A PV these days really is two separate pieces: the
cartomizer (or atomizer) and the
battery that you power it with. Often they are sold separately.
Cartomizer:
Since you don't want "to direct drip every 10 min," I recommend cartomizer rather than atomizer. You
could go with an atty/tank combination, but I believe that more vapers are happy with the today's best cartomizers than with the tanks. [Kurt and I certainly are.] And, unless you get a high or variable voltage mod for your battery,
LR cartomizers are what will provide you the "insane throat hit" and "tons of vaper." ["good flavor" is primarily an attribute of the e-liquid.]
Kurt has recommended one of today's two most popular 510-compatible LR cartomizers: the Boge 2.0 ohm. It certainly is excellent, but I prefer the
Smok Tech Mega Dual Coil (also available for a very good price from
LiteCigUSA.] pbusardo (who loves them both) has done an excellent
comparative review of these two cartomizers.
Also – although it is not nearly as popular – I love the
801 cartomizer (which I use with a $1 510-to-801 adapter from
Good Prophets on 510-compatible batteries). To me, it provides the best flavor, although the Smok Tech is a close second.
Vapor Junction sells the EastMall version and
LiteCigUSA sells the Boge version. Both are excellent and available in regular resistance or LR.
Battery:
Oodles of choices! Your first decision is:
fat batt or
mod. Fat batts are more slender and the initial purchase price usually is less. [The cost of replacement batteries is greater, but it would take quite some time for that to pay off with a mod investment.] Many have the same mAh and voltage of many of the mods. Some mods (e.g., with 18650 or 26650 batteries) have
very high mAh (2000-4000). Some are 5V or 6V or even variable voltage.
Kurt has provided you some great fat batt and mod recommendations and I personally can vouch for most of them.
If bang-for-the-buck is a factor for you, I think that Liberty-Flights'
Riva-510 "Lite Bundle" for $30 is a great deal. [Click on the "20% Discount" icon in the upper left of the screen first, to see that price.] BTW, the Riva is
750 mAh and I
believe that the batteries in that kit now also are 3.7V (not only those in the "Special Edition"). For even more time between battery charges, the 1100 mAh KGO ($40 from
BreezEsmokes) is indeed a good low-cost choice. [Since I wanted it in chrome, I paid $5 more and got mine from
Hoosier E-Cig Supply.]
If cost is not a pressing concern, the Joye eGo remains the highest quality fat batt available.
Liberty-Flights sells the 650 mAh version ("Standard Bundle") for $40. BreezEsmokes sells the
1000 mAh version for $50. The eGo is only 3.2V, but that is just fine with LR cartomizers ... and it enables the use of certain accessories, e.g., the brand new Ego Booster, which I beta tested and just
reviewed. It turns the eGo (and only the eGo) into a variable voltage device, enabling you to get that TH and vapor from
any atomizer or cartomizer (not only LR) you put on it. It's expensive: $60, available only from
Happy Vaper. If you think this is something you might want to purchase and use in the future then give serious consideration to spending the extra $10 now for the Joye eGo.
The world of mods is so vast, it is difficult to make a recommendation. You could start your exploration with my
Mods Buyers Guide to get ideas. Kurt has recommended one of the least expensive (but still very high quality): the NoEgo:
14500/14650 (900/1050 mAh) or
18650 (2200+ mAh) versions. They are eGo-shaped (but larger), 3.7V, and work wonderfully with LR cartomizers. I own and love both. But – since you probably do not yet have the batteries or charger – the virtually identical e-Powers would be more convenient purchases.
BreezEsmokes sells both the 14650 and 18650 versions.
