My sister's friend showed me her cig-a-like a few years ago in Florida. It looked like a toy, kinda like that 'Smoking Monkey' my dad had when I was a kid. No Taste, No Vapor...wasn't for me.
Now, my eGo-C, Kanger T3 tanks and eVic with a Vision rba are my vaping Machines...just took time and technology to make PVs real alternitives to ciggys.

I also agree that the correct PV with the proper mgs of nic are the keys to sticking with it, but you have to still want to.

I smoked a PAD for 26 years. The last 15 I have tried every method possible to quit. Nothing worked for me. I'm weak I guess. My longest complete quit time was 3 days. Then I'd be back to buy a pack, smoke a few, get ......, throw them out. Try again the next day. I started my ecigs with a gas station Mistic (still my backup) and I have been 39 days without a smoke. I work in a large office and can smell someone across the building if they have been smoking. Now I know what my wife has complained about all these years. I am a believer.

I knew of only one other person who has used an ecig successfully to get off of analogs - that's my brother.
I was an analog smoker for over 25 years (at one point a 2pack/day smoker) until this past Christmas when my brother gave me a V2 starter kit. I loved it immediately and haven't had an analog now for just over a month.
Since switching to ecigs, I do go through about 3 weeks of hell due to a nasty sinus infection. The ecig may or may not of been a contributor but it did exasperate the situation for sure. Could also be partially due to what some call the 'Quitter's Flu'.
I almost went back to analogs, not because I craved them (ecig took care of that) but because analogs aren't as drying to the sinus as ecigs.
I am now feeling much better & so glad I stuck with the ecigs. I love that my clothes & vehicle no longer reek of nasty smoke!!!
I've also purchased new equipment & have ventured into making my own eliquid.
I've got a new addiction!
;)

I dont know anyone else but my SO that has quite analogs besides me. We are almost a month in and have no plans on returning to analogs. I get a twing every once in while, but in my mind the e-cig has become the new reality. Even if we have to vape the rest of our lives that is ok, we are just taking one month at a time right now. What gear you uses is really alot of it and how well your going to do.

My feeling is that if they have the proper equipment and an ejuice they like they can switch without issue

This. It took me a while to transition to vaping due to the fact that I started with equipment that was of poor quality and liquid that was terrible.

I recently got into it after getting the blu disposables at my Quick Check. I was surprised and impressed by the amount of vapor they seemed to make. Then I started to think the technology may have changed since the junk I had purchased a few years back.

I was right and my quest for knowledge began. I started looking a youtube clips and came across this site. The Encyclopædia Britannica of vaping.

My interest rapidly increased. Next thing I know I'm ordering a ProVari and juices.

I didn't want to make the same mistakes I had in the past.

I figured between the overwhelming positive reviews, and unholy price it had to be the real deal.

IT IS! This past weekend was the first weekend I didn't smoke cigars in years.

I also converted a friend of mine. His ProVari arrived today and he is more than satisfied.

Since I switched to vaping almost 4 years ago and haven't had a cigarette since. I believe I"m a confirmed success story. When I switched I never looked back. I used high nic liquid, much more common back then, and went through a trevail to find the right equipment. In 2008 it was nothing like today. From the very first I liked vaping better than Cigarettes.

I'm weak, the gum, patches, etc never did anything for me. I like my nicotine and the hand to mouth motion of smoking/vaping. I just don't/didn't want to die Early.

I had a bigger inducement than most.
When I began I was 48 years old with 4 year old son, 7 year old daughter, and 11 year old daughter, I knew that smoking would eventually kill me and I want to be around for my children. Vaping, while not completely safe or healthy, theoretically is healthier than smoking.

I did develop an allergy to PG and the artificial ingredients in most liquids. So now I diy with organic flavorings.

I will repeat, using high nic liquid, the switch was effortless!
I haven't converted anyone to e-cigs yet but I should.

