Have you noticed any difference in performance versus the unmodified cap?

Yes I have noticed a difference.I like it much better, and much easier for me to build coils that work. Over the next few days I will experiment with plugging off air feed holes and see how that affects the hit.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing your input. I'm more than satisfied with all my Stratas as I have gotten all of them to perform extremely well. So much so that I have sold all of my other RDAs!

I will be watching for your results because I need to find out which give you good clouds and the least TH.:)

well, back from the trip, picked up the strata's from the post office, tried cleaning as best as i could. dual coiled them, running ok but i still got that oily taste. What is the best way to get rid of it?

I washed mine in Dawn, plus blew them out with my blower. Washing alone did not get the oil out of the air channels.

I will say avidfan that with the modified stratus, and no holes closed off I can actually do lung hits even with a high pg/vg mix. Although I will get a bit of burn after about 3 seconds in my throat if that tells you anything about how airy the draw is.

I thought that the purpose of the strata air hole design was to pre warm the air flow by being directed through the channels in the fire chamber, so maybe not a cool vape unless hit on when cold.

That was the idea as I recall. Though mine isn't too hot but it is usually warm.

A major influence on throat hit is how the air is directed onto the coil, usually the more direct the air stream the less uncomfortable throat hit, well that burning type throat hit anyway.

Just to clarify K3vin's air hole mod. The modification the machinist did isn't side entrance holes as it first appears, as he drilled into the existing passages. Air still comes down the internal passages from the top and still has to make a essentially 90 degree turn to get into the chamber, his holes aren't drilled to the outside. What he's essentially done is move the entrances up higher in the chamber which may have a benefit to certain coil types. It does eliminate the adjustable draw, but if it works for him and he is happy (which no doubt he is), I say Vape on!

Don't forget to use syringe to flush out the air channels.

The draw is plenty airy as is. I have compared it to a different RDA that has an air hole of 5/64", and the stock Strata is actually a bit looser of a draw when it is wide open. My 5 second lung hits are not hot at all in my Ophion builds. Most, if not all, of the harshness that I have experienced can be attributed to residual machining oil.

Maybe I still have oil , I will break it down and clean some more.

I got my ELA and Strata last night. I spent about 4 hours total trying and discarding different builds before I got one that I considered truly good. I must say this is one of the more challenging devices I have had and I aint no spring chicken when it comes to crazy coil builds. Settled on a vertical dual coil at 0.68 ohms with organic cotton.

What sorts of things did you learn from your experiments? What works, why, what didn't work, and why?

I blew my oil out. :)
