Is transition to ecig possible this way?

Smoked a pack a day for 21 years. 4 days after I started vaping I was off them completely. But I really wanted to quit. My wife took one day longer than me. I would alternate my smoke breaks, one I'd vape the next I'd smoke, and so on....

The one thing I noticed during those 4 days was that the more I vaped the worse the analogs tasted. I found myself having to get past the awful taste to get my nic fix. I started doing 2 breaks vaping 1 smoking, then 3 vaping and 1 smoking, until I just didn't want to deal with that awful taste anymore.

Not saying this method will work for everyone, but it worked for me and I'm almost a year off analogs now with absolutely zero desire to go back to them. I've cut my nic level down from 12 to 6 (3 if I'm using a dripper) and am starting to notice some juice is too harsh even in a 6.

He's saying he isn't really fond of it but will try to get used to it, not sure he's found a flavour he likes yet.

Finding a Good Flavor and the right ratio of PG to VG is about 75% of the Battle. You also have to get used to taking Longer, Slower Hits that you did when you Smoked.

I sure he will find a e-Liquid that he likes.

While I agree with everything suggested and mentioned so far, IMHO, that is one of the most important factors. Keep searching until he finds that one flavor he really likes and looks forward to. And when he finds it, keep searching for another or better yet flavor so he can switch it up when wanted. It is much better/easier to grab the ecig because you want that flavor then just to avoid a cig.

It took me about 3 months for me to stop smoking. BTW, I also did not start vaping to quit either; was curious about this new technology and kinda hoped it could save me some money (taxes are outrageous taxes here). After a while I started to enjoy vaping.

With that being said, finding a flavor that satisfied me more than a smoke at certain times of the day was kind of what it took for me to get off smokes for good. I had some flavors that I liked and would vape throughout the day and I went from a 2+ PAD habit to about 3-6 smokes a day in that time. However, I was missing that one flavor which would satisfy me after meals and in the morning. It took some trial and error plus upgrading from the standard ego starter to a decent VV/VW device for me to forget about needing a smoke. Once I found that flavor and had the upgraded device, I stopped smoking because vaping became more enjoyable/satiating to me. Have not had an urge since that day and that was in January 2014.

I'll try to encourage him to try different flavours, at the moment he's using a tobacco flavour

Taste is, of course, Very Subjective.

When I switched, I never found a Tobacco Flavor that I liked. They all tasted like Diet Coke as compared to Regular Coke.

It wasn't until I tried Flavors like Caramel Waffle and Tastyfinger that I found things that I could use all Day.

My bf is still smoking his regular 4-5 cigarettes while vaping, he says he can only start reducing his cigarettes once he gets used to the ecig, he's only had the ecig about two weeks, will he get used to the ecig eventually even if he continues to smoke his regular five?
it took me three months of doing what your bf is doing, I went from 14 to 8 to 3 to 1 then to none a day

Maybe he needs to find a flavour he likes and would looks forward to.

Bingo.

I like Sweet Flavors. And I love Hard Candy.

So it was Very Natural for me to lean towards the Sweet "Brown" e-Liquid like Caramel, Chocolate, Pralines & Crème, Maple Waffle, etc. Also thing like Watermelon, Pineapple and Dragon Fruit are in my e-Liquid arsenal.

I wasn't even planning to quit smoking analogs.

I was just trying out an e-cig as an experiment, and I went from smoking about 2 packs of analogs a day to 0 a day, in the space of 1 minute, and I've only been vaping since then. Zero analog cigs since then. Everybody is different.

Some people need a transition, others need none.

The way I did it was like your bf telling you. Transition by getting used to it. I started using my ecig by alternating between smoke and vape only after work while at work I was still smoking analogs. I slowly started to notice that I liked the flavor better from my e-cig. So, I then started to switch it up at work. While I normally had 2 smokes during the first break, I would smoke half and put it out. Then I would vape for a few minutes and then finish the other half after that making it 1 smoke and one vape instead of 2 smokes. During my lunch break I would do the same but had more time so I did 2 smokes and one vape instead of 3.

Fastforward, from the end of July to November 11th, it got easier and easier to do more vaping than smoking as I cut back every day by a little bit. I personally did not really find any flavor that I liked but remembered that the very first try on a cig-a-like was unflavored so I ran a search and found out that myfreedomsmokes.com had it (24mg 75pg/25vg for a good throat hit if that's what he likes about smoking) in stock and for a very reasonable price. By slowly transitioning, it made my smokes taste worse with each one I smoked. Took me about 3 and a half months before I exclusively went to vaping. I smoked 1-2 packs a day for 28 years and do not even think about going back to them as now even the smell of them I do not like and I stay up wind from any smokers during our breaks.

Also, I can tell of a story about my dad. He smoked 2-3 packs a day and when I told him in September to get Unflavored so when he stays in hotels, as my parents travel a lot, he would be able to vape inside instead of going out to smoke. Only thing he asked is if he can still smoke while vaping. I told him yes as I knew that after time, they would taste bad to him. Fast forward to now, he has cut back from 2-3 packs to about only 2 cigs a day without even trying to quit smoking.

So, with that said, everyone is different and take time to find out what works for them. When they do, that bright light shines and everything is golden!!! Vape on!!:vapor:

all depends on him.

i had no intentions on quitting, either. also smoked for the first two weeks. haven't had a drag since nov. 17th 2013.

most important thing for me was reducing stress... especially directly related to smoking and quitting.

Now when I get stressed and need something, I grab my tank of 24 mg and puff on that for a few mins. Then I go back to my 6 mg. ;)

Exactly. I wasn't going to worry about how many I smoked when I started vaping. I actually had 7 packs in a carton plus an open pack when the actual transition happened. I was planning on smoking all that I had and then not buying anymore cigs. The ecigs won without a whole lot of effort.

Don't place a time line if the thought of giving up cigs freaks you out so that all you think about is a cig.
Some people need that that deadline though.
Important though, do not push or keep asking how vaping is going. That can add a bit of stress which in turn makes some want a cig more. Just let it happen. The more someone wanted me to quit smoking, the more I resisted and resented.

First 3-4 cigarettes per day is a tremendous risk reduction. Always remember it is the cigarettes you don't smoke that count. If this is only two weeks he is doing great. It took me three months of using both before I stopped completely. I did not intend to quit completely it happened on it's own.
