Two years ago (+) I got my first ecig, a dinky little 901. I put a half a pack of cigarettes in my desk drawer, along with my ladies gold scrolled Zippo lighter, and I NEVER TOUCHED THEM AGAIN. I ended up giving away 5-6 unopened packs of cigarettes. Not tooting my own horn, but I was a HEAVY smoker, 3 PaD for over 30 years, and unable to quit by ANY other method. Yay me! Ok, that was a small toot. LOL

I see posts here about "slipping". I CAN'T be the only one who managed to put the death sticks down on day one! Share your stories, people!

I did - but I don't talk much about it. People who have difference experiences, beat themselves up about it enough already. I don't want them to compare themselves to me. I wasn't trying to quite smoking, I just got an e-cig out of curiosity. Looking back, I think I was bored with smoking (40+ yrs) and needed a new toy. As soon as I got a good nic hit, I left the cigs behind.

I also still have a strong feeling for smokers. While some people think it's so cool to be able to vape where others can't smoke, I find it rude and insensitive. They seem to forget the "triggers" smoking has on people, like seeing someone smoking on TV or whatever and immediately wanting one. I think seeing the vapor can have the same effect on people who still smoke.

I still had my morning cig for 2 days after I started vaping, on day 2 I got about 3 drags into it and gagged. That was the last cigarette I touched. I think it may be easier for some, but if we eventually get off the cigs, hey its all good:)

@SlimXero------I am seriously in love with your tat. I want to get an ambigram that combines my kids names, I just haven't had the cash to do it. Glad to see someone else likes them too!

@Ashlee Foltz: It looked really good in that picture right after it was done, but now, over a year later, it direly needs to be refilled. The needles we got at that time from Canada were poorly gapped and as a result, it's full of holes, but as soon as I have the cash I'm getting it refilled. Thanks!

I don't remember the original website i used to generate the artwork, but this one is very close, and very good quality: http://www.flipscript.com/ambigram-generator.aspx

I quit the first day I got my vape setup. Never touched them again. I am proud of my success but realize that others are different. I don't think it is bad for me to say it loud and proud. Others may slip or continue to smoke cigs along with vaping. I don't look down on those folks nor do I think it a bad thing. Everyone is different and has to go through a different process to quit the cigs all together. As has been said many times before, the only cigs that count are those you don't smoke. :)

I never touched another cig since technically day 2 around noon, when i finished up the smokes I had on hand. I bought a disposable Blu late the night before and was using it some that night and intermittently that next day. I knew I would never need to buy more cigarettes. I just thought of it as switching brands. And, in a short while I realized I liked the flavor of ecigs a whole lot better than I ever liked the flavor of any cigarette.

I quit after 2 days. I had like 4 cigs the first day and my last one cig on the 2nd day at 9 p.m. but I was going through withdrawals because I started on too low a nic juice. But after that I never looked back or missed cigs. I actually was excited to get up in the morning and vape. It was enjoyable to me. I have on about 4 occasions in the past 15 months of vaping tried a cig for the hell of it and couldn't get past maybe 2 puffs. Sometimes I like to just remind myself I don't miss or need them. I know that sounds strange. But I do know everyone is different and some people just don't take to ecigs like I did. It's frustrating because I wish they would, but they don't. It's hard for me to understand but I know it's a personal walk, sort of like any other addiction.

Well, I've gone over 2 years without "slipping" after my quit date. I didn't quit day 1 though...I make sure these e-cig "things" were going to work 1st. lol. Paralleled a bit. Finished my last pack and... that was it. Diff strokes for diff folks.

It's OK to toot your horn a bit. You deserve it! Hang in there and congratulations!

I love these stories. My dad quit 33 years at what ended up as about two and a half packs a day. Its been over four years now with no look back and he has had so many noticible improvements. My girl quit and has been vaping for two years. I have been vaping for the same amount of time and have enjoyed the expos and social connect. Seeing the people i love doing much better is amazing.

All I can say is I admire anyone that can do what you have done. For some it's just harder then it is for others. Every one is different and that's what makes us humans. I will openly shake a persons hand that stops smoking and congratulate them. But remember "Don't just a person till you walk in their shoes". In closing Congrats on your success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!l Happy Vaping.

We don't have to slip. Some may need to. Not up to us. It's a daily decision. It's that way in every recovery program. Not slamming ones that do go out. No shame in going out only in not coming back.

Very well said sir!!!! Tip of the hat to you.

I just wish I knew 40 yrs ago what I do today.

I wish this had been around 40 years ago. I lost a few family members to smoking related illness, and even though an e-cig may or may not have saved their lives, it definitely would've made their remaining time easier and more comfortable.

Add me to that list! My father ultimately passed of the stress of lung cancer surgery, heart surgery to replace a bad valve, and the resultant stress of the medications that kept him on his feet for the last five years (to a greater or lesser extent).

When Mom and I switched, one of our first statements was, "If your father had this, he might have survived a few more years and been in better shape."
