Do I NEED to upgrade? No. It's not a need for me. Do I WANT to try out new stuff, fiddle around, and experiment? Absolutely. I find vaping to be a manageable hobby. It took the place of cigarettes (thank god), and, as a hobby, has become a pastime for me when I have an hour here, or an hour there, to sit down and clear my mind. Most of those times are spent rebuilding things, or trying out new methods to get the "perfect vape". That's why I "upgraded" from my eGo gear.

I have a handful of mechs, some rebuildable atties, a couple protanks that I'm constantly rebuilding, etc. BUT, I also have a handful of Spinners and EVODs that I use when I'm out doing "stuff" (fishing, gardening, working on the house, golfing, etc.). They're practically set-it-and-forget-it. That's why I still like them, and still use them. They vape, and vape well. They're not dual-coil rda type vapor, but they get the job done just fine.

For me, I had a little disposable CE4 once that gave me a more complex, flavorful, layered, full vape than I could have really imagined - after trying quite a few tanks. Instantly, I thought "to hell with anything else, if this is what works, it works." Yet with buying more CE4's, and some CE5 replaceable head ones, absolutely none of them worked in the same way, half them tasting burnt right on the spot.

For me, it's simply been trying to find a decent vape that's simple, yet works from head to head, at least for say, 4 out of 5 heads. I can deal with a dud every now and then, it's just the price to pay. I can't deal with 1 out of 10 or more. That's simply insane and I couldn't ever do it or afford it.

The Evod is one of the few big name devices I haven't tried, and many report them being very good. In times like this, I simply wish I had a local vaping buddy with those types of goods. Less money, and I can't go out and buy everything that sounds good on a whim. I decided it's time to rebuild until I have enough money to risk trying simple things again. It's really the simple devices that I want to work the most - for me, physically speaking, I'd like nothing more than a 650mah 3.7V battery, or even a cig-alike auto battery, with a little micro-CE1 or whatever it's called on the end. Physically speaking.

But getting a working vape? Where as simple of a wish is tasting strawberry if the juice is supposed to be strawberry? It's been impossible...

I had my absolute most favorite set up...the smok sid in hot pink and a "friend" stole it.....I am so ...... I can't afford to replace the entire set up since hubby has been laid off. I am using a passthrough that works OK not the best but my main is the spinner vv with a kanger protank 2 and I love it...I miss my smok and one day will get another just can't afford it for a while....<cry>

I'm not, but I just wasn't satisfied with the vape from non VV devices (and even my Twists weren't all that great in my opinion). My husband, on the other hand, preferred his V2 cig-alikes. He hasn't really used my MVP 2.0, or my SVD very much, so maybe his opinion will change if he ever picks up vaping again. But, last time we talked about it, he had tried a Twist that I kept lending him, and he preferred one flavor of pre-filled cartos on those cig-alikes over everything else. I don't see a problem with that, other than the cost (because those pre-filled cartos are really expensive). Whatever works for you is fantastic, and that's all that matters. If a regular ego battery is what you love, that's great and you should stick with it.

I've seen your gear and you could go higher.

(I realize this could be taken out of context. Don't. He's not that attractive.)

I wasnt going to say, but you pushed....and you do know what I vape.

I am vaping a Semovar with a Kayfun with the hybrid adapter.......ProVari Back ups......MVP back up for the other two. A higher level? I dont know what that may be. If its out there, I will find it. Please let me know. (The Semovar can convert to a Mech also if you didnt know....parts avail next quarter from SvoeMesto, which makes it the most versatile Mod sold on the planet.

Ego's and associated toppers...not for me but they certainly were for a long time. They got almost all of us off the cigs and are very convenient. I hava a daughter that will vape nothing else while out and about due to the size and light weight. Ego's are the heart and soul of the vaping world.

