I don't remember exactly, but it was either .30 or .35 cents a pack at the drive in. (not the movie type) Pull in and flash your lights for curb service. Same price as a school lunch. Gas was about .29 cents. Loaf of bread .25 cents. But milk, now that was expensive at .76 cents a gallon in big glass returnable jugs.
Just divide the cost of almost anything now days by 10 and you get what things cost in 1966. Cars, houses, food, clothing. Hamburger and a Coke 30 cents. Hot dog 15 cents. Phone booth call a nickle. Fried pie a dime. Candy bars, mostly cost 5 cents. Bubble gum a penny a piece for Double Bubble or the baseball card gum. A tube of BB's for a dime. Electronics are the exception. They have gotten cheaper.
One of MacDonalds TV add campaigns in the early 70's was "A burger, fries, coke, and change back from your dollar."
My first house in 1977 was brand new 1250 sq. feet 2 bdrm, 2 bath, 2 car garage on 1/3 acre for $30, 500. Payments were $289 a month. 8.25 percent interest rate and that was a good deal at the time. Oh, I might have gotten off the subject here. Well, you know how us old guys are, LOL.
