved to more airflow, and that's where I am now.
I have more than 30 squonkers, and more BF RDA's than that.

    all-my-squonkers-10-2017.jpg

It is definitely a hobby, but I've slowed down acquisitions - still will lust after new mods or bottomfed rda's, but only when there's pretty good evidence it will fit my vaping style.

My neighbor was vaping Logics trying to quit smoking. I had been thinking about quiting…was tired of stinking, being short of breath, the expense ($5 /pack/day) but mostly the fear of lung cancer and early death.

So I went to the Kwick Shop and got a Logic, 18mg. I knew nothing about vaping at that time and this thing wasn't great but it was shaped like a cigarette and it satisfied my hand to mouth need and there was enough nic to take care of the addiction. I quit cold turkey.

That went on for a few months until I wanted something better and being a dedicated online shopper I googled…and googled…and discovered ECF and a whole other world of vape devices. An Eleaf 20W was my first "real" mod. Wow what a difference from the Logic! And BTW it still runs!

Then came the summer of 2016 and the FDA scare. I wanted some solid, dependable mods that were pen shaped…I wasn't and still am not a fan of box mods. That was when I discovered Provari in posts by @WillyZee, @ENAUD and @Baditude …Thanks guys :). Provape had their first sale and I bought a mini Pink Ribbon!

That was it…love at first sight! After that I bought many more during their closing down sales. They were then and still are my 24/7 devices with a few exceptions…some very tiny AIO mods for stealth vaping. My crowning glory was the Ti I bought from Bill, the Provari repair guy who custom built it for me.

We stopped at a Harley dealer looking at the bikes then saw 2 people smoking out of silver tubes. I asked what they were doing, they explained this is vaping...the next day we had 2 ego/clearo kits with 555 24nic juice and the rest is history. Was revamping then rebuilding the clearo's within the first month, protanks in 3 months after then started DIY after 2 years. Been riding the wave in vape nirvana for the last 3+ years having a top notch vape experience. Been vaping STM RBA rayon clapton builds for those last 3+ years.

So how did you exactly start vaping? A friend, maybe walked into a vape shop? And how did you choose your vaping style(ie, mtl, dtl, nic juice) and devise? Personally , my sister tried vaping (cig a like) and was successful, and although i bought one, wasnt very successful. about 6 months later was doing a job and the customers were vapors, but they were using mech mods & cartos , which really appealed to me!! I then bought a similiar set up and never smoked again. All my purchases were online, as there were no vape shops locally, then found ecf and my vape journey really begun!! Not to many choices back then, as everyone did mtl and hi nic juices. After joining ecf, I was drawn to rebuilding, specifically genesis attys and have been rebuilding ever since...over 7 years smoke free!!

Doc Bauer said, "I'm going to do my best to not have to cut your right leg off at the knee."

After I woke from fainting, I swore that if I somehow got lucky, I was DONE smoking. With a bit of luck, and some brilliant work by the aforementioned doc, my body remains intact. He did say (when it was all done), "If you ever put another cigarette to your lips, I'll almost certainly be taking that leg off one day."

Blu disposables for a few weeks, V2 Cigs for a few months, followed by some GoGo's (loved 'em!), then to Provari at about six months. That last move was the one that told me (for certain) that I could do this forever.

"A couple" more mods (cough) since then, of course.

Seven years (in just about two weeks) later, my arteries are clear & clean. They even released me from follow-up care a little more than 5 years ago. Two years of vaping was all it took.

    Stick it, Gottlieb. o_O

I posted this Feb ’18, about 10 months after quitting cigs, on the Game Changer thread. This is pretty much the same thing & story, and I didn’t want to retype it all so:

Started smoking circa 1972, and don't know how many times I quit. I got this in 2011 (so why does the package look like it came from the 60's?), and didn't stick with it long, went back to smoking:
    upload_2018-2-25_16-14-22-png.725419

Then a few years later I confiscated this contraband from my young teenager (unauthorized purchase with my $), and I tried it & realized it was far better than the Njoy. But I only played with it a while, and never quit smoking. So it didn't exactly change the game yet, but the seed was sown....
    upload_2018-2-25_16-16-14-png.725421

March 2017, I decided to quit 4/1, and didn't really think about vaping, until just before the day came. I was kind of nervous about being able to make it, so I thought I'd get a tank & some juice to use as a crutch. I went and bought a Nautilus 2 after researching to see what the best tank for me would be. Put it on the MVP, and it worked great - got me thru that first few weeks (with no cheating), so that was a game changer. And I realized I'd continue vaping, so I ordered the Zelos kit with another N2 tank.
    upload_2018-2-25_16-21-59-png.725423

But I found I really didn't like the juice I was getting, and PG wasn't really agreeing with me. I also I found I really like a fresh coil, and tired of buying them. So at the same time, I ordered my Kayfun Mini V3 and DIY supplies.
Together, they changed the game for me, because I realized on a good rta, with great juice, I could do this and never go back to smokes.
    upload_2018-2-25_16-26-5-png.725425

I really never thought I'd vape more than just to get thru quitting initially, but hey - as you all know, it's exponentially safer, I enjoy vaping and the hobby aspect of it. I always loved smoking, but hated being a smoker. So vaping, whether I ever quit or not, is pretty awesome. I'd love not to have a habit of any kind, but this ain't so bad!

