Don't worry yourself too much about it. It took me months. For some folks it just takes finding that perfect setup to get them off of the last few. Well it did for me at least.

Broodwich & Baditude have lots of great advice!

My story is one of starting out with no intentions to quitting...

Curiosity & a desire to save money were the motivators.

After about 5 days or so, I was probably 80% vaping, which got me to thinking there was some modest potential to ultimately stopping.

I was seriously trying to avoid setting any goals, or expectations.

At that point I decided to make a conscious decision each time I lit a cigarette that it was one that I really wanted. Otherwise, I would change my hand's trajectory and grab the vape.

A few days later I was down to probably 3-5 butts a day.

That led to the realization that fully quitting was actually possible. Still no goals other than to reduce.

Couple more days, and I hit 1/2 a .... (which for some real weird reason I liked those!) and mentioned it to fellow smoker, and Barbershopper my new all-time low cigarette count.

His response was "Why bother?"

Okay, I was done :)

It was still 2 more weeks before I recognized that it was not a fluke, and it was okay now to say out loud that I had quit smoking, and gave myself permission to describe myself as an ex-smoker.

It was only then that I told my wife. Mind you, I hadn't had a cigarette for a couple of weeks, and her response was: "Oh, I hadn't noticed anything"

(Note to self: less time in the woodshop, more time with the family!)

7 months 1 day smoke-free, with zero cravings, and every vape brings a thought of "oh that tastes so good"

As Broodwich & Baditude say, when you find the right combination of nic, hardware & flavor, and the time-is-right... for you, even more good things will happen :thumb:

In the meantime, celebrate every single cigarette you avoid!! :rickroll:

Some of my blogs describe my early days of this grand new chapter in my life...

As you know it took me like 8 weeks to finally say goodbye to my cigs. Sunday, May 4 I had one left at bedtime. I decided to save it for morning. In the morning I smoked it and decided to see if I could get to evening. Come evening I was ok so decided to see if I could go the entire 24 hours. I did! So then I decided if I could do that, I could stay that way, and have :)

You can see my sig...

My quit was weird. I quit on day 2, didn't smoke at all for 3 weeks, had a few a day for a week or so, then quit for 2 months, then ended up smoking 2-5 a day for a month, then quit completely. I would say that I really did quit right away, but for those couple of backslides. I didn't really intend to quit when I started vaping, but by the time I backslid it was an important goal. I did have some health issues which were alleviated by smoking in the short term but after starting treatment, they did nothing for me that the vaporizer couldn't do better, so I just stopped.

If you want it, it will happen.

Took me a month of Vaping and constant nagging from my girl to get me to completely swap cigs for vaping, and it was a lot easier then I thought. Started off with high nic juice (18-24mg) and have gradually worked my way down to 12mg so far - I quit completely March 12th This year.

Take the pressure off yourself though mate, you're smoking half you used to already that's a great accomplishment! Next time you run out of fags just see if you can go on with just vaping, worst case scenario you will need to go to the shop quickly before you choke someone lol.

Just make sure your enjoying your vape and you're getting enough nicotine, up the mg if you're not getting the nic fix.

Take it from someone who quit with absolutely no will power, just terrific liquids and a nice set up, it's not as hard as your mind makes you think, and it only gets easier from day 1 :)

I can't seem to totally shake it yet. I am doing "better", having cut my consumption of analogs in half. I have only really just gotten a handle on my equipment, and how to do all of this properly. I feel like I am getting closer to wanting to let go...yet just cannot seem to make that final decision that "today is the day". So how long did it take you? Or what helped you to finally say goodbye forever?:vapor:

It took about 1 pack of assorted-flavor Blu-Cig cartos that came with the starter kit.
When I hit the Vivid Vanilla flavor, I realized that I really liked it, and suddenly, I realized that I could really quit if I had some of that stuff at my disposal. Bought the kit, fooled with it a bit, finished the last of the remaining pack of smokes, and that was it. I just hit the vapor hard whenever I felt the urge. The rest is history.

