Very true.... And for that $160 I can't vape a thing. Because I need batteries, a charger, a delivery system...etc...etc..It add's up. The minimum I charted a ProVari with appropriate charger, batteries and such was the 219.00 they charge for the starter kit. And for that I get one PV and one ProTank 2.

For $45.00 and some juice I can start vaping my MVP'2 out of the box. I could buy 5 MVP 2's with 5 I-Clear 30's for $225.00. I could use each MVP 2 for two days but it on a charger and rest it for 8 and charge each unit once every 10 days. I would only be using each one for 1 day out of 5, so my wear and tear on the units goes down as well.

Even if I calculated my charge cycles 33% lower than what is rated for the LiPo battery installed, (200 charges) that still equates to 2000 days or nearly 5 and 1/2 years. And that's based on a full level of discharge. Of course the installed LiPo will lose about 10% capacity per year like any LiIon, so by the end of my 5 years, my MVP's would only hold about 1300 mAh, or the same equivalent charge as a brand new high capacity 18350's. So in 5 years I go from the equivalent of 18650's to 18350's and with the MVP's USB pass through I can vape while charging so 1300 mAh on an MVP isn't the same as swapping out batteries.

I've never argued the build quality of the ProVari. In my opinion it is second to none. But after the warranty period, a single repair for a ProVari is 75% the cost of a new MVP. It's not the build quality I have an issue with, it's the fact that a ProVari requires a nearly 5 year return of investment when compared to my MVP's.

That's a pretty long time. Now, when you look back when ProVape started, someone who purchased a ProVape product in 2010, they have gotten their return of investment rather quickly. I used to wash an 8080KRD regularly when I started vaping in 2010. (I relapsed and went back to cigs for several years). At $20 a battery, I went through $100 in batteries alone pretty quickly. A ProVape 1 or ProVari would have been a no brainer back in 2010. I could have made back my investment in less than a year AND have unbelivable vape quality at the same time.

2014 is completely different. The ProVari hasn't changed. It's still great. But everyone else has stepped up their game. Who would have "thunk it" that in 2013, I could get a 2600 mAh VV/VW all in one package like the MVP2 for less than $45.00? Add to that, the fact that the vape quality of a mod like an MVP is so close to that of a ProVari, that many ProVari users use MVP's as their backups or out and about vapes means the vape quality gap has narrowed significantly in 4 years. The ProVari quality is still there, but the quality of it's competitors has lengthened my ROI from 1 year to 5 years. And thats a simple truth.

Wow.

This seems really important to you, to inspire this mega post. You have to buy an atomizer, batteries, a charger, and e-liquid with any tube mod. You shouldn't lump those into the mod cost...but you do. Whatever. The mod costs $159.

Don't waste your money on it, then. It's your simple truth, sir, not mine.

I didn't read the whole thread.

I have a couple old full sized ProVaris that I love and use regularly and a mini that I don't really like (it's the feel of the teardrop pattern in my hand I dislike).

I also have several mechs that I rarely use. I love the look, but prefer a solid, well regulated device.

I have had Vamos that have failed and an MVP that I truly dislike. Both the vamo and the MVP "worked", but neither worked well or reliably. The MVP, to me, is a total waste of money.

I just wish that ProVape offered the ProVari with a flat top cap instead of the current tapered cap.

I have rings and a couple hippos, but would rather not have to buy/add additional parts just so my toppers don't look stupid, especially on such a great performing device.

A lot of us are simply responding to the rabid fandom exhibitted by SOME (not all) very vocal ProVari users.

There's a reason that Phil Bussardo took a crack at ProVari fandom at the beginning of his review with the whole monk and candle thing and the Enigma gregorian chat bit.

Yes, PBussardo "gets it". And he uses a ProVari, but he also recognizes that ProVari owners come out of the wood work everytime someone says something that can be construed as negative about the device, and I've gotten some borderline hateful comments from some users.

