So, I've become a bit disenchanted with my current work/out of the house mod, it was giving me some issues today which are resolvable, but annoying. So, I'm looking for new mod, with the above specs. Preferance is towards copper, but with the single tube hybrid I'm not expecting much in the way of volt drop. I know the go to pick is the SMPL and I'm holding that in reserve if I can't find a magnetic switch. The others I can think of are the 4 nine, and the Tugboat. Right now I'm leaning towards the copper tugboat, but I'm not enamored of it. Anyone have any suggestions, I'm good with clone or reasonably priced authentics.

I have two mods in regular rotation. I have a Super T workhorse with SS and Brass tubes that I use for being out of the house. I also have an authentic red copper stingray that I've been using in hybrid mode. I have a clone stingray x that I also use in hybrid mode, but it seems lackluster. The workhorse usually works pretty well, but it was giving me some hot button issues today with the SS tube (interestingly, never got that problem with the brass tube), and even in peak performance just doesn't hit as well as the red copper stingray.

The XXIX is nice, but for that money I'd probably go back to the SMPL. The Ministry Mod seems like it might be close. Is that a removable top cap like the tugboat? or solid tube construction like the SMPL?? Shame about that engraving though :). The cigreen excalibur is right out, I had a dragon, and I hated it. If the SMPL had a magnetic switch I'd probably be picking one up now.

I believe the top cap on the Shorty is removable. And, I'm with you on the engraving. I'd likely own one already if not for the engraving. Price seems about right for what you get.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the SMPLs spring switch. I received my authentic copper SMPL last week from VaporDNA and while the switch was a little crunchy at first it has smoothed out completely and has an awesome throw and feel now. I'm super happy with it and it most certainly hits much harder than my Workhorse.

Speaking of the Workhorse, you have the HD spring, correct? I did get an occasional hot button when I ran the "regular" spring with fairly low builds but can't remember any issues with the HD spring. I ran a .25ohm build on it for months with no problems. It's pretty much my dedicated to my Squape R now which is built to .41ohms and, predictably, also has no issues.

I agree with the BCV XXiX or Surfrider. As explained to me by James, the modder at BCV, the only thing that effects the voltage on a hybrid is the button. Only the button not the housing or anything else. I have the Surfrider in SS and Brass and put the copper button in and there's no difference between the SR and my XXiX with regards to voltage drop.

I was looking at the Vapor DNA SMPL, but there are enough threads on that to get a halfway decent feel out there (which if i decide on the SMPL I'm gonna hit up those threads to find out which of the authentics/clones I should get), I'm leaning towards it, but we'll see. Nothing kills me more then a mod with good specs, and a ....ty engraving.

As far as my work horse goes, I never had an issue with it when I ran it with the brass tube, but with the SS tube I get regular hot button issues. I did a fast clean up of it at work by wiping down the contacts and sliding points with a rough paper towel, and there was definitely some arc marks, and accidently took out one of the spacers under the negative pin and it seemed to be better, only slight warmth, but it is one of the more recent runs he did, and supposedly it came with the HD spring. It never got so hot that it burnt my finger, but it was definitely loosing performance on my orchid v4, big block, and vulcan. All built to .25-.3. I really need to get magnets for it,supposedly the nemesis magnets will fit.

Regarding the switch on the smpl, is it possible to fit it with magnets?

I'm not entirely sure if the authentic switch can be modded with magnets or not. I'm assuming it could be. The answer may be in the authentic SMPL thread. Some of the clones come with magnet switches, I believe.

I have a NoName Basic v3, which I like a lot:

- Single 18650 tube
- Hybrid style topcap
- Magnetic button, with short throw and very light touch
- copper switch contact
- $99

- Not copper body though...

The only things I would say about this in addition are that a) It has a locking ring (the switch is so light, it needs it - but it will stand up without firing) and b) You really need an atty with an adjustable center pin as there is no battery rattle adjustment in the mod itself. I had to shim the center pin on my KFL to get it to fit tight with Samsung 25Rs.

Thats close to what I'm looking for. What does that disk do?

The disk is not normally included on the 18650 version as far as I can tell (even though it's in Vaperev's pictures) - it's included in the 18500 version to be a spacer to allow AW 18490 batteries to fit right as they are 1mm shorter than standard 18500 batteries. It's essentially a delrin (i.e. non conductive) disk with a small copper "slug" in the middle to allow the positive pole on the battery to connect with the atty.

+1 for the 4Nine.
I know it's not a single tube, but the seams between sections are very difficult to notice. I use one every day, it works perfectly and requires no maintenance. The bottom buttons and delrin magnet spacers are replaceable from clones if ever needed, replacement magnets are easily found if needed, and the hybrid top cap can be bought after market (clones have different threading to originals). And they look gorgeous and are a great piece of industrial design. I personally cannot fault the 4Nine whatsoever.

I had considered the 4 nine, but I heard that it had issues at deeper subohm levels (.2-.3), and to be honest, the thing that bugs me about separate tube sections is its another set of threads to clean and another contact point for voltage drop. I never use anything other then an 18650 battery, and if I were i've got a clone and an authentic that can handle all battery sizes. I'm sticking with single tube sections from here on out. Thank you for the suggestion though, right now I'm leaning most towards the SMPL.
