Great stuff! Would you mind detailing how you did the screen? Sandpaper? Dremel polishing wheel? I still haven't done mine. I have 1000 grit sandpaper but not anything finer, yet. Keep meaning to get more but haven't got around to it yet.

EDIT: Just bought a 6-pack on eBay, 2 sheets each of 2000, 2500 and 3000 grit.
Cotton ball and alcohol took mine right off. Then I used translucent black tint on it.

Did you just lightly "scrub" on the area to do this? This sounds like a much better option than using sandpaper or some other methods to scrape it off.
Yup. I kept screwing up the black spray tint I was using, so I had to do lots of alcohol scrubbing lol. Didn't hurt it at all tho. I too was reluctant to take sandpaper to it. This was considerably easier, IMO. I used 91% alcohol, if that matters. Took all the mirror tint off in about 2 minutes.

Awesome, thanks! That is a much nicer prospect.

On eBay I see a few 91% alcohol products, and then a lot of 70%s, and my favourite chemical/liquid company (for my DIY PG, VG, Nicotine) sell a 99.9% alcohol in quantities of 500ml and up.

Obviously 91% works, but do you - or anyone - have any thoughts on the others? I'm thinking about the 99% because although I'd have to spend more up front, it's much better value (per ml) and I'd have a big bottle for future cleaning/scrubbing tasks. I was thinking of getting some anyway, recently, as I'd heard it was good for cleaning metal parts of attys and mods (eg removing anodized gunk from the battery cap threads of mods.)

I've never really used rubbing alcohol before so I'm not sure what I should get both for this task, and for general purpose alcohol cleaning in future?

It seems obvious that if 91% works then so will 99%, so really I'm just wondering if it could be too strong for some tasks?

The full name is: "Isopropyl Alcohol IPA Isopropanol 99.9% Pure"

That's how it turned out. I'm probably the least crafty person ever created, but it looks better than the mirror finish. Even if only a little lol.

No arguments there (EDIT: about it turning out better, not about you not being crafty! :) )! is it still a bit frosted? Or is that just a slight out of focus on the camera?

I did my girlfriend's with 70% alcohol (I believe - it was those little alcohol wipes that girls use lol). I only used 91% on mine because that's all I had at my house. It's just something I picked up from CVS without even paying attention to what percentage it was. I think 70% would work just fine for ya.

Just out of focus! Lol. It's not perfect, but the trouble I had is with the tint stuff, not the removal of the stock mirror stuff. The good thing is, if you screw up tinting it - alcohol takes it right off! I'd know, I had to remove it about 100 times lol.

I usually keep a bottle of 91% around the house for general purposes (good disinfectant and cleaning solvent), but I usually just pick it up at a drug store or department store whenever I happen to be there and think about it. It's fairly cheap and common...here in the U.S., anyway.

BTW, great avatar. Big fan.

What is this spray on tint that you guys used? Where might one get it?
It's by Rustoleum. It's called "translucent black tint." I did 3 very light coats. I kind of regret not doing 4. If you screw it up, like I did 100 times, alcohol will take it off. (I also read online that gasoline would take it off too, but I have no idea if that would harm such thin plastic.) It's the spray tint that's used to tint taillights on vehicles. Cost me $11.40ish at Walmart.

has anyone noticed their battery drainage, my batt under the 510 is draining quicker than the other, same thing on 2 diff brand new married pairs; Sony VTC4's & Sammy's......i noticed this yesterday at charging time....just now after about 1/4 charge of use one of my VTC4's under the 510 read 3.86 and the other read 3.96......i don't like this, so i guess i'll just have to alternate in the sled every 1/4 charge of use....my other dual series mods drain perfectly.

they all came off my X-Tar VC2 at 4.20 and checked with my DMM rite before use.

I kept the mirror. simply measured and taped the area around the center rectangle and used a scotch brite sponge to remove the mirror in the center. was a bit scratched, so then used some plastic polishing compound to remove the scratches.

The cotton alcohol method seems like it would have been a bit easier -- but happy with the results.

Are the battery contacts nice and clean?

i'll give it a look-see and try what you said, if it were only a couple of points i wouldn't be concerned, but if this is the norm that's a definite problem......just charged a brand new pair of Sammy's bought at a different place....the first 2 sets were bought at LV yet i have never had any probs from them...it's gotta be the mod.

I had to edit my post. Thought I was checking the flask thread. [emoji37] The principle would be the same though. If battery is not getting a good connection, I could see the other battery trying to make up for it.

i have some very thin Copper Tape w/conductive adhesive, i wonder if i ought to try some if the problem persists.........or some solder wadda ya think?
