How do I get an effect out of this?

I was given a Cloud 9 e-cigarette a couple months ago with the hope that it would prevent me from smoking. I'd done a lot of reading online, and from the fervent loyalty of the e-cigarette community, it seemed as though this would be the solution which would finally prevent me from wanting to light tobacco on fire.

I still haven't been able to give up the Newports (three-quarters of a pack per day) in that time because when I use the e-cigarette exclusively, I feel precisely the same way that I do when I try to quit cold turkey (headache, loss of focus, ...... off at everything). Then when I smoke an actual cigarette after such a period, I feel precisely the same "buzz" and relief that comes from smoking after a quit attempt.

There is allegedly nicotine in this liquid. I started with medium strength, then tried liquids advertised as "high" and then "very high" strength. There is no difference. I vaporize as often and for as long as I would smoke. I've tried doing it more, I've tried holding in the vapor, and it doesn't help. Is there something besides nicotine in regular cigarettes that I'm also addicted to? I wouldn't put it past the tobacco companies, to be honest...

Any help that you could provide would be much appreciated. I was so excited when I learned about e-cigarettes, and I really want this to work out.

"Is there something other than nicotine in regular cigarettes that I'm also addicted to?"

Uhhhh.... yeah.... like 4,000 ingredients in regular cigarettes! LOL Seriously though, vaping will not give you the same exact sensations that smoking does because you're inhaling a vaporized liquid instead of burning tobacco plus all the other junk in cigarettes and then inhaling smoke.

I think a lot of people expect to start vaping and immediately put down the real cigarettes (analogs) for good. For some people it does work that way but for others it doesn't. I started vaping with a crappy e-cig (PV), one that looks like a real cigarette, at the beginning of this month and I'm still not able to completely put down the analogs yet and I know that's because of the type of e-cig it is. I learned that after doing a ton of reading and research here on the forum. In the next few days, I'll be ordering myself an eGo and I'm sure I'll finally stop the nasty habit of smoking when I get used to using it.

I suggest going through the ECF library here on the forum and watching MistressNomad's videos for people just starting out with vaping. You'll find a lot of information between the two.

I am a GUY from L.A. not girl. lol
There are other chemicals at work(MAOIs in particular), but what works for alot of people(myself included) was starting off w/ a 36mg juice. "High" could mean 18mg. Being that there are over 4000 chemicals in cigs, and little is known about most of them, you might not get the "Same" effect from e-cigs. But for alot of people, starting at a 36mg juice helps alot. There is alot of info in the DIY juice forum about this(MAOIs eyc), it would be worth a look.

I never expected to get exactly the same effect, but I also never expected to feel exactly the same as when I try to quit cold turkey. Even a nicotine patch works better than this does.

I will take a look at those links. I am unable to use MAOIs due to my anti-depressants and other medications, but hopefully something there will be helpful nonetheless.

Thank you for the surprisingly quick answers. =)

I had the same problem when I started vaping in May. I started on a Blu and ordered the 'light' flavored cartridges. It was enough to convince me that I needed to do more research. A couple of guys I know had 510's that they let me try a couple of times.....wow, what a difference from the Blu. I took my Blu on vacation in June, one week and was down to 4 packs a week. Not bad for a PAD smoker. After getting back one of the guys let my try his 510 again. I was sold! I didn't do any more research, just went to the mall and purchased from the guy at the kiosk. I admit, I way overpaid, over $200 for a pcc, 2 batteries, 2 atty's and 2 10ml bottles of liquid. By the end of July I was down to 5-6 smokes a day. But always felt I 'had' to go buy more (you know the feeling of you can't let yourself run out?) So I decided that the only way I was going to be able to completely get off the smokes was to just stop. I told my boyfriend that August 1 was the date, no more buying smokes, only vaping. By August 15 we each had only purchased 1 additional pack. Now we are smoke free. Not to say we have not been tempted but I did notice a couple people who were smoking on Saturday and how it didn't smell good. My peanut butter cookie vape from Ms. T's was much more satisfing! BTW we vape 24mg liquid but are starting to cut down with our new orders.

Your symtoms are probably that the nic mg is not high enough. Try some that is higher, you can alway cut it back if it is too strong. Definately go through the reading at the top of the New Members forum. All of the information is helpful!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I'm not positive which set was purchased. I think it was the three-piece; there are two batteries, an atomizer, and it came with several "...." ends containing the liquid-holding bits that look like little gauze baskets.

