Well, I would be tempted to order for my ELA - but it a FAR overpriced. I do love my ELA though.

Going to argue the overpriced issue with you...given the actual machining time, and the finishing time and the attention to detail to make sure everything works correctly and the threads are smooth as butter...oh and the freaking lifetime warranty......it's really a fair price...

I've had my precise for 3 years...I'm sure I've spent more on replaceable atties and tanks in that time than $140 and I'm certain this will last at least another 3 years what with the warranty and all...

Now you want to talk overpriced for what you get.....there's a certain product line out of Greece I could show you...

You get what you pay for. Dave's stuff is built in a classification all on its own. There are products with insane mark ups and quality control issues, quite a few in fact. quality over quantity. You want a nice mod, pay for it and kick back and relax. It's hard to wait for something you shelled out a boat load of money for, but you will get it will be sweet. The strata on all accounts is expensive, there is no question about it. However it's the beginning of something grand. I have an obsession with smart phones and tend to get one each year. It's expensive and stupid because something better is just around the corner. I just enjoy being on the cutting edge. The strata is the cutting edge of rba's. If frustration is something you don't want, stick to what works for you. If your a cloud chaser get a cheap ego w and sub ohm it. You want a sexy looking hand polished mod that has a streamlined arty that takes some learning your in the right thread! Growing pains suck, but in the end we are all a little stronger and a lot happier that we stuck with it.

On another note...I hate waiting. Not because I don't trust what's I'm purchasing, but because I like instant gratification. In my experience, it's always been worth the wait and the cost when it comes to Daves devices and engineering.

I agree completely... I hate waiting also but it's totally worth the wait!

Oooh, now there's an idea for Dave....a Limited edition collectors box of the evolution of Super T.... A T1, T2, Super Six, shockwave, precises starting with the 10440 through 18650, simplicities (Ti), ELA, and the 3 versions of the strata...big burled wood box to look like a humidor....

And $5,000 later... :)

Well, I got around to building another ophion coil. Here is a pic of my first attempt making one if Nach's coils:

tujy5eve.jpg

I am not sure how Nach built his coil, but I have found it easier to wrap some 26g around a small gauge pin (measuring 0.035" in diameter). I am essentially making it like a microcoil and then stretching it out to separate the coils. It is a very simple process. You just have to make sure that you stretch it out to the right length so that it fits properly around the periphery without touching the edges. The one pictured below is essentially the same as what I currently have installed except that it has significantly more wraps. That one did not heat up quickly enough so My current coil has 7 wraps. Having less coils means that I have to stretch it out further, which is actually beneficial because it flattens out the coil in the process.

The main key for performance, in my opinion, is in the wick. Nach recommended that I try organic cotton balls and that it should be packed in fairly tightly (as opposed to the traditional concept of cotton...less is more). I got decent results with that, but I wasn't fully happy so I tried my standard organic cotton wick, loosely packed...and the results were (and still are) tremendous! I am sure that I will get similar results loosely packed with cotton balls.

If you guys are having a hard time replicating Nach's coil, just try making a microcoil and stretching it out.

Is this seriously how super Dave expected us to build coils for this thing? Seems like a bit of a cruel joke...

No...it can be set up as a single, double, or quad coil...that's just how some have been playing with setting them up for maximum clouds....derived from a coil that someone originally built on another device.

Wrapping the kanthal into a coil and stretching it makes good sense to me. I see these kind of coils almost daily. Being in the heat and air industry. Heat strips as we call them. They supply emergency heat for heat pumps. I was actually thinking of trying one when I get my strata. Definitely will now.
