How does one explain vaping to non-smokers?

I tell people that I am getting my nic hit but without all the extra junk that are in stinkies. Plus I no longer smell like an ashtray (they all agree on that one) and what I puff smells nice (they agree on that too)

In the end they end up agreeing with me and while they do not 100% understand it they can see that in some way it is better then stinkies.

Now those are my friends.....people who I don't know and who just hate smokers no matter what will just never understand

It is not smoking. Tell your friends and anyone who ask's. It's not smoking.
The whole point of vaping and what makes it really safe to the point it doesn't
mater is the fact that it is not smoking.
So keep on not smoking and pass the word.

I explained a while ago to my 8 yo, that I stopped smoking and he clearly understood the relative lower danger in vapor and he still do. Now with many grownups, I cannot get the idea through even if I tried the with a hammer... I suppose that is due to the decade of mind conditioning regarding smoking and the similarity of the vapor that we blow with smoke. Others really got it, mostly on their own. I was in a waiting line the other day and the security guy told the smoker behind me that he cannot smoke in here. I put my gear in my pocket, and then he said "It's different for him (me), he got one these things...", and the smoker behind me responding "I should get one of these things then!". I did not even say a word...

I suppose it may be more effective to stimulate questions, rather than pushing the science behind vaping. How many people do you think know about PG or VG? Propylen Glycol may sound pretty scary... Vegetable Glycol sounds almost like Vegetable Oil and Nicotine is been demonized for so long that it makes it even worse... If I say "It's not smoking, it's medicine..." then I may trigger curiosity and start from there depending on the response, focusing on the results, precise analogies such as inhalers that also contain PG.

HAHAHAH I am cracking up here. I do not build yet (pretty sure I will blow up the house) but I can totally see my GF say that to me one day lolll

I can't remember what show it came from, but I still get more of the "felating a robot" comments than actual questions. Occasionally someone will come to me that is actually curious because they want to stop smoking and those are the only people I even talk to about it anymore.