I reasoned that if I could get the nic fix with some great flavors, what do I need cigarettes for? Moved up to egos, evods, a vamo, some nice tanks and some other things, and I could not be more amazed how easy it really was. Just hit the vapor hard in the beginning to kill off any cravings. My "need" for nicotine appeared to actually subside (I had to cut down my nic amount) after a short time. (I don't know why, but cigarettes are FAR MORE addictive than simple nicotine.....cigarettes and burning tobacco are insidious. The chemistry is very powerful on the human body, many believe by intentional design and science.) I am now between 0 and 6 mg of nic, and I am STILL amazed. Going on 16 months and approaching 10,000 stinkies avoided.

This really worked for me. I hope it works for you! (Let me ask you again: If you can get your nic fix with thousands of flavors and avoid the tar, the 4000+ chemicals, and very likely the serious health problems, why do you need cigarettes?)

All the Best...........

I had resigned myself to the fact that I would never quit, I tried a blu disposable out of curiosity. I found I liked it and the second day was only smoking 4 cigs so I thought hmmmm I could at least cut way down this way so I went out and bought a rechargeable and some cartos for it. I stayed at the 4 a day while doing a bit of research online and found ECF and some very nice helpful people who pointed me at an ego/clearomizer kit and some juice.

I continued on at the 4 a day for about a week and then down to 2, I simply liked the e-cig better than I did the real one. After about 2 weeks of vaping I began to think I really could quit smoking as the vape tasted oh so much better and the cigs were becoming nasty.

My SO still smokes so it has been a little more difficult or maybe not since I told myself that if I really really wanted one I would have it. Sometime between the 3rd and 4th week of vaping, and down to just two cigs a day I smoked my last one.

I'm not going to say it was easy because I did still have withdrawals, but we had stopped smoking in the house years before so I just vaped through the cravings. I haven't had a serious craving for a cig since about the 4th month in, now I crave vape instead. :)

I started out with 18mg which wasn't strong enough so I went to 24 for a while and have gradually reduced the nic to 6 mg. I got my first RDA in December and that is when I went to 6 mg as the 12 and 18 I was vaping was a bit much then. Switching to RDA and juice I really really like is what stopped the cravings completely and I honestly can't remember the last time I wanted a cig.

I made the decision to quit when the cigs tasted so nasty I thought I would gag, it just didn't make sense at that point. :)

I will celebrate my 1 year smoke free next month and I'm not looking back.

Me: Same day my starter kit arrived in the mail. Ex-smoker for over 9 months now. Zero desire to return to tobacco.

Co-worker: Same day he got his own kit. Ex-smoker for about 9 months now. Zero desire to return to tobacco.

Brother: Took approximately 1 week. Ex-smoker for about 6 months now. Zero desire to return to tobacco.

Family Friend: Took about 6 months. Ex-smoker for over 2 months now. Zero desire to return to tobacco.

Point is, these times are all over the place from the admittedly small sample (of now ex-smokers) that I've been involved with in converting to vaping.

The combination of the proper hardware and an awesome-tasting liquid is not to be understated! Once you've got that nailed, vaping becomes more enjoyable than tobacco cigarettes ever were. That way, you're not giving anything up - you're actually showing a net gain in this game.

All of the above quit using the Halo Triton. Co-worker and I have both upgraded, the other two are happy with the Triton for now.

Good functioning gear and good tasting juice is important, but the most important thing, I think, is your decision and commitment to quit. I had thought about it for soooo long, and I was ready. I bought my starter kit, told myself I was going to do this instead of smoke, and that is what I've done.

The first few days I felt a little nervous and anxious, but just kept on vaping, and not smoking. Someone here talked about the "ghost habit messing with your mind" and that phrase helped me any time I was tempted to light up.:)

As one who's gone cold turkey 3 times in my life (once for over 8 years), I feel I can quit at any time smoking. I choose not to, and do enjoy smoking still. Really like being a moderate smoker. Perhaps one day that'll change as I have experience being non-smoker for over a decade in my adult life (started smoking at age 16).

With vaping, it took me less than a week to realize I might be able to cease smoking with these. Then about 6 months later, I knew I could. Now, 2.5 years later, I have zero doubts that I could. But again, I am one that enjoys being a moderate smoker. Which I realize isn't the norm in vaping community as demonstrated by this thread. Though I do prefer being moderate smoker over vaping snob.

Anyway, stick to vaping and I'm sure a day will come soon where you too have no doubts that you can cease smoking and as desired, will choose a path for you that makes most sense.

