That it is cynical does not negate the truth of the matter nor is the statement a disparaging comment. Hospitals are worthy endeavors but if they fail to make money, they die. ECF is a worthy endeavor but if it fails to make money then it will die. There is and always will be some tension between an organization's 'mission' and its 'margin'. This is why I am and have been a 'supporting member' for many years. I will have no joy in my heart if ECF should fail.

ECF has to pay its bills, nobody would expect Oliver to support it out of his own pocket. Presumably ECF generates enough revenue to pay its bills or it wouldn't be here, but I would be surprised if it makes much more than that. I'm a supporting member for the same reason as you.

Not every endeavor has to make money. Like those guys in the red trucks who put out fires. Society recognizes the need and finances them. The idea that hospitals ought to operate as profit making entities is something I could spend a bunch of time disagreeing with, but I'll leave it there.

Well, that guy is cool. I too know a person who makes little to no money running a MH forum but the guy is on SS, has every psych illness known to mankind, is on SS and like, has few bills. He was a former computer programmer before he crashed and burned.

One would hope if Oliver were to need to close the site (I hope not) he would offer members/consortiums, etc. to take over costs and keep it going, but I cannot imagine he wouldn't. The really interesting part would be the suppliers. I have no clue how that works.

This is also why I am a supporting member. Because I like ECF and want to see it going. Lets face it I'm not going to click on a bunch of ads or buy something given the ads I see. So, supporting membership also has good things for *me.*

But I guess until Oliver weighs in or not, who KNOWS. I mean I don't even know how large the USA contingent is compared to the UK one etc. One of these days I will buy something from vaping. com

Long live ECF and prosper!

I still love ECF even after 11 years. It is the place I go to see reviews about a product I am interested in purchasing. Without it, I probably would have bought several pieces of junk that had major problems. This is not the only vaping forum I belong too but it is the only one I support financially.

Actually, because vaping assuages the hand to mouth aspect is what makes it more successful than other NRT's like the patch or the gum.

They may regulate vaping into near non-existence, but other forms of nicotine replacement therapies will continue to exist.

Thereby, if we help others combine available nicotine replacement therapies with zero nicotine vaping, then they have a good chance of being more successful than NRT's alone which we know fail due to the absence of any hand to mouth consideration.

Interesting thought, Opinionated, a new one to me. The nicotine from one source and hand to mouth from another. I am going to write that down somewhere and hope I remember where I put that note. The hand motions were [are] very important to my quitting. I think this is a great post.

Clearly I misread your intent. I apologize. I know nothing about costs of running a website like this one, but bills have to be paid. I support ECF because I consider it an invaluable resource--and I don't have to look at ads. ;)

Agreed. WTA junkies have been doing this forever--low nic or no nic vapes and Swedish snus or Ariva (dissolvable tobacco).

If nicotine base becomes unavailable, which I seriously doubt, one can always combine a nicotine patch or gum or lozenge with no-nic vape. Not ideal, but feasible.

I love participating in this ECF community, and I would be gutted if it was not here. I don't think it's dying, but Oliver's complete absence does concern me sometimes.

Oliver has done a lot of heavy lifting for the vape world. Way more than me for sure. No reason he should feel obliged to keep on carrying the load or posting here. It would be nice to see him drop in and say hello. Hope he's doing well.

I don't think anyone should feel guilty if they can't. If you want to help out another way, click on some of the ads you see. I don't think you even have to buy anything, IIRC google metrics or whatever counts a click on an ad as "interest" and pays the site a small fee.

I could be wrong on that, but last time I remember, that is how it was. So click on a few ads here and there and you are helping out. Boom.

I joined for reoville
I stayed for dibiville, tmods, custom classics, VR wood mods, Catfish attie mods.

This was the place for modders to be.

2015 was a Squonk explosion. We felt spoiled with 4 or 5 squonkers that weren't REO. And they were all here on ECF, taking lists. Sometimes 2 years wait.

I mostly stay now for the same people who I met in those little communities within the broader ECF community.

Well it doesn't have to be turned off permanently.
Or, depending on which ad blocker you're using, this site can be 'whitelisted'. Some 'ad companies' or whatever they're called count the number of times an ad is displayed. I'm sure that doesn't generate as much revenue for the 'displayer' as the number of clicks or buys, but every penny counts..
