Hello,

I am just curious about other people's experiences with people seeing them Vape.

For the most part people just look at me and look away (as if I am smoking an analog).

I have two quick stories.

A few times I had a person see me vape and ask if they can bum a analog. I explained to him that this was an electronic cigarette. He was interested in finding out everything that he can and they would usually say, "I've been trying to quit smoking for years and haven't". I told them, "I used to be a 2 pack a day smoker then didn't smoke anything for almost a year. Now I just smoke on vacation or bum one here or there, usually 1 cig a weekend when hanging out but no urge to buy another pack". Explained the ins and outs of it the best I could and he even ask me where he could buy some and if he needed other information I told him to go to the ECF:laugh:.

Once however... I was interning in San Francisco. I went downstairs to the bottom of the office building (40 story building). I went to the smoking area and started to vape. This woman (in her mid 20's), stuck up, aviator glasses, basically a teenage girl was talking on a cell phone. Being in the City it is quite windy and some vapor happened to blow her way:vapor:. She said, "EXCUSE ME!!! But can you please not blow that MY WAY I have ASTHMA!!!'. I said, "I am sorry, but this is an electronic cigarette, there is no smoke, only vapor." She responded, "I KNOW WHAT I SMELLED!!!". To my smart ... attitude and me not liking hers I simply said with a slight attitude, "What? Air?!?":glare:. She then told her friend on the phone that I am a "Beepen @$$ BEEPEN BEEP BEEP BEEP". I simply laughed on the inside but let out a smirk and turned the other cheek. She then went inside the building and got a security guard and he came up to me and ask what was the situation and that I was causing her problems. I explained everything even including that I am in the designated smoking area even though I am vaping. He told the lady it was her fault (since this was the smoking area) and she went ballistic. The security guard told her if she doesn't calm down he will have to call the police. She complied but gave me the EVIL look the whole time she went inside. (keep in mind as a child I had bad asthma and even when I do smoke an analog I follow the rules and hide my cigarette when I see a child. I hold my breath every time someone walks by due to courtesy.)

Well after that day I just decided to vape in the office after asking everyone if it was OK. They said, "its not real smoking right?" I told them no. They actually enjoyed it and would visit my area just to see what new flavor I was smoking that day. They called me the, "portable air freshener":2cool:.

You'll see a lot of the batteries being sold today are in colors (black is popular). One of the main reasons is that people won't confuse those with analogs.

There is a lady in our office building that walks out through the side door where the smokers hang out. She loves to make faces and wave her hand around to clear the air as she walks by. It's her way of making a point. The thing is, she wears this god awful perfume that she must buy for $3 a gallon at Big Lots. She peels the paint wherever she walks. Talk about air pollution!

I still have a lot of my previous behaviors, such as not smoking where there are other unknown or non-smoking people around (which used to drive my husband crazy when we were out and about together!) so I haven't "braved" too much of vaping in the midst or around people I don't know or in areas that are no smoking areas. I'm sure that will change, the longer I am doing this.

As for that lady in SF who complained about the so-called "smoke", she shouldn't have been standing in a designated smoking area if she didn't want to be around smoke!

For me it has been two different reactions (sometimes from the same people). It has been simple: Antagonistic, superior, purist attitudes and reactions from smokers when everyone is smoking and I am the only vaper. Unadulterated curiostiy, intrigue, and slight envy while indoors when I am the only one able to enjoy (especially when it a** freakin' frezzing outside!).

I did not read the whole thread... Next time someone says I have asthma, you say, " Propylene Glycol is the main stabilizing agent in asthma inhalers". Obviously you improvise a bit more on the ingredient list. This statement is true, taken from med journal.

Get a load of this: A woman I know is not generally in good health, and recently even had stints put in her heart arteries. She was a smoker, had quite after the stints, but of late has gone back to smoking.

Noticing this, I talked to her about vaping. Her eyes lit up as she watched my own eyes flutter blissfully up into their sockets while pulling a long, glorious toot of Bobas and exhaling a fog bank in front of her , and she questioned me about it. Her eyes lit up even more when I told her I'd put together a care package for her consisting of an ego batt & charger, an atty, typed instructions how to drip, a few juice bottles (flavor variety no less... nice guy that I am. What?... well yeah, they were my crappy juices for the most part, but you didn't think I was gonna part with my Bobas now, did you? lol). I even showed her a brand new drip tip, still in a sealed wrapper, so that she knew it was clean and sterile, and my mouth had not fouled it. I told her to use it for a few weeks so she could determin if she'd like to switch to vaping and save her health.

After a few weeks, and numerous inquiries as to how she was getting along, if she was having any problems, and which juices she liked or not - which I never really got any coherent answers - and her even inquiring where she could buy the ego stuff, she returned the package saying just that she thought it was "okay... pretty good, I guess" and thanked me. Alright, maybe it's not for her, that's her perogative. I was just glad that I could help and at least offer her an alternative and let her experiment without any cost expenditures.

When I got home and looked in the package, I noticed that the drip tip was still sealed in it's cellophane wrapper, never opened, never used. And as far as I could tell, the juice levels in the bottles seemed unchanged. Apparently, something about that beautiful care package scared her... either that or something about my motives, which makes no sense as we've been acquainted for many years.

But what a phony baloney that woman was. To this day, I still get the impression that she, in complete ignorance of vaping, thought I was trying to poison her or something, (maybe it didn't help that I included the last portion of a good juice, my Rawr Poison, the word printed boldly on the bottle in all its glory) - when in fact, I was trying to save her from toxic stinkies. The nerve!

