I am truly baffled by my own behavior. I had to sit down and think about what was going on when I started vaping and where I've gone from there. Right now I feel as though I'm struggling like a person caught in quicksand.

When I first started vaping, I was amazed that I cut down so much on the smoking. The first week it was down to three packs for the week, and I had been smoking 2 sometimes 3 packs a day. Then probably three weeks into it, I got lethargic and somewhat depressed. That is when I checked into the WTA. I tried that, and things seemed to get back on track. Then I started having equipment problems. I let that stress me to the max, and even though I had gone for about 7 days without a cigarette, I HAD to have one. I bought a pack.

It's been downhill from there. I've been smoking now about a pack every 3 days. I DO NOT want to do this, but here I am doing it again. I think I have the equipment problems licked. Now I've been sitting down and thinking about how I want my vaping experience to be. I'm out of WTA and hesitate to order now with the Christmas mail being a hot mess. The only thing I have found just recently that has seemed to help is using a juice that is tobacco flavored. Plus I seem to like a strong throat hit.

I've only been at this a little over two months. Am I asking too much of myself?

I don't think that sounds unusual; the first few months are a bit of a ride; and equipment problems are one of those things that happen in the first few months that send you on a tailspin; that's why it's often said around here - "get backups; and backups for your backups".

And first chance you get, pick up an rda and some 30 or 32 gauge kanthal; think of it as buying a bicycle while you're really looking for a car; you get your independence and if anything goes wrong it's easy to figure out.

The people on this forum are amazing and very helpful.

Take what they say to heart. The more you stress over where you think you should be at, compared to where you are, that just adds to your stress factor. Relax. Deep breath.

Order your WTA. Better to have it on its way instead of not at all.

Vent/ask for support/talk about what you are going through....all can be done here. Many have gone through exactly what you are right now in your journey. We are here for you. :)

I have to agree with what people have already said on here. Like you i not totally quit the analogues as they known in the vaping community. I am still down though to what i used to smoke a day. Currently at 5 a day sometimes it's hard ie stress and the time of the year.

You shouldn't be too hard on yourself everyone is on a different journey.

Roto, don't beat yourself up! Have a cigarette if you need it, as others have said there's absolutely no timeline. We've all been smoking for so long that it is such a different journey for everyone. Keep your head up and try to resolve your equipment troubles with the help of these awesome members here.

I myself broke down last week as my tank was being so finicky, had 2 cigs. In all honestly I was about to just throw it all in a drawer and take out the half carton I still have from a few weeks ago. But I browsed around here and somewhat solved my problems; and also bought a spare tank.

Good luck and take it easy :)

It took me 2 months. 35 year smoking habit. Even 7 months without smoking, I still think about it sometimes.

Newbie equipment issues are very frustrating. Smoking is so much easier, that's for sure. Cigarettes and a lighter and I was in business :)

Getting the hang of it all helps. Having 2 or 3 setups helps, especially when you're away from home. Nothing like a coil going bad or a leak and having no nic fix to frustrate the heck out of you. So is finding e liquid you enjoy.

I think I might have quit sooner if I had had better equipment and 24mg juice.

Lots of people have problems quitting cold turkey. I went from 2 PAD to 6 cigs a day the first week I vaped, but I kept on having one after every meal and a couple with coffee for two more years. One day, I decided to quit those last few and it was a piece of cake.

Taper down and it's easier to quit tobacco and just vape. It doesn't matter if you slip during the process as long as you keep your eyes on the target (quitting tobacco).

Keep a pack of cigs around.

Have one when you feel the need.

But.

Keep vaping.

I kept a pack of smokes around for ages.

I'd smoke them now and then. When I ran out, I'd buy another pack.

But I kept vaping.

Eventually, I got to the end of a pack and didn't replace it.

That'll be coming up on Three Years ago, this coming Spring.

45 Years of smoking 2-3 packs a day. Gone gone gone.

Just keep vaping.

You are doing absolutely assume! Took me 5 or 6 months to stop. Just think how many you have not smoked. Don't put the pressure on yourself. I was a long time smoker of 42 years. I will likely battle addiction the rest of my life. Less you smoke the more they will start to taste really bad like licking an ashtray. It will happen and we don't have a time clock on you. CHEERS!

The more you don't smoke, the quicker they will start to smell nasty. It will be lots easier to give up the last few once you admit that it's a nasty habit.

Not everyone got into gaping to totally quit, I think majority of us are sick of the increasing cost of tobbaco.jW has it the nail on the head keep gaping no matter what. It can be stressful this time of the year and no one is going to pressure you on here to go totally cold turkey. Take your time and do what you need to do.

I got some really good advice from an old friend a couple of weeks ago--he told me to go on line and look up vaping.

"Don't even think about guittin cigaretts and don't think about saving any money"

He told me "Get some good equipment--think of it like fishing tackle--you're always buying that shiny stuff and you never worry about what it costs.Put it in your pocket and carry it around with ya. Use it when you think of it--and you will find you are smokeing less."

I'm down to about 5 a day--I cain't hardly believe it and people who know me think its a d--m mireacle

2 packs a day for 40 years--down to 5 per day--This has some serious implications for tax revenue so I'm sure the gov't is going to outlaw this pretty quickly!