I have my original egos primarily as spares, but when I whipped them out recently I was surprised by how well they performed. Still happier with my vw mods due to the possibility for control they provide (plus plenty of buttons to press, I like buttons). I also recently tried one of my original ce4s. They tend to leak, and I like my evods and various glassomizers better, but it's not a night and day kind of difference (haven't yet tried advanced rebuildables). I guess my main reason to get more advanced stuff is that I like new toys, although I do tend to come up with all sorts of great excuses as to why I need new toys :) I may have kicked the smoking habit, and don't seem to be nearly as badly addicted to nicotine anymore, but I'm sitting here chewing my fingernails due to having promised myself to not order anything new before next year (and I got my last vapemail on Tuesday) :)

I'm so glad I read this post. I've been vaping for 6 months now and kept feeling that I had to go "bigger and better." I rotate 2 MVP's at home and use my Twists when I'm out. That works great for me since I feel that the MVP is a lil' large for public use and bulky to carry. (For a lady anyway, imho) I've got back ups for my back ups, so I'm good to go. I'm going to stop buying any more shiny stuff and just concentrate on my DIY.

    Jones', who are the Jones'???

I have an eGo style battery w/pass through, and an Evod tank.

    I'm happy with it.

It takes up next to no space, rather than a huge, clunky, (to me) awkward looking mod. I can throw it in my pocket or Random Stuff Holder in the center console of my car. The whole thing cost $30, I won't cry if it breaks or I lose it. And if I DO lose it or break it, I can walk into about any smoke shop and pick up the exact same gear.

Is it the best? Well, define best, I guess. For me, I think so. I can pick it up and vape. Maybe switch out a coil if I need to. I don't need to spend epochs fiddling with wires and wick material. I didn't do that with cigarettes, and I don't want to do it when I vape, either. Some people love the tinkering. I myself, don't. (FYI, I also tried rolling my own cigs for a while, and hated that too. Curious if the tinkerers were also rollers when they smoked) I wasn't always searching for the best lighter on the market, or the newest cigarette technology. Again, to me, that doesn't make sense to do when I vape. I do see the appeal of doing it, it just doesn't appeal to ME.

Everybody is saying "famous last words". I... really don't think so. I can't say no for sure, but I can't see what would make me upgrade. I also hear a lot of "You should at least get a VV". I HAD a VV. My first battery was a Twist, and I was wholly unimpressed. For one thing, it didn't seem to matter what voltage I vaped at. I didn't ever notice an appreciable difference in taste or amount of vapor, except if I turned it up past like 3.8, everything I vaped, burned. Yeah, that was money well spent on THAT battery. And then it disintegrated 3 months after I bought it. The ring that holds the power button just came off. The whole thing fell apart. It was never dropped or mistreated, either.

Sure, I could just think I "have it good" because I've never tried much else.

I get some "Oh... you're still using THAT??" like there's something wrong with me.

Is anyone else still using "basic" equipment and happy with it?

Sure, I use all my gear in rotation of flavors, and I use my starter twists in the car, for the same reasons you listed. It all works, so I use it.

This is all about NOT SMOKING, with an added benefit of "toys!" for some of us. Don't sweat it - if you found a place you like, and it's helping you not smoke, you WIN. :)

I only use V2 cigalikes and have for the 2 years I've vaped. Well that and my pass thru when I'm tethered to my desktop. I've tried some sort of tank thingy and found it too clunky. I too don't see me upgrading anytime soon. But I do think if I'm vaping in another year or two, I'll possibly upgrade. When exactly, with what exactly, and how much will I be willing to spend exactly - are all currently unknown to me, and that's perfectly okay for me in this moment. I like my equipment and much rather focus on exploring juice than gear.

As my stats in sidebar say, I joined ECF in Jan. 2013, but thought about joining a good 6 to 9 months earlier. One of the reasons I didn't join earlier is cause I though ECF people (all of you) would laugh at us who feel satisfied with such basic gear and use your enormous powers of peer pressure to force me to get better gear. I've since learned that is not remotely the case, and this thread makes that abundantly clear.

I sill love my egos. I still use my first start up kit. 2 ego T upgrades, as they are called. (An ego Upgrade is semi-variable, You can use it low or higher, 2 settings) I have twists and my new thing is a vision 1300 spinner.

My thing is that I usually keep my batteries at a set point and don't often change that much. I don't need a readout with umpzillion settings. I don't feel the need for a larger device.

    Still lov'in my simple egos.

And in another year or two, the industry would have advanced to a point you would have skipped alot of expense that other people are going through.