Edit/update: Upgraded the KM3 to SJMY Doggystyles, and now use mostly on these. And now I do NETs, unflavored, and Hangsens. Once I found the Doggies, I've only tried one other tank, and it failed, so I'm pretty settled. Tried a cig at 3 months, 6 months, one year. No chance of going back - you can just taste and feel the poison after a while. I like vaping, and still believe it makes quitting smoking so easy, it's like cheating.

Had wasted about 100 bucks getting properly setup with a cigalike back around 2013. Extra batt, extra carts and all, meant to give it a serious go. Total waste of course!
Felt like a real smuck cuz my wife had quit 5 years prior without any sort of crutch. Just like flipping a switch, one second a smoker the next she was smoke free. Said she simply never thought about them again. Talk about strong willed!!

Anyway started seeing folks with more modern equipment around work and noticed how much more productive the gear was. Still was hesitant to waste more money on another failed attempt.

Being a truck driver I did have the advantage of buying my smokes in cheaper states a couple cartons at a time. But still they kept getting more and more expensive.

Flash forward to June 2015. One day at a c-store in Louisiana I finally snapped over the cost. Standing in line with 90 bucks in hand ready to turn it into 2 cartons worth of Ash. No, no more! I turned away and decided to take that $90 to a new vape shop that opened a block from home. Wasn't that simple.

Walked into that new shop day after getting home. Felt sooooo outta place. Like I'd stepped into a woman's hair salon or something. Also felt my wallet begin to shudder the moment I walked thru the door. Looked around totally clueless about all the shiney gizmos I was seeing and the huge tasting bar. Finally the little girl at the counter squeaked out something about how can I help you? I mumbled something about I don't know, I feel like I've wandered into some sort of boutique or sumthin. She squeaks back, yeeeess! I mumbled something like, this ain't fer me, as I made a bee-line for the door!

I got home, went online and searched ''Yelp" for vape shop reviews. Being in a major metro area there were dozens. Finally spotted one only a couple miles away whose store front pic showed one of those "leg lamps from that Christmas movie" in the window. THAT'S my vape shop!!!

Was there to watch the owner unlock the door next morning. Great guy focused on converting smokers. Unflappable patience. I think he went thru every premium kit in the display, tearing them down and explaining them to me. Finally he said he could give me a deal on a little woodgrain Joyetech eGrip AIO(my Avatar). I was sold the second I saw it. He showed me how to prime the coils and loaded it with my chosen tobacco flavor after he mixed it up.
First puff I knew it.... Vaping is for real.... This little gem will do the job!

So I got home with my new toy and immediately went online looking for reviews of it. Think ECF was the first place I landed. Was astonished to learn there were better cross compatible coils for it. Chose my first backup based on that fact. There were folks actually rebuilding these tiny coils!?!:w00t: This thing actually had a tiny RBA base available! OMG,I can tinker with it!!!.
Instantly dove head first down the rabbit hole.

Took me about 10 days to quit the nasties... First time. Lasted 3 months. Went dual use for about 18 months..... Second quit..2 months... To dual. I don't care... Don't need suggestions or encouragement. I'm a smoker. I rarely smoke, been over a week since my last. I won't use words like urge or craving. They feel like excuses to me. When I decide I want one I twist one up and smoke it. Occasionally buy a 2 pack of Swisher Sweet Cigarillos for 99¢. Big deal. Only reason I've been without for a week or so is that I'm outta papers and don't feel like getting outta the house to go get more. My vape is plenty adequate.

The MVP with a Davide tank was what finally got me to off smokes. It was the first setup which satisfied me enough where I did not need those few smokes at certain times; morning coffee, after meals, and before bed. I guess that (MVP) was my game changing device as well. Was my only device for about a year in a half.

    Similar story to @DPLongo22 ;)

Broke my ankle in 3 places, and was told I had to stop smoking for the repair surgery, and to help the bones heal. A smoker would need an extra month in a cast.

I'd been given a mtl vape pen previously as a gift - so I used that and got through the first two weeks relatively easy, considering ;)

A month later I upgraded to a mod kit, and found I had actually quit smoking - I much preferred vaping instead.

3 months after the accident, I was walking normally (no crutches or cast) and my surgeon was blown away by my healing.

I have a feeling that joytec wasn't blue or pink..
