Bless your heart (and your lungs) Crash. We're going to have to start calling you the beloved house GP (for guinea pig). But we (at least I) sure do thank you!!!!!!

Gotta go, the mail lady just delivered my COPPER! :D

OK, first impression...this thing IS different!

Heavy, don't want to drop it on my glass topped computer desk, that's for sure.

Second impression....hmmmm, top won't screw off like it shows in the video.

Third impression....you won't find me pushing on that thing with my lips or teeth. With my lips, well, they'd soon be quite sore, with my teeth, well I think I would soon be visiting my dentist.

However, that being said, to hold it in a way that I pull down with my thumb and first finger, walla, works great and easy to do.

Throat hit great! Vapor great! Looks, well, it's a novelty, definitely not feminine! May have to put some black roses on it or something. Heck this one qualifies for skulls and I'm NOT a skull type of person.

All in all, for the price someone gets great hits and great vapor. I wonder though the body, (pipes), sure gets warm, not hot, just warm.

I'll vape on it for awhile and see what I think. You get what you pay for and this definitely doesn't qualify paying $140 for, but hey, I paid $54.95 for it and I'm thinking it's worth that. If someone wants the hit and vapor of the Prodigy they'll get it with this. But definitely not the looks or feel!

OK, another thing. The whole time I've been typing this I've had it laying down. It's not on, there's no sizzle like when I push down on the atomizer, but it's still warm to the touch, not sure why. Interesting.

Just loosened up the bottom piece (unscrewed it a turn) and warmth is easing up. Interesting. Might be quite a learning curve to this. Not that that is bad, many of our mod's have a learning curve.

Just my initial impression.

Heres a little crude diagram of where to put the screens in the Iolite. Use the top location in models with a removable heat pin (best location) or use the bottom location if your heat pin is fixed

Frog should I take out the spike when using this method or just leave it in?? I did it with out pin as I didn't think it was going to make any difference.

I havent tried placing screens directly into the vapour chamber mysef so it would be interesting to compare this method with the other two. There are two things to keep in mind. If the liquid is able to wick onto the surface of the vapour chamber it is going to boil away too quickly.

The best thing seems to be keeping the liquid in a location that doesnt touch the vapour chamber surface and that heats up more slowly, hence the top herb chamber location works the best. Also this allows you to pull off the mouthpeice and drip directly into the chamber without removing the assembly from the Iolite. If you invert the top screen ring, the herb chamber won't fit back onto the Iolite as it hits the heating pin. Thats why this method is only suitable for models with a removable pin.

I figure making holes in the screens to stack them onto the heat pin is a reasonable alternative location for those people with the fixed pin models. I would imagine that the screens get hot quickly when placed on the floor of the vapour chamber without suspending them.

Just my thoughts, but I agree that mixing it with herbal molasses or using tobacco molasses is by far the best experience with the Iolite. This thing isn't an ecig and should be looked at in a different perspective. I much prefer the warm, mellow and satisfying vape and it doesnt at all have the synthetic feel that you get with an ecig.

Keep up the great work Crash!

Thanks for the feedback Andy aka Frog I think for the next experiment I'm going to put the pin back in and stick some screen on it, but make sure the screens aren't touching the bottom of the chamber and see how that works out for me. Will do a video update on the method when I get a chance, think my lungs are still recovering from the last few videos :p

I'm very glad to see so much enthusiasm and willingness to experiment with the Iolite. Just as using the e-cig required an adjustment (because e-cigs aren't the same as cigarettes), the Iolite requires some patience as well because it's a completely different animal.

When I first tried it, I was a bit put off because the vape was so harsh. I found myself coughing so hard that I had trouble catching my breath. The addition of a fair amount of glycerine really helped mellow the vapor and make it not only tolerable, but downright pleasant.

I've yet to play much with the screens. I've tried a few times, but I much prefer the cotton.