The instructions say to inhale from it for no more than 10 seconds at a time (until the end blinks), so that's how long I inhale from it. It does produce a healthy amount of vapor, and when that becomes minimal is when I change or refill the cartridge.

I'm not sure what "throat hit" means, but I do use it in about the same way as a cigarette (suck first into the mouth as though through a straw, although increased to 5-10 seconds in the case of the e-cig, then inhale deeply and exhale). I've tried holding the vapor in my lungs for longer than I would with smoke (since holding smoke in makes me sick), but that does not seem to make a difference.

I just got back from watching the videos, and that seems to be the way I've been doing it. I would love to see any other links/FAQs which you think may enlighten me. I will be sure to take a look at the stickies as well.

I had this same effect when I was using those pre-filled carts that come with the e-cig I purchased. Seemed like no nic whatsoever. I'll not add to all the excellent comments above, however, you didn't mention if you purchased juice or are just using "old" pre-filled carts. I understand that nicotine can degrade over time with heat, etc. Did you get fresh juice? Just 1 of many possibilities.

EDIT: you posted while I was typing... seems you are refilling the carts. Hmmmm....... IDK then.

I started out with a Volcano, a cheap ecig that looks like an analog.
It sucked. I gave up on vaping in just a few days.

Then a few months later, I decided to give it a go again. The "idea" of the ecig still lurked in my mind.
So, I put some more money out and bought a 801 mod with a LR atomizer. MY GOD I LOVE IT! The throat hit was there and I was blowing clouds of vapor so thick I couldn't see through them.
I litterer vape myself silly.

High voltage mods or low resistance atomizers is where it's at.

Hmm, it sounds like I may be back to square one (researching the best model of e-cigarette for me). First I will get another container of liquid at the highest nicotine dose I can find. If that doesn't work, I will probably try a Joye 510 since that seems to receive the widest range of accolades.

Thanks again for restoring my hope that it's possible to kick the plant-matter-ignition habit.

K... Watch it tho, your phrase "the highest nicotine dose I can find." is a bit scary. Some are sold to be cut/mixed. DON'T over do it either. Many people use 18 - 24 mg/ml to start with, some even 36 but I think that is a bit high. You need to decide for yourself, this is not medical advice on my part. Get some cut-juice and you can always reduce it.

Be careful though.

My guess is your main issue is that teh model you have is a super mini. You wont get anywhere NEAR the nic your used to from your newports from that model. If you cant afford another model such as a 510 or kr808, You can give refilling it with 36mg liquid. That might help, but youll be refilling a LOT.
Holding the vapor in your lungs wont help..The nic is absorbed immediatly upon inhale.

First and foremost, before you do that, search these forums for "Nicotine Overdose". The effects can be unpleasant. You likely won't kill yourself (unless you actually do buy 100/mg and vape that) but it will hamper your success rate.

I ordered 36/mg from Tasty Vapor. I vaped 24/mg last time and eventually went back to analogs so I feel okay with the step up for now. No matter what strength you get or make, it's important to know the warning signs so you can dial yourself in and get a pleasant vape.

If you are truly inhaling for 5-10 seconds and still don't get any effect, I am guessing there is something severely wrong with your e-cig. I've been smoking a pack a day or more for about 5 years, and my 510 gives me more of that light headed feeling I used to get from cigarettes than real cigarettes have for years.

I know nothing about Cloud 9, but from my short experience of two weeks vaping, I know that throat hits are the best when the battery has just been recharged. Throat hits didn't last very long when I was using the cheap little Volcano battery, because the battery would need recharging every 20 minutes or so (the first 10 minutes were the best). The Smokeless Delite battery lasted longer (started at 2 hours, then 1 hour, now down to about 1/2 hour) and throat hits were better than the Volcano, but I'm sure the battery is more powerful (but still pretty lame compared to the better batteries available).

The best I've used so far are the Volcano Magma passthroughs, since the battery power never decreases...there is no battery; they're powered by the USB ports on my computers or by the cigarette lighter USB adapter in my car. I get throat hits almost every time with the passthroughs.

But I'm really looking forward to receiving the two eGo 1000mah batteries I ordered last night. I have a feeling I'll like the eGo the best of all -- and will probably then want to order some eGo passthroughs (which I didn't know existed last night).

Dude, you need to reply to this so we know you didn't go off and buy 100mg nic juice and try to vape it (we assume you didn't but we want to check.....)
