Hi guys! :)
I was thinking about getting an eVic head and a Greekvapes bOd. I had considered getting the eVic kit, but I would never use the batts. I was wondering about a couple of things:
First, is the usb data cable the same as the garden variety usb cables that are out there? I have two brand new (garden variety) Usb cables that I would rather use if possible. Is the eVic usb cable special somehow? if so, I'll spring the cash for it (they're cheap).
I am assuming I can just go to joyetech and download the MVR software? (since I won't be getting the kit and whatever else comes with it).
I also have a Win8 machine. Are there any special issues that people are encountering with MVR and Win8?

Not the same as a mini USB but the same as the USB cables used on Android phones.
Incidentally the Copycat list may be a good thing but there isn't such a thing as a counterfeit Evic - not yet anyway.

It really comes down to preference. Personally I like the size and the weight of the evic (yes the weight). I don't believe that a mod has to be as heavy as tire iron to be considered quality. For an 18650 mod it is quiet discreet. Smaller and lighter works for me, especially since im on the go. 2 months,3 drops, and still seems solid. Now that I said my piece, we can get on with the "My mod is bigger than yours" thread.

Weight is not what qualifies for quality, how it's made and the components makes it quality. The eVic has only been on the market for aa short time, too early to tell whether it's a quality device or not. Time will tell, ignorance and enthusiasm does not. Sorry if I sound abrupt.

BTW, I own a eVic, but I earnestly can not, and will not give my personal opinion until I've owned it for a year, and it still holds up. THEN can one give a true rationalization as to quality.

Many people talk bad about the eVic but the truth is that most of the problems are caused by the same owners for mishandling or abuse give their eVic's ,I for example had a problem of condensation on the screen thing if not my fault of what I will talk some other time ,but my 3 year old son dropped the evic of the bed to the floor and the top of the head (510 connection) broke off, which happened already others who dropped their evic, fortunately the cables soldiers from the connection to the circuitry is not broke, then I dry the condensation and with a bit of epoxy leave everything as new,but all that happened due to mishandling of the device , and now the evic is like straight out of the box and running at 100%.
I hope it does not happen again, but if so I can not blame Joyetech and say that their product is bad if I did not care and let it fall to the ground, the same would happen to my iPhone if I let fall.
Well said all of that seems to me one of the best mod's, and if I were to buy another mod because my eVic died, I'd buy another eVic.

have a good vaping

In spite of the appearance, this is not a rant. As a simple point of fact, I have been very happily using my Provari for almost a year now. It has never faltered in the slightest. And, other than the fading logo, looks and works like new. It has been my rock! That said, my Provari is now serving as backup to an Evic.

I know I'm not the first to state this but want to clarify why in hopes that Provape is listening. Until now, I have been a staunch supporter of the UI on Provaris and everything else about them. One button, and not at all difficult to learn or use. The very best materials, finely crafted. VV has been a great feature for all of the obvious reasons. I have watched the emergence of VW from a distance, but resisted as it and of itself, did not motivate me to abandon my rock. When version 1.0 Evic appeared, my opinion began to change. When version 1.2 was released, displaying everything I wanted to know about in one button click (voltage, wattage, ohms, and battery state) in one button press, I could no longer resist. Do you know how many button presses that takes on a Provari, not to mention that VW isn't even available? The ability to provide even more functionality and fix bugs through firmware upgrades positions Evic in an entirely new category of PV. Yes, I acknowledge that the Evic is not built to the same physical standards as a Provari. But, other than the control head, it's modular design is proving that it can easily be made or upgraded to the Provari level.

While Provape has well established itself at the top in the customer service realm (Provari's are not designed to be disposable like everything else), the cost of replacing an Evic control head is not that objectionable, and to me, seems to answer Provape's service proposition. I have no doubt that Provape has the technical expertise to respond to Joyetech, but am dumbfounded that they haven't. I have even read from others here, supposedly in the know, that Provape doesn't even intend to add a VW feature, much less address the information display the Evic provides. I sincerely hope they are wrong.

Provape, please show us that you do not intend to stop innovating. Bring us yet another generation of PV's with the same solid underpinnings of your past products that address both current and future evolutions in vaping. That is what we, your customers, expect from you. I pray your marketing department lives by the "innovate or perish" axiom that all other successful technology companies have learned to embrace. Until then, I suspect I will continue to use the excellent Evic as my go to PV .

Noob question... I didn't see it on their website for the eVic. But does it measure/calculate the Ohmz on the atomizer? and what is the lowest resistance you can put on it

Well it calculates Voltage and Wattage based on the resistance. It's plus/minus .1-.2 in my experience but it will not fire any atomizer under 1.0 ohms, similar to the Provari.

Oh ok, but does it show what resistance you have on the coil? like how the Zmax/provari (i think) does when you plug in the atomizer, it shows the resistance of the atty.

I received my eVic about 3 weeks ago, so this is just first impressions from a noob and his first apv. I wanted a relatively inexpensive way to "experiment" with vv, vw and resistance tests. I realize that it may not be the most accurate to this point, but like the possibilities it may still have in store for us. Because it is in my nature to mess with stuff this was a perfect next step for me after using twists to start with. I have a sigelei mechanical on order and can only imagine that my journey is just beginning, and that before to long I will have a wide array of devices to suit my every mood.
That being said... I have not had a negative experience with my eVic so far. I agree with Flintlock that it will take more time to make a fair overall assessment of this device, but with v1.2 installed at time of delivery all I really had to do was turn it on and go.
I completely understand the concerns about durability, and have enjoyed some of the comparisons that have been made. I definitely equate this to the care I use for my other portable electronics (cell, iPod, iPad, etc.) and I try to remain conscious of them and to treat them as if they may break if not cared for. it hasn't stopped me from using all of those without some sort of military grade, shock resistant casing and it never will. And most likely if I break any of them it will be my fault
