Introducing the Precise Strata RDA

I got mine today, and though I am very happy with the Simplicity, I am not with the Strata. I got a build working as well as Symbolic's using a dual coil low on the deck. Air is tightened down then backed off 3/4 of a turn. Everything else burnt my throat and it took 6 builds to get here. I would not call it a satisfying vape though. Far from it. I have tried all kinds of builds today, including the Orphion that was listed in the directions. Tried silica and cotton (which I do not like to use). I have not tried SS mesh though.
I have been vaping 5 years and doing rebuildables for 4. I like a challenge, but I don't think this atty will meet my expectations of how an atomizer is supposed to produce (unless someone shares a magic bullet-that doesn't involve cotton). At this point, I am not sure what to do with the Strata. Love the Simplicity though.

I set the resistance too high but you get the idea. One peice of kanthal micro coiled and twisted in 8s.

Still on my second build, a snork wrap, I de-coiled to 8 wraps of 24 ga. It's quite warm, with really dense vapor.

The more I fiddle with the ophion the better the results I'm getting. Used 30 gauge when I wrapped it this time, right at 1 ohm. Next time think I'll use a little heavier and see how that does for me. I've never been much of a cotton user so not too experienced with that part, but I'm finding small adjustments to the cotton making a huge difference in performance with this setup.

ETA: What I found working best for me on the cotton is packing it in there loosely with quite a bit extra around the top. Once I got it wet with juice used a small needle and kept poking it until everything was where I wanted it. Pretty much needle felting it in and working very well.

See? I knew that some would get it to work like I did, but the problem in my case is the warmth. I like a cool vape and I cant get a cool non throat burning out of it. If I turn the cap to where it does not hurt, then its weak. If I put my finger on one of the holes, then that helps but I just dont see me vaping with my finger on it comfortable.

I think like others have described that this is not a standard dripper is a good one. From the experience I have ( which is pretty small) its closer to the Genesis in vape quality. I never enjoyed Genesis vaping. Its really a "hybrid" silica/cotton/ genesis feel.

Okay, so I am bad at descriptions, but thats how I would describe it to someone asking me how it was for me. Im a whimpy vapor.

I wanted to add, that I have been using no flavour, no nic and Im still being overloaded with too much flavor , its illogical.

no not you. There were more than enough posts by people who clearly were pulling stuff right out of their butts. It's a very irksome thing on ECF.

Oh you guys better love old V coupe.. I have simplified those "ophion" coils and will give you a very easy detailed how-to in the next hour or so. I'll need to DL something to upload video if I take it. Anyway, hopefully this helps some of you out, I am producing good results, however I will still stand to say that this method of air flow needs a revision where the air is guided to the coil base. Anyway, till then boys and girls..

PS... It's not ophion coils, but the same general concept.

Ok here we go... Let's call this the "s*** better start workin' coil"

1. Start with a 1/16th drill bit or similar. I like using 26 guage kanthal but you guys can use different

2. Wrap the bit 5 times tight like a micro coil and seperate with a 3-4 mm gap and then again wrap 5 micro coils. When you make your gap just press on the coil to the bit tight but don't worry if it slips a few times as this is NOT a micro coil.

3. Space the coils and the gap between them while still on the bit. This will help the conformity of the coil spacing.

4. Once spaced like you see in the picture you can remove the bit and prepare to mount on the strata. To prep the strata, remove all post pins and visually see the concept of how these mount. You will need to "hook" the center "gap" under the negative post. I like using the "p" on the base as my reference point.

4A. Capture the wire and drag toward the center of the deck. Doing this makes attaching the wire to the post very easy and logical.


4B. Now cross the wires by the central positive post. You want the post to secure the wires at the crossing point to eliminate the need to wrap the center post which leaves little to no room.

4C. Hold the wires like shown and take the center pin to secure the wires. You will need to secure this tight so gently use pliers preferably with a cloth covering the metal. Once screwed on tight, wiggle the excess of the wire to break the leads you do not need.


5. Now you can take a small flathead screw driver or the drill bit and lift the coils 1mm above the deck and space them outward toward the perimeter of the juice well. You can also make them neater at this point.


... Now this is where you customize your build.
1. Add a 1mm silica wick INSIDE the coils using a folded peice of silica with a peice of kanthal used to needle pull the wick through.
2. Pack cotton behind the coil and under the coil.
3. Do like me and do BOTH .

Enjoy, I think this is a great starting point to get an easy enjoyable vape while learning to make your own builds suited to your liking. I will post a video later, but even to my high standard, the vapor production is 100% improved while retaining flavor and perfect TH.

Thanks V, what does the resistance end up to be ? I have only 30 guage, and I like about 1.2 - 1.5 how many wraps do you guestimate I would need to do?

Stay with 5, I'd estimate that to be right around 1.4 with 30g. I broke my reader so I'm guessing but keep in mind that 5 on each side fits perfect. You can raise the coils higher if you wish. Be careful with that damn drip tip, I've shorted out like 10 times now and I need to send mine back for refinishing/ replacement as I have very bad arc burns. My strata wants to kill me! Lol jk, just be careful.

One more thing, use a big bore 510 DT if you are wanting more vapor. Also till Dave corrects these tips.

The other neg screw goes back on, but it's not used as a ground. By using one peice of kanthal you eliminate wire clutter

One suggestion on trapping the wires, I'd wrap them under the positive post more to help reduce the chance of the post getting bumped off to one side when you tighten it down. Could help with the shorting and arcs you were getting.

Yep, I make sure they don't come in contact but you are correct, with the thicker G wire, that is a possibility which is why I don't recommend wrapping the center post to avoid adding height toward the drip tip. The issue with using the center post as a starting point is that the coils need length unless you fancy those .1 0hm builds that will set your face on fire lol. You can do an "s" line if you want to start from one corner, trap under the center and end at the far corner but that we can cover that next time. That can also work

I've done the S type build before, I think your method is much more elegant though. Performance was decent but not great, I didn't think to pack with cotton though, I bet that makes a big difference. Have you tried this build with and without the cotton to compare?

Yes. Without cotton the small silica wick burns juice very quickly so it's not juicy enough for me and my sub ohm builds.
