I think that a lot of folks interested or starting vaping are not really aware of ECF, and they're also not aware that it isn't a hostile forum like POV.

I mean that POV has a lot of trolls that are extremely hostile to new members, even those that have been vaping for some time and have picked up some decent knowledge and good ideas. And all they're looking for is good discourse and exchange of ideas, not wanting to get into flaming arguments with trolls who have the biased belief that they're always right and therefore everyone else must be wrong.

That's not a good environment for learning, or making sure that folks can vape safely.

And social media is one of the best and worst inventions in human history, there are some great groups that really do encourage the exchange of ideas and support each other.

I'm in one called Telescope Addicts, the group is full of reprobates and enablers who really do try and help each other out and have an unconventional sense of humor indeed. But groups like these that are a positive environment and experience are few and far between.

Usually social media is full of narcissistic psychopaths, flaming trolls, disinformation and folks airing every little detail of their lives or their perception thereof.

But the amount of venomous bile that people can spew via social media is astounding, as some people change drastically behind a keyboard for not any necessary reason apart from they can.

So I think that part of the slowdown of posts and new members is that people maybe aren't aware of ECF and it's a positive environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and information.

I know that I do all I can to promote ECF to folks.

And some of us are forgetting about CBD vaping, so we need to get them aware of ECF and signed up. As all the same gear is used, and some folks will love clouds and some folks will like a stealthy mist and they'll need to know what options are available to them and vape safely as well.

But they're just a few thoughts that I have, and if you really get into it there's probably a lot more.

You made the right move.

Perhaps. It's a tool, a platform, a place for people to come together. Some find it very useful. It's only as good or as bad as the people who run it and those who use it. Not unlike Twitter, Instagram or Outside. :)

Wow! gotta be honest, I have always thought of POV as tamer and definitely more relaxed than ECF!
If Im logged into ECF Im also logged into POV and what ever other forum Im a member of, currently about 6 of them, Ive never thought of POV as a trollfest, where as a few members here on ECF seem to negatively hijack various threads for what ever reason.
Just goes to show how everyone has different perceptions of things I suppose.

For what its worth, I dont see ECF, POV or an other forum Im on as too much different from any other social media, its just the same thing but on a different platform.

Your A-Z makes the ECF search function virtually useless if the item being searched is listed in your A-Z. The first 14 pages of the search results can be your threads naming things with no information attached to the things you are naming. Its frustrating. Fortunately google search doesnt seem to throw up your threads.
ECF has some good info if you search for it but apart from a very few current topics most of it is archived from about 4+ yrs ago.

Vaping is made up of a very few easily learned "skills" there isnt much too it.
Guitar, photography, artistic endeavours, shooting, cycling etc are life long and ongoing challenges and keep people engaged and improving for decades. I think after a certain point for most people they find their sweet spot with vaping very quickly and then there isnt much to keep them coming back to ecf unless they're gear fixated.

this shoulda been a signinandout thing for me, too. makes sense, ppl don't arrive here looking for a hobbyforum. if you don't get curious you won't stay beyond youre needs. these can bring you back for a few troubleshoots and new stages if vaping works for you/youre commited to making it..

but that's all good and sensible.

so should be some proportion us, decreasing with flameouts (or getting a life) and the rest should be everchanging noob traffic. the latter is prbbly down with the shutdowns: there's the ppl that are real-world-socially turned to vaping, gone, and many that are in maintain statusquo mode stocking up on 'logs not researching/tryingout new things.

me? i like the quiet whereever..

“Just under 14% of American adults smoked cigarettes in 2018, a dramatic decline from the 42% adult smoking rate in 1965, according to researchers with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

    it’s all helps :thumb:
    Nothing stays the same

    although that’s followed by...
“But 1 in 5 adults are still using some form of tobacco, and the boom in vaping threatens to undermine progress against cigarette smoking, experts said.”

I put those threads on ignore and they no longer show up in search results for me.

I think ECF activity is down over the last few years like most vaping forums, as the initial thrill of finding something that really works to stop smoking is not new anymore. Information about vaping is common now, making any one source for information less dominant. I also think that many ECF members got settled into their preferences and just hang out to socialize, eventually leading them to more social media settings. Not dying, just a reset for current times.

I remain here for sharing ideas, deals and the people whose posts I enjoy. The camaraderie is still here, it's just that the vaping community has grown and spread out into other environments.

ECF's role as a friendly, informative and civilized place for all vapers will keep it viable for years to come IMO.

I've pretty much given up on ECF. I still log on to keep an eye on the classifieds and interesting new posts once in a while (and found nothing in either area for quite a while now). But I pretty much stick to VU and reddit anymore. They both tend to have a lot more conversations that are relevant to me and the way I vape than ECF does. ECF seems to get a whole lot more noobies asking the same stuff time and time again. As a mech only user I feel I fit in better on the other two sites than this one. Reddit and VU both also have much more active classifieds, which is important to me. I also hate having to filter out my comments constantly because of how ban happy the mods can be when the rules are broken.

What it basically boils down to is that I don't feel as comfortable here as I do on VU/reddit because over there I can be me and not have to worry about being banned for it. I also see less arguments over there, which makes me feel like I can post more stuff freely without worrying about hostility and arguments derailing the thread.