It's not the ProVari itself that draws the hatred, it's the ProVari or nothing attitude that some here exhibit. I've been on this forum for quite sometime, and never have seen a Reo thread generate the viotrol a ProVari thread will generate.

You have great ProVari users like Baditude that give thoughtful advise and appreciate that a ProVari is a long term investment and should be viewed that way. He never pushes a ProVari on anyone without thoughtfully looking at their needs.

Then you have the "others" that feel that ProVape can do no wrong....No Variable Wattage? Don't need it, it's not "real". Clumsy single button UI?...You have to get used to it...High initial investment?.....It's made in the US and if you don't buy it, you are a commie...or you could afford cigs, so surely you can afford a ProVari...As if cost were the ONLY thing keeping people from buying it.

None of that comes from the REO camp.

Make no bones about it....The ProVari, in its self is fantastic at what it does, and it's build quality is without peer. But it has remained unchanged for nearly 4 years (with the exception of .5 amp current limit raise to 3.5 amps and cosmetic tube changes). When we were "blessed" with those ultra reliable 8080KRD's it did not take long to see the advantage of a ProVari, especially when your ROI was a year on the outside.

The vaping community has changed drastically in 4 years. There are many other choices. And while they may not be the same build quality as a ProVari, they are built well enough and perform well enough to extend the ROI of a Provari from a year to several years. And for some of us, it's not HOW much we spend, but how long to we have to spend before we see a savings. With a lower cost MVP or Sigelei, If I can extend my ROI to three or more years, I feel much better about the ability to change devices as better and better units become available, instead of worrying about how long it takes me to get my $225.00 worth out of a product that hasn't changed significantly in the last 4 years.

Jesus, man, you are writing some epic posts about what is wrong with the ProVari and it's users. Do you really care this much?

ROI? I am buying a PV, not planning a capital project....

Don't get one, it's fine. Really. There are lots and lots of other mods.

lollll :D

It's funny to read that the provari-thingy between vapers is still going further. I wonder why... I know it's a psychological thing that has a lot to do with it's price. But hey.... EVERYONE can buy a provari. It's even not a matter if you can affort it or not. There are 2 groups in the provari owners: those that could easily effort it and those that bought it and hurt themselfs with the price by going into red or waiting to pay some bills or blablabla.
So having a provari don't say a damn thing about you. And this also goes for when you don't have one.

And is the one thing better then the other thing?... no... personal desires or taste isn't discussable.
End of discussion :p

Provari is basically Apple in the vaping world.

Just saying... good quality, huge fanbase, alternatives with similar performance go for much cheaper. Oh, and in terms of innovation, they've fallen behind the pack, but it doesn't matter because they've made a "mini" version, and that sells too. Lawl.

I personally could care less what people spend their money on,,It's their money, it's their choice...Seems fair to me.

I do get tired of the fanboy attitude though. Those Provari/illuminati signature banners are tongue in cheek. You don't become part of some mysterious group that is remarkably more astute the minute you purchase a device, no matter how expensive it is.

My first few days on ECF I walked into the flames by innocently asking about VV / VW and the Provari. I thought it was a fair question and save for one or two senior members offering honest speculations, It ruffled many feathers.

For the sake of simple diversity I do hope Provape goes the route of Apple inc. and not R.I.M... Blackberry also had the market "Sewn up" several years ago. So much so that when a patent infringement case was decided against them the US justice Dept. threatened to get involved to prevent a shutdown of services ...Seems the whole U.S Government operated on Blackberrys at the time....Fast Forward a few years and things are radically different. Oddly enough the Blackberry crowd also Scoffed at calls for innovation. Why "Improve" something so perfect that the worlds most powerful people carry it everywhere they go?? Because innovation is the Swords edge and a dull edge never works out well....

As I said to begin with, Buy whatever you wish, It's your money...I wish you only the best.