Regarding the cotton, I guess everyone will have to make his/her own mind up on that one. My husband (scientist) and my father (chemistry whiz) both insist that the Iolite isn't getting hot enough to actually burn the cotton and that I am NOT getting burned cotton fumes. I do use organic cotton, so I'm reasonably certain I'm just getting cotton and not other chemicals.

I should also add that my husband thought it was kind of funny that I was concerned about the cotton. I guess he has a point considering what crap I smoked in a cigarette for 30+ years.

Keep up the good work, Crash. And a special thank you to Andy . . . your willingness to share so much information has really helped me appreciate what a unique and fun device the Iolite is.

Hey Julie I know this was just meant to be a review by me but I think this is starting to turn into a iolite support group :p and i think thats great really i mean we can all learn from each others experiences and mistakes. and of course everyone else is more then welcome to post comments, questions, videos and pictures in here, anything related to the iolite. :) and i try not to worry about what i'm putting in my lungs when i vape to be honest as long as its not too nasty, nothing can be worse then a cig in my opinion.

Julie, and thank you for the vote of confidence!

Sharon--Keep experimenting with it. My problem was that my Iolite arrived around the same time as my Screwdriver, and, well, my SD was much easier to use. Too many toys to play with, and my Iolite kind of got put on the back burner. But I've had it out for awhile, and taking the time to really try different things has been a real learning experience. :)

Crash--I think you're right . . . we've got an Iolite support forum going here. :)

Exactly what happened to me, then I purchased the Prodigy and the Iolite was almost totally forgotten until Crash came along, and you. This thread has become so encouraging. Thanks Julie, and Crash and all!

Hey boys and girls I received a email from Tim, the owner of smokejuice regarding the iolite so I just thought I'd share it with everyone keeping up with this thread. So well I just want everyone to know that if you're looking to purchase the iolite and experimenting with it there's loads of support being provided to help everyone have a pleasant experience with their new toy.

"Hey Ahmar/Crash!

Apologies for the delays - it's been a busy few days...

Thanks for your good wishes (don't worry I'm not much of a praying kind either!) and also just to say good work with the Iolite reviews.

I think there are definitely ways you can improve your current setup, but it appears that people are helping by giving you some ideas on ECF so all good.

Your original method with the e-liquid (dropping uncut eliquid directly into the chamber is definitely a no go). You will see in some of the videos we have recorded, we recommend 20-30% glycerine added in with the e-liquid for better results. Also the liquid needs to be raised off the base of the chamber to prevent a boiling affect which is what happened to you in the first set of videos. By the way, do you direct inhale into your lungs? It's just I let some friends (direct lung inhalers) try the iolite a few months ago, and they had the same reaction as you: ie strong burning in lungs. But a lot of ex-ciggy smokers first take the vapour/smoke into their mouths before inhaling down. The difference is that it makes the heat less intense, so might be worth trying.

We are still awaiting a brand new custom designed e-liquid for the iolite, but until then standard liquid cut with 20-30% glycerine works okay.

If you need any more help/advice please let me know and I will try and be of help!

Meanwhile, thanks again for putting some effort into this, and of course thank you also for your good wishes!

Kind Regards,

Tim

Wow.... this is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for with the Iolite, Thanks Crash! You have renewed my support to purchase one of these. I hope by the time i can afford one some of the methods will be set. I used to smoke hookah with friends, do you think the Iolite would be the kind of social device to easily pass around? As far as herbs and stuff I am still debating its effectiveness with that, we still dont know if some of that crud you showed us was from the cotton ball or if it was something else.

I also wanted to say I agree with your reviews of the other ecigs. I started off with a 901 and loved it. I thought i was upgrading by getting a 510, but I ended up using the 510 for awhile before donating to a smoker at work (i just dont care about loads of vapor). I should have just stuck with the 901, but i guess i had to compare and see for myself.

I enjoyed your reviews, you dont seem like youre selling anything, just an honest impression.

looking forward to more iolite and ecig vids ;-)
