My LEDs work now!!!!

So I followed the instructions given for testing the LEDs. They lit with the meter using what I had wired them for in regard to positive & negative-which was just as the puck had described. So I couldn't figure out why they weren't working. I decided to try changing the resistors.

Back when I bought my parts, it wasn't specified what wattage to get for the resistors. They had 1/4 watt and 1/2 watt. I asked the puck about it back on page 25 and he said it didn't matter and I could use the smaller one. Well dummy me used the 1/2 watt and apparently size does matter! I replaced them with the 1/4 watt and .... let there be light!

So now BOTH pucks are FULLY FUNCTIONAL! and still :vapor: away! I'm so happy. And again-thanks to Stosh and all the other helpful folks in this thread. Couldn't have done it without you!:thumb:

Not to worry, seems there is always someone who is willing to help, as was the case with my question. I also changed the resistor. The person at radio shack asked me about the wattage and of course I couldn't really answer him other than to explain what I was doing with them and so he made some suggestions and they worked out for me.

Take care and enjoy, thx.

I don't actually feel like sitting down and working out how much current goes where and how much voltage will be between any two junctions for things like this. I look at the current listed on the package for the LED, then take the maximum voltage that I will ever be applying, then use ohm's law to figure out about how much resistance is needed. For example, if you think that you might sometimes use 4 alkaline batteries in a pinch, the max voltage will be ~6V. When figuring resistance for that, you have R=V/I. If the package on the LED says 30mA, you need 200 ohms. If it says 20mA, you'll need 300 ohms. If it says 10mA, you'll need 600 ohms. This is by no means exact and many EEs would probably scoff at me, but if you can do arithmetic in your head, you can go to the ratshack and decide what you want on the fly.

Pass? Apparently so, and saved from the Puck hospital. Great job. You got my vote.

Garand555, thanks for the explanation. I am afraid it will take me several reads to maybe understand that explanation. I am still at a loss as to voltage, ohms, and all that stuff. I am trying to figure it out in regards to taste, battery consumption, heat, TH, and all that stuff and how it works together or against each other. Whew.... I'll probably just get lucky and hit on somethig that tickles my fancy before I understand all that other stuff....

Thank you, thank you!

Even though I'm preaching to the choir - can I just say how blown away I am by the performance of the 901 atty on these things. It's incredible-never thought a 901 could be just as powerful a hitter as my ce2s. In fact, I think I'm getting better hits out of it. It's quite shocking. So if there's any other noobs out there on the fence about trying one of these-don't hesitate. It's worth your effort!

Congratulations, Jewelz! Good job. And about the way the 901's hit @ around 4.8 v, it is truly amazing. In fact, I've gotten so spoiled by it, that I regularly change them out as soon as I notice *any* drop off. I'm less concerned with how long I can go on a set of batteries, than I am on getting that EXCELLENT hit a fresh set gives you. (Truth be known, I even started doing the same thing on ALL my PV's, but honestly, none of them come close to the Puck, even with fresh batteries)

Vape ON! :)

I'm back again....even though you're probably sick of me! :p

So I'm :vapor: along for 15 days with my pucks and they're working great. But my atty's are not. I've blown through 3 of em already. Is there a recommendation for a particular brand and/or supplier for attys that last a long time? I bought my last two in preparation for the puck from ecigexpress, but I'm only getting like 4 days out of em. I had hoped to get a couple of weeks out of em! Am I being overly optimistic about their life?

Hey Jewelz, welcome back...:)
with the Puck you're putting out about a whole volt or more than your normal PV batteries,
a slightly higher resistance 2.5 to 3 ohm rating should last a bit longer.

I've been using CE2s from Bauway at 2.9 ohms, last me for weeks of heavy vaping.

Thanks so much! I will be sure my next order has higher ohm stuff.

Hello everyone. Just want to say thanks to Mr. Puck for the great tutorial! Last night I was able to build my first (probably of many) Pucks. Took me a while though cuz the only thing I had was a v2 shorty 510-510 extender to use as a connector and I hadn't ever soldered before lol. But in the end it works great. So thank u Mr. Puck and all the "pucksters" for all the helpful info.

Lol thanks! I'm surprised since it was 2:30 am and I wasn't to cracked up about using a mini pink hot glue gun anyways! The hardest part for me was getting the connector soldered up since it was a sealed extension. So far I'm loving this thing though. Now just to spruce it up a little ; P
I like the idea of the cruiser but not exactly sure how to add it on.

congrats on your new babies!! and don't forget for the price, you can build
more of them, move the switch of atty placement a bit to fit your preference...:)

experiment a bit, find what fits your hand, vaping style, or even connector type..
build one for 808, one for 901, one for 801....sky's the limit for less than $10 a piece.
