Okay so I recently purchased a new battery from smokeless image, 78mm auto. The first came DOA and would not even light up so they graciously sent me a new one as a replacement. I am having an issue with this one now.

It works partially but when I draw from any cartomizer that I own all which are smokeless image cartos, the draw is super loose, there is barely any pressure building up and there is a whistling noise almost like there is way to much air pulling through (almost as if there is a leak) and it prevents me from getting a decent drag. Its impossible to get any throat hit and I exhaust my lungs trying to get the proper vapor.

I tried all of the cartomizers on a different battery and none of them exhibit this problem but they all have the issue with the new battery.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this or has anyone ever had this encounter. I feel like if I submit another ticket their going to think I'm crazy.

I am sorry to say I have had this problem with all of the small auto sealed batts I have ordered in the last 6 months from this.vendor and others. Been thru 6 with SI and finally gave up. I .....ed whined cried suggested in multiple forums and nobody seems to know or understand the issue. Search around you will see others with similar issues with multiple 808 vendors. I think they changed the switch design or something and one Chinese company owns the design. My 65mm autosealed batts I ordered back in Jan work fine. I have gone to ordering unsealed autos but soon they will be gone as they are old technology. The only partial solution is to break off a toothpick in one of the batt holes, this will fix the switch activation but makes the draw tough. My advice. Let CS know its a problem, send it back, and go find an unsealed autobatts.

I had this with a couple of my batteries. Like all the air was coming in thru the carto vents and was skipping the battery switch all together and failing to fire the battery. I fiddled with them a lot, thinking too much air was getting in, then popped off the ash cap, and viola! Battery fires like a champ. So the *ash cap* is blocking the air flow to the battery! Drilled a couple holes in the sides of the ash cap using a large safety pin (it's very soft plastic) and the battery fires reliably now. I'll come back and add a pic in a couple mins.

Sorry it's blurry. Phone camera :/

What I don't get is that this is such a simple fix, why are they not making a better ash cap in the factory? Heads up Smokeless Image ;)

I agree that it's a problem. Both of my auto 78's have been modified with toothpicks and their draw is pretty decent now (a tad too tight though).

For what it's worth, the ash cap mod above doesn't tighten the draw like the toothpick thing does, it just stops all the air escaping out of the thread vents.

Seriously, I didn't think it was the ash cap either til I realised the battery worked like a champ when I took it off. Not all my batteries are like this either. Just two out of three volt 65mm. The other one is fine.

Sorry I can't compare bloog and volt. Bloog won't ship to me, the buggers :)

I removed the toothpick tip from the airhole and then removed the ash cap and I think you may be right. It's working better than it used to.

ETA - it still feels a little "airy" but the difference is that the battery is firing immediately and throughout the inhale without requiring any extra effort. Before it wouldn't fire properly unless I inhaled with quite a bit of force.

Yep, the ash cap fix is much airier than the toothpick thing (I'd tried that too). I think this is how they are meant to work? They need to design a better ash cap!

Agreed. I did as you suggested earlier in the thread and poked a few holes in the ashcap. I like this modification better than the toothpick thing, partly because it seems to work better, and partly because there's no longer a piece of wood jammed into the battery. That always worried me when charging, so this gives me some peace of mind.

I have 2 sealed SI batteries and 1 sealed Bloog.
The SI ones are from the first batch. The 65mm does just like you are complaining about, very airy to the point I don't even use it. It whistles. The 78mm started out like that but over time became normal. Maybe it is dirty or something but I have no problem with an airy draw now.
The Bloog is the Aurora version so it has a diamond cap rather than the ash cap. It isn't airy at all, but since it doesn't have the same cap I'm not sure that would be a good comparison.

But if this was a typical problem with most SI sealed batteries, I think we would have heard more complaints. Probably just an unlucky few out of hundreds have this issue. I haven't bought any new ones recently because 11 batteries is plenty for now (the others are unsealed).

I cannot believe the vapor production I'm getting after modifying the ash cap. I'm not sure I can stealth vape this thing anymore. :?:

(Using a CE3 with it, btw. Just in case anyone was curious. The prefilled carts don't give off as much vapor, but definitely more than they used to)

I can't thank you enough, Somethingbeginningwithk. I suppose "liking" all your posts will have to do.

LOL no worries :D thank you for giving me the opportunity to share, i'd been wanting to for a couple days but hadn't worked up the courage to start a thread with my totally newb 'mod' ;)

ETA: I've just realised you weren't the OP, so thank you to strife21 for posting originally :D

When you said ash cap I thought you meant the rubber cap on the carto ahaha. I will try your mod.
