I guess I'm not much for tinkering anymore........

Well, I generally analyze the crap out of just about everything, even if there is nothing to analyze......

For example, being an electronics tech, I like modifying electronics to my liking depending on parts availability and effect.

I just recently completed the conversion of an engine in my 85 S-10 pickup. When I bought it, it had a worn out 2.8l carbureted engine.

I then replaced the 2 barrel carbureted 2.8l with a 3.4l and threw a 4 barrel 390 cfm Holley on top. Well, after a few months, I got tired of what seemed to be constant tweaking of the carburetor due to temp changes and what not.

So then, I decided to convert it to throttle body injection. Well, instead of constantly trying to tweak it by mixture screws and timing, I now use a laptop to monitor the engine sensors and if I need to tweak anything, I just reprogram the PROM in the ecm.

Easy peasy.....

Well, how does this relate to vaping?

See, I decided to kill the smoking habit and went and bought a joyetech Ego-T setup with a couple of Vivi Minin Nova heads. I liked what I had.

Then I started reading this board. Got a Protank. Did not like it. Then got an AGA-T2. Don't quite care for that either. Played with 30g kanthal and different resistance values. Still no "awestruck moments".

Maybe my tastes and smells are still screwy.

But I find the exact size diameter bit to wrap a 32g coils for the nova 2.8 heads and am using 30 strands of cheesecloth for wick. It seems to work for me.

How does this relate to the laptop and ECM programming? Well, my memory sucks and for each little tweak with this stuff, there isn't hard data to look back at for it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tried experimenting and just ended up going back to what we started with.

I will say that I am interested in the Protank 2 though.

What say you?

Functionally, I wouldn't expect the Protank 2 to perform significantly any differently than the Protank 1 ...they use the same coil heads, and have -to my knowledge- the same airflow dynamics.

Experimenting with coils - wire gauges, resistance values, wicking materials - to effectually rate juice delivery systems is only going to get you so far when you are using a fixed and regulated 3.7v device. In order to do what you are attempting to do properly, you really need a variable voltage device. You would be surprised how even a simple .2 increase/decrease in voltage will drastically change the flavor of a juice due to any number of build variables in a tank system - airflow, air tube, size, shape, placement and size of the coil well, etc. It's not uncommon to see some tank systems function better at higher ohms/voltages which you can never reach.

On the other hand, if you are happy with your results on the Viva Nova Minis on the eGO T ...don't fix what ain't broken. :D

Your attention to detail suggests that starting a "huge" spreadsheet is in order. Keep track of every variation you try and how successful it is with regards to your own personal preferences. It's kinda like DIY where you really have to keep track of every ml if you ever want to replicate the process.

Besides, large multi-colored spreadsheets are lots of fun to play with and you can dumbfound your friends with the details and it won't be any kind of proof of any OCD or anything.....

1) Welcome
2) It's all moot unless you can control the juice variable too. Even then...it's all subjective. Particularly since you'll change juice or at least batches of juice.
3) Dial it up or dial it down to tweak. Just like a stove burner. That's not to say different configs won't give differing results, but rather that you tweak the final result subjectively.