Lastly let me add that It does bother me somewhat when someone like p.opus or any other poster for that matter, makes decent, honest points with an absence of malice(as I saw it) and gets multiple folk trying to dress him down for it...Seems cliquish to me. To be Clear, I'm not attacking anyone who has posted to this thread. I'm simply saying how this feels to me...A relative newcomer to the forums.

It is discouraging and disheartening that someone may call me a Troll if I post something funny and fairly benign about the device they choose to vape on.. Sometimes, the less eloquent posters among the crowd even come off as being Bullyish and that's unacceptable to me..That's not cool anyway you slice it.

I have two provaris and don't consider myself a snob or a fanboy. But I do love them. I like high quality, well made devices if I take them out of the house. I have dropped them head-high several times and they have held up insanely well. Sure, VW would be nice, but I know with one resistance read where to dial it in for my preferences. To some that's too much, and that's totally subjective. But a provari that could deliver VW and higher current would get more money from me in a heartbeat.

I don't have any problem at all with the single button UI or lack of ego cone threading. That's just me. In fact I like the UI. I thought I would hate it when I watched the reviews before buying, but surprisingly I really like it.

I owned an MVP just before I purchased a provari. Hated the form factor, and I was lucky to get a full day of charge (note that the provari mini in 18350 mode last me nearly a full day). When it does run out, I swap a battery... No need to tether or wait for a recharge. Simple. I didn't like the fact that if it broke, or the battery gave out, there was NO warranty or way to service it for a fee.

So the provari was a great fit for me. If there are any other high quality, warranties, serviceable mods out there with a similar track record, and small form factor, I'd jump all over them too. But I don't know of any... If there are others I'm all ears!

Just a note... Some have said "if I had spent that much on a mod I'd NEVER take it out of the house at risk of damaging it". IMO, this is exactly WHY a provari has appeal. Take it anywhere, it will put up with the abuse. And if it doesn't, it can be fixed. :)

Peace and vape on :)

Wizard Evolved<3333 Not made in the US though. There's also the Semovar, but I think it may be a little taller than the Provari, but you can swap tubes on the fly.

I was wondering... Why use "they hold their value" as a selling point? I mean if everyone loves them so much, why do they sell them? Is it to buy a new one? And if it's it to buy a new one, what was wrong with the old one to want to sell it? And if there was nothing wrong with the old one, why sell it to get a new one? If selling it to get a different MOD, doesn't that negate the argument of it being the best, buy selling it for something different?

I would think if that was the best, and a person had multiples, why would they want to sell the best backup they have and purchase something else?

Jesus, man, you are writing some epic posts about what is wrong with the ProVari and it's users. Do you really care this much?

Because this is a discussion forum...We discuss. We debate. We trade ideas. We even disagree. Hell, sometimes we play devils advocate just to watch the sparks fly and enjoy some :pop:. [EDIT: Found the popcorn smiley..all is right with the world...] But it's all good. At the end of the day, every day we vape is 20 less coffin nails we smoked.

You will never see me tell anyone NOT to buy a ProVari.....I take that back....If you are buying a ProVari merely as a backup to another ProVari, I think you are foolish. Now, if you are buying another ProVari Mini, or you like the paint job on a specific ProVari, then collect them like stamps. No worries. But if someone is buying a second ProVari to stick into a drawer collecting dust in case your primary ProVari fails....You need help.....

There was another thread in this forum where the OP asked about his $300.00 budget and I flat out told him it was hard NOT to recommend a ProVari. I even applauded his choice of Blue LED. They guy had the cash to spend and his equipment choices indicated that he would be very happy with a ProVari.

Of course being the shill that I am I had to offer the suggestion of an MVP 2 as a backup/out and about vape.

All I can tell anyone is my reasons for not buying one. They may not be valid to you or they may give you something to think about.

Even on meaningless "flame threads" you can get good information.

Baditude informed me why ProVape was sticking to the LED display instead of the sexier OLED displays seen on newer mods. That makes a ton of sense.

I guess my question is why do you care that I care.

Yes...I can be a blowhard, and post epic threads. That makes them all the easier to ignore.
