What does this have to do with anything since the entire conversation is about ego batteries?

Whatever setup you have, you'll have to carry some gear with you if you want reliability with e-cigs. A cartotank could fail, I'd rather be carrying around a few small cartomizers than bottles of e-liquid. I don't see cartotanks at all as convenient. Tanks and clearomizers in general are messy, and with something like nicotine e-liquid, that is hardly convenient.
I'm guessing most people here that are not fans of cigalikes have never even tried a gen 2 KR808 auto battery or Kanger horizontal coil cartomizers. This setups hits about as hard as my Ego and Vivi Nova and are much more consistent.
i too think a ego kit is a good starting point..worked for me but i moved up 3 weeks later to a vmax then at the 3 month mark i got a provari...its all good i dont have the ego anymore ive passed em on to a smoker..well ex smoker now.
a ego is a good starting point for someone who is unsure abought jumping into vaping full on b...z deep
For the price of a carton of cigs... you could buy a variable voltage mod. I just see it as more honest to say look, vaping will cost you money up front if you want it to work. Going into something like this half-hearted doesn't make sense: smoking is a serious habit that's hard to break, why go into it half-cocked?
You could get a disposable e-cig for 5-10 bucks and decide if vaping is for you. If it is, then I don't see the point in having a "beginner e-cig".
Companies like Halo and Smokeless Image (all suppossedly "proprietary connections") sell a wide range of products backed by a warranty and they have a branded reputation. Your local B&M e-cig store, the local flea market, or that dude selling stuff on eBay has little to lose if you are dissatisfied. Smokeless image actually pulls some of their stuff off their online store if enough people find it doesn't work well. I'm unimpressed with most B&M's (here in Orlando)... the prices I've seen there are often obscene and the staff are often no more in tune with what works than you or me, to me it's just people taking advantage of smokers desperate to quit and of the availability of cheap, junky 510 connection devices mass-produced in China. This stuff is just asking for government regulation.
The vaping community should be directing smokers to online vendors with good reputations and cautioning people about B&M's and the proliferation of cheap Chinese junk.

I agree If a beginner wants a fighting chance of getting off the analogs they really need something better than an ego
An inexpensive VV VW mod and a clearo like a Pro tank or a Nautilus is a good choice
A setup like this still cost less than smoking for a week and will drastically enhance your chance of making a smooth transition
I disagree with this 100%.
Personally, I started with cig-alikes (didn't work), then went with a ego/evod and quit smoking that same day (almost a year ago). At this point, I have mechanicals, VV/VW mods, drippers, cartotanks, various clearomizers, etc. etc. Yet for convenience and form factor, I use ego/clearos 99% of the time.
And it's not just me. I suspect that the vast majority of vapers are perfectly satisfied with ego batteries - you just don't hear from them on this board. They're not looking to blow clouds and are not interested in fiddling with things - they just want something to substitute for smoking.
And as a store owner, I can attest that at least 3-4 people/week come in with a vamo or whatever and want a smaller setup because the vamo "is too big to carry around with them". (Nothing against vamos, it's just that a store in the next town pushes them pretty heavily so that's what I see.)

You say it's small? well my ego's with a Pro tank mini is about 13" long it is a small diameter but still not small
A Reo Mini is Small even with an 18490 it is easily concealed in your hand
Wish I could have just put in AA sized batteries in them. Turns out AA size is 14500 size; seems the only mods I can find that take 14500 lithium ion batts are mech mods.