My story is so much like others'.

I wanted to quit, but smoking had been such a part of my life's "history," and the rituals associated with smoking were very powerful factors. I worried about not being able to sit out on the porch during the nice summer nights because I'd always smoked during those times. Even when I take the dog outside. What would I do? How would I NOT smoke? Plus, husband smokes, and surely I wouldn't be able to avoid that influence (monkey see, monkey do).

So I, like so many others, had almost resigned myself to die this way.

The clock was ticking, though...my 39th birthday was last late April. I certainly didn't want to go into my 40s as a smoker, but I just didn't see any way around it. I am not a candidate for Chantix and I knew that nicotine gum wouldn't cut the mustard. But I'd been waking up at 3:00 and 4:00 in the mornings having panic attacks due to guilt of smoking at night with my wine. Something had to change, but every day it seemed the rituals began again.

One Friday afternoon I was getting weekend "supplies" at the smoke shop, and while this particular shop isn't a "vape shop" necessarily, they did sell little cheapo batteries and tanks and a pretty well-respected local e-juice. I asked the clerk, who was not a vaper, what I could try as a total newbie, and he sold me a little battery and a couple of juices. I didn't even know about changing a coil, lol. So I had started Vaping and didn't even quite realize it until my cigarette consumption decreased to two a day (granted, down from about 8 a day, but still).

There were gurgling tanks, sludge-like juices in tanks (mentioned I didn't know to change a coil, right?), batteries dying out, no vapor, harsh vapor...lots and lots of foibles. And again, by ACCIDENT, I drove past a new vape shop that opened in my small town, went in, and got a formal education on exactly what the heck was going on.

I upgraded to a decent battery and a decent tank and a few new juices. Cleared that coil issue up right away! ;)

Finally, two days before my birthday, I resolved to have my final cigarette. Twenty-four hours passed by without a smoke and that was the final straw. I had, at that point, been Vaping for about a month. I was down to two cigs a day. I registered here, either had an MVP in the works to buy or had it in hand (I can't remember exactly, but I believe it is the former), and just decided I had found my escape route away from smoking.

So, I guess you could say I didn't set an exact time to quit when I started Vaping; I did have a strong desire to quit, but it really only happened because I made my decision when I was ready and knew I had the tools to make it happen. If you'd told me that my original setup would be the only gear I could ever use, I would have probably failed. But I was patient with my gear and myself even when I had troubles. I just kept slogging away at it, educating, improving in small increments according to my own personal needs.

Today I am sitting high and mighty with over two months of not smoking under my belt, Hana clone and Kayfun Lite clone in hand, Vaping away at some delicious, sickly-sweet Sticky Bun and vanilla custard that would probably gross most of you out, but I find irresistible. Twenty-one years of my life I gave to a habit I thought I'd see to the grave. I will vape any gross juice I want, and proudly :)

A tome to say, be patient with yourself, be patient with your gear, keep learning, keep trying, always ask questions, and just do your best without making yourself feel like you've failed if it doesn't work for you the way you hoped it would. It can come if you keep trying. Whatever that means to you. Good luck :)

I tried a cigalike and cutdown to a few a day. The went back. A friend had a heart attack and I decided to just do it. The I smoked every cigarette I had. I got a new set up and 18mg juice and haven't picked on up. It was hard at first and now I wouldn't go back. Its been since february and still happy. Granted upgraded but still happy.

The nicest thing about vaping is the flexibility. This is no 12-step program, no timeline, no limits - do whatever feels good for you. Some vapers make the switch easier than other, and some remain dual users for a long time.

I was fortunate enough to find the transition quite easy, but this was my 3rd attempt at vaping. The first two were with Chinese cigalikes in the early days of vaping and those did not do it for me. Then, as soon as I purchased an eGo with some cartos in early 2011, it took 3 days for me to put down the combustibles. That morning I went out on the porch with my coffee and a nice fat RYO cigarette, as was my habit, I lit it, took a drag and found it distasteful. I snubbed it, pulled out the vape stick and haven't touched smoldering leaves since then.

Soon thereafter I introduced a good friend to vaping and helped him purchase the same vape gear. This friend is still a dual user...
