David,

I emailed Super-T about a hot button issue I'd been having, well pretty much since I got my ELA. They told me my button was dirty (which is not the case) and to sand the inside with 400 grit.

To be honest I felt the response was kinda lame and was disappointed.

I mean I can just use my satburn switch but can't you guys come up with something besides telling my to sand my ELA switch.

I said that due to the fact it is often the case (that the button just needs cleaning and the bottom cap it passes through needs cleaning on the inside as the super t button grounds through friction in this area). Subohm coils are essentially a short in of them selves and having increased resistance due to poor connection increases the heat factor even more, it's why I recommended cleaning. No one was trying to blow you off or be lame, rest assured we were trying to help.

The Satburn button is identical in design and function to the Super T one and even reuses your spring, it only differs in looks. It is dual grounding just as the super-t is and grounds through the spring and friction, so any problems you have with the stock Super T button, you will have with the Satburn (at least once it builds up corrosion too).

Another thing you can do is take an HD and regular spring and intertwine them and run dual springs, this will up the amperage carrying capacity of the button (add one washer to your button post too).

Also be sure that the aluminum band inside the lock ring is corrosion free.

Well I respect what you're saying, and I totally get that. It is common among all SS mods with the plunger/spring mech button. It's just that it seems like my ELA button needs to be cleaned way more often my others. I've never gotten "shocked" so badly from a mod using 490's either.

My basic understanding of a hot button is (providing withing limits of battery CCR) whatever part is heating up has built up resistance and heats up with the coil.

I guess what I'm trying to say is there are probably three main contributors: material, fitment and surface area. It isn't the fit, I'll tell you that. Measuring my beveled bottom cap and button there is between one and two thousandths button play across the diameters. I mean every part of this thing is machined flawlessly.

I isn't the aluminum band, Al is a pretty good conductor anyways and that part isn't heating up.

So, can we get upgrades :):):) I wasn't able to get one of the brass buttons. Maybe copper plated brass:) I know your busy. I just want something made by Super-T that's not SS, so I can sub my Strata.

Not to take anything away for the satburn button but, the finish is not as crisp and it is machined very well but not as well as my ELA parts.

MattyB,

I run 0.49-0.55ohm coil builds on my ELA all the time and with the stock spring and button. Only time I ever feel it heat up is when I get some fodder around the button and inside the button housing. I just clean it off with my t-shirt and its all good again! Hope that helps.

I set up my P+ Strata this morning. Dual long hemispherical coils, each 6 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal over 2mm OD Ekowool, approximately .4 total ohms. It was very easy to build. It's also a stupendous vape, though I needed to back off from it with a Tanbur! Most certainly the hugest clouds I've ever produced, the throat hit is just where I like it (with the Tanbur :) ) and the flavor and draw is of course amazing.

For my tastes it's too much though, not being used to or desiring that much power. If I make a similar build in the future I'll shoot for more tameness. :)

Cool! Would love to see a pic of the setup, I'm having trouble picturing it.
It looks a lot like basilray's in the build thread. I'll see if I can get a picture though.

Edit: Nothing fancy.

Oh, and now it dawned on me why you couldn't picture it. I meant semicircular, not hemispherical. :p

Dammit...I WAS picturing hemispherical...like an ophion coil bent so it goes from deck edge and curves up and inward toward the center post....

You let us down...:p

You should make it and dub it the hemi...

I received shipping notification this morning @ 2am (1am Super-t time). Seems like someone is working late to get them out, and it's appreciated. I can't wait to get the Trident v2 (my only quality dripper) off my Simplicity, and start with the Strata. (The Trident will get use on the DNA mod I've been putting together.

I've been too busy, too lazy, and let's face it just too unimaginative to experiment with any crazy builds. I will still say this is pretty much the perfect experience for my style. I hate fiddling with tanks but I hate dripping every 3 minutes. Strata is the perfect compromise for me. Still looking forward to my ELA version.

I told David that I am considering getting a Strata. I've been dripping into standard 801 atomizers, and more recently, 510s, for the past five years. I've seen atomizer quality decline over that time and, what previously would last me 3-4 weeks (frequently longer) I'm now lucky to get a few days on each atomizer.

I dislike fussing and fiddling with stuff. Quality and ease-of-use sit at the top of my list for anything I purchase or own. I do understand that the Strata is an advanced user's device, but I believe that with practice, I can manage. I do wish that David lived closer, though.;)

LadyMaMa! So nice to see you again! I totally know what you mean. I've even tried to revive the 306 atty and no dice. They're all terrible! Going this route would not only yield a learning curve, but also a fantastic vaping experience once you "get it"!

Hope all is well with you!

LadyMaMa nice to hear from you... I am a direct dripper of 4 1/2 years... Have you ever tried the HH357 Custom atomizers? Best disposable dripping atty available... Get the Custom ones so you can specify your juice blend..the long barrels are the best as the added length keeps juice from entering your drip tip should you over drip... They not only have great flavor/performance but they last for a couple of months.. I usually replace mine every 4-6 weeks (even though they still fire) nothing like a fresh coil.. For me @ $25 its a small price to pay for a disposable atty that really rocks :vapor:!
P.S. I do have a Strata on order also ;)

Riverboat,
No, I haven't tried the HH357s yet. I'll send in an order today. The long barrels are in stock. Limit of three, but if they last 4-6 weeks, I'm more than good with that. Thanks so much for the headsup!
Do you run a Kick2? If so the 3.0 ohm HH's work the best... Now as far as your juice the standard HH's are setup for a 50%PG/50%VG blend.. I use 100% VG so I order the custom HH's so I can chose that option.. Hanna sets the wicks up differently for all VG or all PG... If you order the customs they do take about 10-12 days as they are built to order... Most HH's last alot longer then 4-6 weeks but as the coil ages resistance drops and flavor/performance can suffer when compared to a fresh one.....

...and direct dripping rules. :D
You know it does ;)