To the original poster keep coming here you get the best advice. Nothing really negative can come out of vaping. It just depends what you want from it ? Everyone is on different journeys, everybody wants different results from it. Everyone started vaping for different reasons. There's right or wrongs regards vaping as everyone is different. Is it wrong to want a analogue while vaping, I been told it's not. If you cut down then yes we all are being successful in some shape or form. I started smoking when I was 17 I'm now 46. For the people that have quit totally while vaping well done! I'm still duel fueling but I have cut down like so many on here, but I still get the urge to smoke and that's probably down to me being a menthol smoker.

Regarding equipment that's a journey in it's own. I started out with a Ego starter kit, a Evod, pro tank 3 which has now developed a crack in it. I got a Aspire Mini Nova and a Pro Tank 3 Mini. The best by far though is the Aspire Nautilus for me anyway on a Vamo 6. You can spend a lot of money on vaping I realized that. But for me part of the deal getting started on vaping was to cut down and save money. Ciggerettes are very expensive in the UK and I just wanted to cut down. Of course the problem is not regressing back to your old self. It's not easy and I crept back up in numbers regards cigerrettes but still small numbers compared to what I was smoking 20 - 25 a day.

Y'all, I literally had tears welling up in my eyes reading this thread. I thank each and every one of you for being SO supportive. I struggled with myself for 5 days before posting this. I've always been my own worst enemy. I smoked for about 43 years. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of being a slave to it. I've seen my health deteriorate because of it.

This community is amazing, and I am SO doggone thankful to be able to participate here. The only thing I want to give up is the cigarettes. I have backups. to backups and coils, so equipment wise, I'm going to be all right. I may up the nicotine some. I'm now at 18, but YES, this time of year is stressful as hell especially since my work schedule suddenly went from normal to I may be working just about every day until Christmas, and I'm not even in retail!!!

I cannot thank you ALL enough!!

Look at my join date and look at my post count. See something funny?

I tried vaping four years ago and despite joining this forum completely failed at it. Put my supplies away, went back to smoking, and didn't even thing about it for a long time. Then when I decided to quit smoking late last year I tried the patch.

...failed

I tried the gum.

...failed

I tried the inhaler.

...failed

Through it all I'd occasionally try an njoy or other cigalike and always just tossed them as no good. Finally started seeing people walking around with cleros and the like and decided to walk into a vape shop. Walked out with an MVP 2.0 and an iClear 30...haven't looked back and didn't even finish the pack I was on. It also helped that I was on vacation at the time so I had a zero stress environment with no triggers to make the transition easier.

My point is that it's ok to fail. For me I just had to wait til the tech caught up but I really tried and went through all those options before finding something that worked. Keep at it alright, go to a vape shop and let them know exactly what you're looking for.

I'm from Louisiana myself, I know our culture and smoking is a big part of it. You might be around other smokers so try to remove yourself from that situation if you can, the triggers are everywhere.

Congratulations on getting to this point! Since every person has a different experience with vaping and quitting cigs, you'll ultimately have to find out what works best for you. Strong flavors worked for me, variable power sure was nice. Chain vaping during bad cravings really helped. Do you truly enjoy the flavors you have tried? Finding that perfect all day vape flavor has made me truly confident that I won't be back to cigs.

Rotowoman,
To my mind, you are already free. It may not feel like that to you now, but it's just a matter of time. I can see it and hopefully you will too when the stress subsides (what a nasty work schedule!).

You've come so far in 2 months. You've made up your mind to quit, you are doing it for you and it means so much. With that success and motivation I know you will kick the monster to the curb. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but whenever - that's ok. We mean it when we say count the cigarettes you don't smoke. Those are the important ones. Each time you vape instead of smoking, you are closer to your goal. If you're stressed, and you can, vape like crazy! It feels good when you make a conscious decision to vape instead of smoking and making that choice gets easier over time.

However if you want a cigarette, or aren't in a place you can vape, go ahead and smoke without guilt. Some are harder to give up than others - with the morning coffee, after a meal, when you're stressed etc. Over time, you can work on these. For me, coffee with a vape of blackberry crumble or cinnamon danish is a nice calorie free way to start the day. That's one down! I like dessert vapes too and they are nice after dinner. That was two down! You'll find what works for you over time and by experimenting.

Whatever you do -- don't beat yourself up! I'm sad that you waited 5 days to post. I can only imagine how difficult those days were for you. Some of us tend to be hard on ourselves (looks in mirror). Focus on the positive - are you smoking less? does that feel good? Do not listen to the monkey on your shoulder that tries to tell you that you should be doing more. Tell that monkey where to stuff it! You're going to do this your way. You are doing well and you will get to be smoke free in your own time. You go girl!

Took me a long time to truly quit.
The more you cut down, the better you are doing.
Then one day, you will light one up, and it will reek.
You'll feel like you are sucking on an exhaust pipe.
You're doing good.
From 3 packs a day....I think you'd have to drip 24mg on a mech wrapped for .15 ohm to get a nic fit under control :)
