Alright, so I tried doing the whole dry burn thing and failed miserably...ha. This is what I did based off of a YouTube video: I took the coil and soaked it in warm water for about 10 minutes, then I dried everything off and took off the flavor wicks. Then I took the piece that was left and put it on my battery and pressed the button a few times until it started glowing. Then put everything back together and gave it a shot. Aside from the awful burnt taste, I couldnt get a good hit whatsoever. So nothing changed from what it was before. However, even after soaking the flavor wicks were still pretty dirty looking and didn't look to be in good shape. So could that be a reason why it failed or did I do it completely wrong to begin with? I really like the EMOW and Protank 2 but I'm getting a little tired of the crappy coils. Is there a better equivalent out there that isn't complicated? I'm not quite ready to get into the mods just yet - so something simple like the EMOW and Protank?

What do you mean by the airflow control base? Sorry if that's a dumb question...still learning all of the ins and outs with each mechanism - ha.

Kanger ProTank Air Control Base

Available in many places...this is just one.

This really ends the gurgling...stops the juice from leaking into the battery well.

Pretty much the right steps...burn it until it glows evenly and stops smoking. Then you may need to rinse it again to get the cinders off and get rid of the burnt taste. If it is still wet, even slightly, you will have to vape away the water before you get any flavor from your liquid.

Can't help much with the flavor wicks. I've heard some who say to wet them and lay them on top of the coil while dry burning. Some will just burn them clean with a lighter (you remember those right). I keep extra silica wick around and take it apart to get a couple of strands for new flavor wicks.

I started with a protank 2 as well about 6 months ago. I was in the same boat as you. People were talking about their coils lasting weeks to even a month.

So I was shocked and wondered why my coils were only lasting 3 days at the most. Tried dry burning them as well, but only got another half day out of them. I have always vaped about 3.8-4 volts to 2.2 ohms even to this day because I feel the flavor is best there. Took out the flavor wicks as well.

Part of the problem was that I started out with a 20pg/80vg blend, but it did not get better even after I switched to a 50/50. Maybe it has to do with the flavor as I usually would vape sweeter and darker juices. A friend of mine vapes the same flavors but manages to make his coils last 2 weeks somehow. I

The money on a new coil was not a big issue for me. If you buy 20 of them they only cost $1 a piece. If you buy 50 it gets down to 80 cents.

Well after about 2 months I was really getting frustrated with the lack of longevity in my coils and decided to start rebuilding them. It was a scary task talking about wicks and wiring. Took me about an hour to make my first one. Now I can build them in about 5 minutes. Now I don't have to worry about buying new coils all the time. I do have to replace the insulator on the bottom from time to time though.

It's not cost a cost thing though. Rayon/Cotton wicks must better than kanthal and allows you to chain vape without too many issues. When I was using stock coils I was tasting the burn by the third hit. Flavor is noticeably better as well. I rebuild them every 3 days just like before.

Rebuilding my protank coils is a good gateway into getting the better stuff. I was onto a Kayfun about 2 months after that and not much more learning curve.

I completely understand if you're not ready to do that yet though. So the answer to your post is that yes, it's normal for some people to go through protank 2 coils in 2-3 days. That's the rate that I went through mine.

I still use my mini protank with the aerotank base to this day. as well as my kayfuns. The flavor is pretty good in the protank 2 even compared to the kayfuns.

I would definitly not recommend using coils/wicks more than 30-40ml no matter the e juice. Even Dr. Konstantinos recommend changing it after a couple of empty tanks.

I believe that you can recoil the coils from Kanger and Aspire atomizers, so the best and cheapest way will be buy some kanthal and cutton and change it more frequently. It also taste alot better Ive heard.

Just my opinion
