I play roller derby and my derby name is Daisy. In derby it gets to the point that often you don't associate someone with their "government name"; heck, you might not even KNOW it! I handle a fair amount of our league business both in and out of the derby community so I started signing my emails "Daisy (aka Tina)" so people would know who they were working with. And akatina just kinda stuck...

Now that I've read this thread, as I cruise around the forum I see these names and have a more personal connection. In the back of my mind it's like...oh yeah, I remember his/her story on how the name came to be.

So to Chimney, thanks for starting this thread. :D. It really puts a human touch to what is essentially an impersonal medium.

My real name is Danny. In 2009 my wife and I moved into an old warehouse in downtown Denver. It had been a punk rock venue for years and was covered in random grafitti, so we bought 20 gallons of mistint gray oil base from the local paint store and buffed the entire place. My friend Chris was the first one to call it the Primerdome. We started throwing electronica shows and selling our art there, calling ourselves a DIY art space. In 2010 the vice cops were onn us about being an unlicenced "club" so we moved to the Art District and started focusing more on artwork and screen printing. We picked up our third member BLK MTL, a talented artist. Since then we have been at 2 other locations and now reside at the Denver Art Society, a nonprofit artists co-op. We do custom artwork, printing, and street art and showcase alot of our friends - local deejays and artists.

At first the Primerdome was a place, now were a collective of 3 and a creative brand. We all use the name as if it was our own. We're an art crew.

I shortened the name for ECF.

Danny of Primerdome, Thats me.

My name is Ed. Many moons ago I was a deckhand on sport fishing boats. I was late for work one day and literally missed the boat. While waiting for it to return and pick me up one of the other captains asked me if my horse had died or my carriage broke down. He said you wear a big flat hat, have a big beard (it was a goatee) and smoke a pipe. You must be Amish. For a while though depending on the boat I was working on it would change... Amish Ed, Miles Standish, Jebediah Springfield, Special Ed, and Edward Wristbands were the main ones. Eventually I was just Amish Ed and I've been using it ever since.

I've been using this name for over 10 years now. I needed a name for a forum and I was in my kitchen baking at the time. So I came up with me cocina. I'm usually in the kitchen cooking/baking/crafting something.

My username also goes way back. 2001 maybe? Registering for a forum, sitting in my tiny excuse for an apt at the time, looking around for inspiration, and caught sight of a favorite book. The initial iteration was longer (full book title), but I've used some version of it many places around the web.

Virtual cookies to anyone who knows the book in question ;)
OR recognizes my avatar.
