How is vaping cheaper?

I also like to think of the other "green" factor when it comes to my vaping. There is substatially less waste, no cigarette butts, no ash trays, no releasing thousands of pollutants into the air etc. Even if I didn't refill my cartos, it would be a lot less garbage than the 20+ cigarettes I smoked daily.

I'm also fairly new and the start-up was mind-boggling.

I pace myself by the week and try to catch the sales.

I went through hell trying to learn how to refill to save a little on cartos but, it is possible to spend $30-$40/wk on supplies and if you would buy a carton of analogs, with tax, you'd spend a tad more to a ton more, depending where you live. Cartons of analogs are close to $50 and up in LA w/ 8 packs. If you were smoking more than a pack/day a carton wouldn't last you a week.

If you click here V4L Sig Generator it brings up a page where you can use their calculator and make your own sig, like you have, which initially shows when you break even from the start up costs, then keeps track of how much you save. You can also set it back a month to see where you'll be in month on the test page and keep it accurate in your sig.

If you add your 1st e-juice stocking order to the start up number, it will take a little longer to break even but, depending on how much you smoked and the cost of analogs where you live, you should eventually see a savings.

Mine's a little messed up but, it also lets you redo it anytime you need to.

It took close to month for me to see it 'break even', about as long as it took me to get the refilling down (it's a trade off - refill or empty ashtrays and clean up filthy ashes) and decide on the juice I could vape regularly. The latter will help you not buy everything in sight & start stocking. I'm at that point and getting it under control.

There's no way to put a monetary price on getting 4000 chemicals out of your system but, you might also want to go through your closet and add in all the clothes with burn holes, add in all the sprays and stuff to hide the smell of smoke, burns in carpeting and car seats, etc., and you should feel better about the start up cost fairly fast.

It is hard to see in the first week. Try working with your sig thing- adjust it as needed - it helped me alot. I was cranky the first week too. When you find the flav you like and get used to it all and can only focus on vaping, that will also help you feel better.

:toast:

Thanks for the great response! :D good to know i'm not the only one who felt that way.

Unfortunately, I suspect if we track the production backward through the incredible nastiness that is semiconductor manufacture, we'll discover the same logical fallacy that hybrid cars suffer from.

Quoted for Truth. On that note, who needs hybrids anyways. With a few modifications most internal combustion engines can meet or exceed the mileage gotten from hybrids and you don't have do drive them like a grandma. I get about 45 - 50 mpg from my 2001 inline 4-cylinder 1.7L Honda Civic DX Sedan with an MTX. It was more like a 40 - 45 mpg when it had an ATX.

I digress.

I personally am saving a ton of money vaping. Yes at first my expenses were on par with my cigarette habit. However, just as others have said, once past the hardware setup point and personal preferences are determined the difference becomes very noticable.

did this guy really take a jab at my education? wtf is wrong with this world?

Bottom line..yes it is a turn off to a new person because of the start up costs!

I spent a fortune in the beginning because I wanted to try everything. Now, eight months later, I spend an average of $100 per month, and that includes accessories like batteries/passthru's/pcc's/other. I figure that I have enough supplies on hand now to last a year if I never bought another thing. (As if that's gonna happen!)

Smoking in Florida at the rate I was puffing away was costing $300 per month - and they've raised the taxes since I quit. That means I'm saving at least $200 per month. To me, that's a substantial amount of money.

I'd say that the average person who vapes with V4L, assuming 3 ml per day, will probably spend:

3 bottles of 30ml juice @ $12.50 = $37.50
3 boxes of cartos @ $10 = $30.00
1 battery = $16.50

Because they have 20% off sales at least once a month, knock that off the total, add shipping @ $6.95, and you're still under $75 per month. A single pack of cigarettes costs anywhere from $3.50 to $11 per pack, depending upon where you live in the US.

Many people vape less than 3ml per day and some cartos last for many refills, so they won't need all of the above every month. Vaping is definitely cheaper.

I know that the upfront costs can be a bit scary, but once you settle into a vaping routine, your ongoing costs should drop considerably. (And don't forget the health benefits. This is the first time in years that a winter went by and I didn't get bronchitis.)

yes it can be expensive when starting out, but it is so worth the extra dollars... i never thought that i would be able to quit the nasty cigs... but i did with the help of my e cig and i keep telling myself that i'm worth every penny that i spent, this is saving my health and my life..

I have to remind myself of that sometimes. I remember how many times I tried to quit and how much I paid trying to quit over the course of nearly four decades. (The cold laser therapy alone was $175 per treatment!) None of it worked and it was demoralizing. I was getting pretty desperate. My first order with V4L was the UU kit plus extra cartos and juice and it cost somewhere around $150. I haven't smoked since.

I'd call that a real bargain.

shipping is also a tad expensive. Let's say you just want a pack of carts, $7 added to that order vs going to the store and spending $8.

I'm really trying to quit 'cigarettes', but I easily get tired of a flavor. Like WowBOy, it was ok at first, but now it's terrible to me. SO i'm waiting on a new order to get to me+ $14 shipping.

Plus they never refunded me on shipping when I asked to combine orders. You ever order something and then want something else too? Yeah, it happens.

PLUS the routine of boiling, cleaning, dripping, messes..juice leaking in your mouth(nasty)..yeah..

For some period of time, it was established by annecdote that a pack a day average smoker was knocking down 2-2.5ml of juice average/day.

At present, "Wow Juice" at 30ml is priced around $0.42/ml

Juice cost is $1.04/day nominally

Blank cartomizers are currenly $1.79ea. Nominally a pack of blanks should be lasting at least a month. $0.30/day

A battery is typically good for around 120 days. 17.50 / 120 = $0.14/day

A charger is typically pretty well-lived. Probably a good year on the AC charger or more. Call it six months just for fun.

13.50 / 180 = $0.075 / day

That's all you really need, but let's go ahead and toss another battery in there since it's prudent.

$1.70 /day < $8.00 /day, DELTA: $6.30/day.

Any inability to control your spending habits needs to be addressed outside of this series of calculation.

As far as: "the average smoker is not used to spending larger amounts on their habit in one sitting" - I don't know, I see a lot of carton sales at Ye Ol' Wallyshire.

Regardless, I blame our educational system for any inability to calculate Return On Investment, Opportunity Cost, Longterm Cost of Operation, and Catastrophic Losses

And this is why I love you Addy, you are so intelligent. You will make a great mom!

You could try swapping in the swap thread. That will help you get rid of flavors you are tired of in exchange for different ones. Send your swap via first class mail for cheaper shipping rates.

I think it really depends on how you see vaping. I don't see it as a hobby but something that keeps me from going back to analogs and nicotine. I don't go in for new models/mods all the time. I have spent a little more than I would have liked, trying new flavors but have settled on two...which is one more than the choice I had while smoking.

I've been vaping 5 weeks today and made back my initial investment (plus the money spent on the afore mentioned flavors) already. Utilizing a good sale and a coupon code, I have now stocked up on some extra batts, blank cool carts, and juice for the next six months. The cost for those six months is still less than one month of analogs.

Add in the health benefits, I'd say my ROI is more than I ever could have expected.

I hope your experience gets better.

I have to agree with you JustKryssi, no matter the cost of vaping the health benifits outweigh the cost of analogs any day!

I think 'cheap' and 'saving' are relative terms. I am saving my life and it's worth every penny I spend to do it.

That being said, I have spent twice as much on vaping gear and supplies as I woulda' on burning butts. However, I am stocked up enough to last until next year. So it's about a wash for now.

I have made vaping a 'hobby' to justify the habitual rituals to maintain and organize everything.
