One thing that ECF is definitely good for is modding and hardware hacking, as we all have certain vaping items that need tweaking or sorting to get them working well.
Modding.
Most (if not all) of the great innovations and inventions in vaping started on ECF and other vaping forums all over the world--in Germany, Greece, Russia and other countries. First improved cartomizers, carto tanks/fillerless tankomizers/clearomizers (Billy, Badkolo, Martinez); mods--Trogg's Screwdriver, Little Brother and Little Sister, GG Golden Greek--
@imeothanasis; the Silver Bullet; RBAs (Raidy's Genisis), Reo's mods and squonking, RTAs (SvoeMesto's Kayfun), first vv mods (ProVari), first vw mods (Evolv's Darwin), kick, TC (Evolv's DNA), Arctic Fox. Our modders and resident wizards tested every possible material for best wicks (from ss mesh, alpaca wool, hemp, cotton, ecowool, ceramic, to rayon (
@JeremyR) and beyond; best batteries are still tirelessly tested by
@Mooch; and wires. The industry continues to develop thanks to the constant feedback from vapers, reviewers, vendors, bloggers... Phil Busardo, Dimitri, Grimm are (were) all members of this forum.
Syringe mods? Juice bottle tanks? Altoid tin mods? Flashlight mods?
First carto tank/clearomizer, invented by my dear friend br5495,
A modified Altoid tin. BTW, that's why we still call them mods. Because they used to be everyday objects
modified for use in vaping.
Nicotine? E-liquids and their safety? Where do I begin?
Nicotine Comparisons thread was started in 2012 by
@Cyrus Vap and remains a place to share what we know and are learning about nicotine purity, storage, mixing and handling.
@Rossum continues this work in his own thread through his continued experimenting.
Nobody was looking out for us and our safety in 2007 when vaping began in earnest--we had to do it ourselves. In 2009,
@Kate raised questions about diacetyl, later confirmed by
@Kurt, Dr
@KFarsalinos and others. Kurt also warned us about possible risks associated with vaping eliquids containing cinnamaldehyde, oil based flavorings, and some questionable sweeteners. Kurt and
@mikepetro and Farsalinos warned us about overheating e-liquids and the formation of formaldehyde, acrolein and other undesirables. We discussed the use of crystalline silica as a filler in certain coil heads (now gone), iffy plastics for tanks (gone or replaced with better plastics and glass), mod safety (believe it or not, some early mods were made without venting holes

--fixed). And yes,
@MacTechVpr is still teaching us how to build better coils.
Many commercial e-liquid makers (and hardware designers) started here, as fellow ECF rank and file vaping enthusiasts.
So again, thanks
@Oliver for founding this forum. I am forever in your debt. Wherever you are!
*sigh* Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.