I tend to ignore her now when I see her.

To be honest, it depends on the person but, I've never had a negative reaction. So, I can't speak to that but, here are the three classes I've noticed and have talked to:

Current smokers want to know whether it works, what it costs, how to go about switching, and how hard it is. They aren't particularly interested in how they work. Sometimes they give me a little ribbing but, it's all in fun. I don't mind.

Never smokers usually think it's really cool and it winds up like a science lesson. They tend to want to know how they work, what's in the juice, etc.

Ex-smokers really seem uncomfortable. They will admit they'd rather see me not smoking but, they are conflicted. They seem to feel like I somehow cheated by not going through as much hell as they did. I'll get remarks like, "But, you're still addicted." Of course, I explain that addiction wasn't what bothered me about smoking. They seem unsatisfied.

I sometimes wonder why I never have the trouble others do but, I vape indoors a lot and I've done it in 4 states. No one has ever complained. I suspect it may be an attitude. It's clear that I don't think it's anything remarkable. I'm not self-conscious about it nor am I flaunting it. I'm just minding my own business being comfortable. No one seems to mind.

Please don't use anything that resembles a cigarette in public though. You're better off with a mod that looks like it fell off a UFO. Most of the problems come from people thinking you are smoking.

Wow... that is unbelievable. My grandpa who passed away at the age of 68 due to smoking but when he saw me smoke my e-cig he was happy to see me smoke that instead of the cigarettes he used to see me smoke. Unfortunately after he was told to stop smoking many many years ago he continued (he smoked 3-4 packs a day, no filter since he was 14). Eventually he needed heart surgery so only 1/3 of his heart worked (we used to make fun of him saying, "so you can only get it 1/3 the way up?". Due to this though, his kidneys started to fail which caused water to swell in his body and he was on oxygen due to the heart and lungs. I was happy when he died because he was suffering for many years (wow that sounds wrong). Anyways, even though he was old he had an open mind but I can see some older people thinking this new E-cig is the devil. Even a fellow co-worker at the time used to tell me (you know, I was thinking about switching to an electronic cigarette but I dont know if they are safe. I think and heard they are worse then regular cigarettes... Even though I tried to tell him otherwise he said, "where is the actual proof!". I said, even if they are worse, I have only seen myself get better. No more morning cough or hacking a loogie in the morning. When I get a chest cold, I recover in about a week compared to a month and no more gray/blackish plhem and I have more breath and stamina than before. He still doesn't want to even try it.

I 100 percent agree with you with other peoples reactions. However in my case my brother who got me smoking who just quit says, "why do you still smoke that?" I tell him, "I dont know, but i lowered the nicotine to 2mg which is practically nothing". Then he says, "then you are addicted and if the nicotine is that low then quit? Its just a toy to you." I say, "yeah it kinda is now, I enjoy it and even if I smoke 0 nic I will still vape from it." He never likes that and this conversation comes up at least once a week like Deja vu.

I wouldn't do this with the general public but, this is your brother. Just ask him why it bothers him and why it's his business. Now if it was my brother and I do have one, I'd just tell him I was going to do what I wanted and he could cram it. Then we'd laugh about it and open another beer. :)

My step father calls it a money pit- and my friends enjoy it.. I always bring a set of drip tips for them to use when we are together. They enjoy it, but don't really see a reason to buy one- however, I have one friend who've I've convinced on using an e-cig and has purchased a FS510.. He won't budge and purchase a bigger/better PV. he certainly could use a MOD by now.. he loves the throat hit and vapor production mine gives out.

However, I do refuse to use mine in general public. Most people are not sure what It is.. and it's too new. I have ran into other vapers with similar products.. but they are not serious.

I hate causing attention to myself, I feel having an 'e-cig' is proving that you are better than anyone else. It's not the case for me, I'm just using something new that fits me and something I enjoy.

Here comes the flame wars on me... *puts up shield*

I asked the bartender in Ruby Tuesdays last night what managements stance was on e-cigs, her reply was "I've never been asked" so she asked and I got the go ahead as long as it didn't bother anyone around me. So I sat there drinking my beer, eating my dinner and putting out vapor like a choo choo train. Not one word was said about the fog.

Therein lies the source of your discomfort. Having an e-cig doesn't prove we are better than anyone else. It doesn't prove anything. It just "is". It's a habit/a hobby/a pleasure. Doesn't prove anything any more than a person who enjoys having coffee or tea all day. Or who loves chewing gum. Or who has a pet iguana.

It's just something you like to do. If you like to do it when you are in public, you should. It isn't any more harmful to those around you than chewing gum in their presence.

And it doesn't "prove" anything.

I sincerely applaud your efforts. Just so I am clear you gave an older woman an eGo w a bottle (among a few) with the word poison on it?, and your confused why she didnt touch it.
I gave away my original KR808's to 2 diff neighbors when I got my eGo setup and they both are vapers now. The point is I love your effort, but I'm wondering what you thought she would think when she saw this newfangled device with a bottle w the word poison on it.

lol. To be honest, I didn't give it a second thought as I was putting the package together, thinking only, based on my appreciation of Rawr's tobacco juice, how much she (should?) enjoy it... after all, that was by far the best juice in the lot. It was only after I found the package unused when I began to see it the way you see it now. You're right though, that may have not been the wisest choice. Oh well... my bad, but my intentions were good, and thank you for recognizing that.

Edit: Taking your point to heart, maybe I'll stop ignoring her. :)