If it matters out of 308 converts 23 have not been successful. The failure rate was previously slightly higher (34) but some came back and with a little more effort were able to be analog free. Success...some of my converts still have the occasional analog but most are not finding them enjoyable...it's just a matter of time IMO.
LOL may as well just become a vendor.

I think that is what set in for me. I was about to turn 30 and I could no longer easily ignore the health risks associated with traditional cigarettes. Pretty much told myself I could spend what I want on a nice set up, but whether I like it or not I couldn't go back to smoking. Been a little over 5 months and has worked great.

I feel people who have gotten on in years ... reality sets in what lies in store if smoking is continued. When I was in my 20s I was also relatively unconcerned about the dangers of smoking and would not have been interested in e-cigs.

I went through 510 trio, v2 (3 kits costed 410$ yikes!!!!!!), and ego c and even though I was saving some by vaping still I couldn't get the satisfaction I craved and would still smoke often throughout the day. Eventually I purchased a z max with vivi nova and found my liking s when it comes to juice preferences and haven't smoked an analog since.
E cigs are extremely successful; however you have to work out all the kinks. No one kit is made for everyone, I have several starter kits at home that between me and my lady we have purchased and only two of them get used often and that the ego twist and zmax mod, so as an individual you have to do your homework and know what you want to purchase to be successful, and often times after doing homework it's still trial and error, because even if everyone likes something, doesn't mean you will.
Important part is to keep plucking away and vaping. Educate yourself about vaping as you go. The more you learn the easier it becomes. It has it's own learning curve in a sense but once you have learned about your styles of vaping and your preferences it's WAY better than traditional cigs.......

Don't know about those who backslide, but I'm fairly confident I won't be one of them... I just wish I'd found e-cigs a few years ago... Am 64 and had smoked since I was in my early teens I'm told (can't remember the actual facts 'cuz of chemo-induced long/short term mem loss) and had tried about everything to quit with no success... Of course, part of that was the fact that my better-half also smoked and you can't really stop when someone else in the house is toking away if you know what I mean... My cancer wasn't lung so even that wasn't enough incentive to really pull the plug though I had been off cigs for a year before I hit a rough spot and basically just said to hell with it and started up again... Found e-cigs earlier this year, and after the inevitable newbie search for the right setup, have finally found a home with vaping... Love it and have no desire at all to go back to analogs -- no desire at all!!

So the question I have is how many people do you know that stop using e-cigs and what reasons did they give?

I converted about 10 people and only 2 of them stop using e-cigs.
One person just totally stop using cigarettes and e-cigs and thanks me everytime we meet.

Another one got convinced by his wife that prescription is better than unapproved by FDA e-cigs and using Chantix even after I provided a whole bunch of negatives against it.

Myself? Looking forward to 4 years anniversary.

Main issue is this.

Smokers wants a small ecig yet most small ones dont work too good.

Large devices work better but most smokers dont want to use them in public.

Plus vaping can be quite tiresome, charging, refilling, leaks, changing atties etc.

I just want to buy prefilled cartos or disposables now, getting too old for this crap.

Of course others love the hobby side of things but most smokers dont want to turn smoking/vaping into some hobby.

As I recall there were 2 non clinical studies done and the success rates were 73% and 80%.
More telling is the study from Italy.
Dr. Polosa completed a pilot study of 40 smokers unwilling to quit, using e-cigarettes to reduce the number of cigarettes per day:
http://www.biomedcentral.com/content/pdf/1471-2458-11-786.pdf
Here's a video interview with Dr. Riccardo Polosa:

And here's:
Smoking Cessation and Reduction With an Electronic Nicotine Delivery Device (ENDD) - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov

The bottom line is I don't care how someone quits smoking, just as long as they do. I was at the Dentist the other day and vaping in the office (Dentist wants me to vape in his office- converted his brother who had tried over a dozen times to quit)...anyways a gentleman told me he quit cold turkey in 1980 and it was the worst time of his life. He was glad to see that there was a viable alternative to the present smoking cessation progs and he sincerely wished me the best of luck.
