Hi everyone! I was wondering if someone could let me know how long the Kanger Protank 2 coils should last? Mine are only lasting about 2-3 days and from what I'm seeing from other users is that theirs are lasting for weeks...why am I so different. I vape regularly throughout the entire day - I work from home so I'm not limited to how and when I vape; therefore, it's pretty constant. I'm also vaping a mix of Space Jam's Omega and Galatica - that's pretty much the only juice I use. So could those two reasons be why I'm going through my coils so fast? Luckily, I've found that I can buy 5 - 5 packs for only $19.95 on eBay (which do come in legit KangerTech packaging) - so right now it's not breaking the bank. But I am still concerned as to why I go through mine so fast when they last so long for other people. Please let me know what you think. Thanks so much in advance!

It really depends. When someone says theirs lasts 4 weeks, they are probably using a clear or almost clear liquid with few sugars in it, they are probably not vaping it very much and they are almost certainly not vaping at a high voltage or wattage.

You can clean and dry burn those heads to get more life out of them, (search youtube for Protank 2 dry burn) but Space Jam liquids are sweet and I think the Omega is a bit on the darkish side, so if you are a medium to heavy user - 2-3 days could be normal.

25 coil heads for $20 is a great deal really, unless you want to change the way or the liquid you vape, or clean and dry burn the coils, or lower your power to your device, I doubt if you can get much longer out of them. At least the coil heads are cheap.

They lasted me for 3 days typically before I'd drop them in a cup of hot water for soaking; after soak I'd dryburn and rewick; usually in a batch, once a week.

When the metal coil itself eventually burns out, they can be recoiled, but it's not worth it imo if you can just buy a proper rebuildable instead.

I started with a mini protank 2 so it's the same coils. Heavy vaping with a sweet (dark) juice made it gunk up really bad within 2 days. As everyone else had mentioned, you can clean it, give it a dry burn to remove the gunk, rinse again to make sure the gunk is gone and you're set to go.

You'll see that after dry burning, the silica wick in the coil will turn white again. I then take the flavour wicks, press it lightly on top of the coil and do a dry burn and that'll burn off the gunk on them too, turning them white again. I managed to lengthen the life span to just a couple of days. It's quite a hassle for me, so on a new coil, I removed the wicks and replaced them with a cotton wick. When it gets gunked up, I remove the wick, dry burn, clean and replace the wick. Cotton is cheap too.

I was supposed to buy an ohm meter and coils because I wanted to recoil the kanger heads, but ended up buying an RBA :p It's life changing! So much vapor and flavour!

Wow, thank you all so much! I actually have never heard of dry burning before (obviously still new to this whole thing, ha) so I'll definitely give that a shot. It does kind of seem like a lot of work when I can get replacements so cheap but in a crunch I'm certain it will come in handy. It also makes sense now that my juice could quite possibly be the culprit because the juice I use is dark and on the thick side. But I am going to try to start doing what you guys have suggested just to see how much more I can get out of each one and then go from there. Thank you all so much!

Everyone above is right -- though to be fair I'm not a big fan of dry-burning those coils without rewicking, as you can't really get the heat you'd want, at least not without melting the insulator.

It really comes down to flavorings. You can legtimately put 120ml+ of say, an extreme-ice menthol through a coil with basically just some nicotine residue burning in, or maybe 3-6ml of something darker and rich.

What would you consider a proper rebuildable and why do you think rebuilding pro tanks are arent worth rebuilding?

That is a decent deal on these, but I am not a huge fan of the PT2 for numerous reasons. If you are happy with it though, don't change. There are other options out there that are better IMO. I hope you get the reason for going through coils nailed down.

Mine would last for about a week, depending the liquid I was using. Darker liquids build more residues on the wick and around the coil. Dry burn the coils to get it going again never was an option for me. I found out that method was not so efficient, some bad flavour would be there none the less and the rubber isolator would start to suffer some stress, potentially give you some extra horrible flavour (and who knows what else that sucker can put on yout lungs). Rebuild those coils is very easy and quick. All you need is some 30 awg kanthal, some organic cotton and a 1.4-1.6 mm pole to role your coil.

Thanks again for all of your help! I'm currently running my EMOW battery at the lowest voltage (3.7) because if I go higher I always get a burnt taste - not sure why that is though. I'm pretty new to all of this so I'm not familiar with how the whole rebuilding my own coils would work. I'm curious as to whether it would actually be cheaper than buying new ones online? I would have to buy all of the supplies, correct? Would I use the same coil structure piece (please excuse my verbiage here because I really don't know what I'm talking about - ha) and just replace the cotton wick and flavor wick each time I neded a new one? That seems pretty easy if that's the case. I'm actually about to dry burn my coil for the first time - so I'm excited to see how it turns out. Again thank you all so much for your help!

Yes. Rebuild the coils is cheaper than buy them online. You can get a lot of organic cotton and kanthal for less the 10$ (I live in Europe, must be easiear to find that in the States) and that will make you a LOT of coils. Its not that hard to do. Search this video on youtube :" Micro Coil build for Kanger Protank 2 ". There are a lot of good videos there. Some guys use silica, some use organic cotton. Dont give up on the first trys, keep playing with it a bit and you will get it right.

Even though the stock coils are cheap I personally would rebuild them. Simply because at times quality control can be a bit hit and miss. I find rebuilding and wicking with japanese cotton improves the vape and saves some money but also improves the life span of the coils.

Ya, I didnt get the not worth it comm. I would rebuild them as well.

I've always had various times of usefulness for the PT2 coils... as mentioned it depends on the juice and voltage and how often you huff on it. I actually made one last a week but I was only using ry4 and cleaning the tank out often when it became darker. It finally died when the fire button was pressed for 10 seconds when the tank was jammed in the cupholder of the car... fried the coil before the battery shut down. It might have lasted a few more days.

2 days is normal for heavy use. enjoy.

I used to dry burn mine every week or two...yes I use clear unflavored liquid. My wife uses a dark tobacco flavor so 2-3 days is normal for her (at about 4 mil per day).

PT2 really is pretty easy to build coils and wicks, if you are so inclined.

Also, give the airflow control base a try. That was the real game changer for me...gave my Protanks a new lease on life.
