I started with a cig type then went with a small ego, then larger ego to a twist. Then to a mvp chasing a warmer vape and more vapor. Now my mvp is slowly dying and I was at work and the battery died and my back was fully charged but at home. A coworker let me use his spare ego battery and while I was thankful, I can't believe how different it was. The vape was cold and it didn't hit right at all.

I don't think I could go back to that. I know I haven't had the best gear because of finances but I am sure you guys have had some great gear. Could you go back to where you started and be satisfied?

Great thread, really makes me think and recognize how far the technology has come in only a few years. I think almost every current vaper went through a similar progression:

Gas station cigalike (phase 1, let's see what this is all about).

510 rechargeable kit (phase 2, I'm into this)

Ego battery with CE clearo (phase 3, I finally have what I need)

VV/VW Tube mod with bottom coil mass market tank (phase 4, ok, now I have what I need)

Box mod with couple of drippers and tank RTA's (phase 5, ok, now I really have what I need)

Clapton coils with depleted uranium triple twist overwrap, and Induction Furnace Inferno v7 mod, wick made of organic cotton grown on an unspoiled mountainside loving picked by Tibetan Monks (phase 6, how did I ever use any of that old crap and whoever still does is a noob, and I have the Induction Furnace Inferno v7.5 on preorder)

Etc . . .

:)

No, there is no going back. You can never go home lol.

I started with a cigalike and i think it was ok for introducing me to vaping as i had never heared of it before but within a couple of weeks i had moved on to ego style batteries and protanks. Not long after that i got my first VW mod and have never looked back.

Don't think i could ever go back to cigalikes they were never really satifying they more just opened me up to the idea of vaping instead of smoking. I recently went back to my kayfun lite v2 after only using very airy RDA's for about 6 months like the mutation x v4. I was running low on liquid and only had some 12mg stuff that was too strong for me in my RDA's. Going back to my kayfun with a tight draw after using my RDA's for so long was a shock. Don't think I could ever go back to a tight draw long term again.

I could not go back all the way to the Ego-C Upgrades. After them I bought a MVP2 and ran Protank's on them. I no longer get a satisfying vape from that system now. I bought my first Mechanical then. I still use it today. Throw a Kayfun Lite on their and it just works. I seem to be happiest at 15 to 30 watts now and anything else does not cut it. I have some high watt units and some subtanks but don't use them much as I don't want to get used to that tremendous amount of vape and my body requiring it to be satisfied. CHEERS!

You say nothing about what topper you're using with the battery, as if the battery is the main part of the device instead of just the power source. It may just need more voltage or power than the battery you borrowed. Sort of similarly, I wouldn't be able to borrow a basic battery and get the vape I'm used to because in my case that requires voltage reduction.

While I think reverting to a 'ciga-like' should be saved for dire emergencies, the 'clk!' and Aspire Maxi tank I started out on is a decent enough setup (at least for me).

Admittedly nether have much capacity I still fairly regularly use the tank and the mod (at least as a backup). I guess I have not ventured from Aspire 1.8ohm tanks (got 1/2 dozen of them now).

My taste buds are still in "recover mode" from +40yrs of smoking analogs. (so not 'chasing' flavor) I'm not the least bit interested in fogging/clouding up a room (like I did as a smoker) that would be replacing one form of air annoyance with another.

I could go part way back...not all the way to cig-sized, cartos, blue foam...but to ego/evod types. I still use some of the old stuff.

That being said, I try not to go forward either. I keep telling myself I don't need more stuff. I broke down and bought a subtank mini this month (not for the sub part, just for toddle puffing). This was my first purchase in 11 months...tried to go a full year, couldn't do it.

My Vaping journey is actually longer then i think sometimes...

I started off most like everyone else, with the small crappy throw away gas station ecigs. Needless to say just like for most people it did not work at all for me, not strong enough, not enough vapor production, and i was Smoking cigs in between using them... Was a short lived adventure and i was back smoking.

Next step was the "rechargeable" throw away e cigs from a tobacco shop, once again same thing didn't work not enough smoke not satisfying, started smoking again.

I got to a point again were i wanted to stop, as did my girlfriend. At this time i became aware of more high end vaping devices, but my girlfriend and i both agreed that we though it looked so stupid and made fun of all the fruity flavors. So we did a little more research and ended up buying the V2 starter kit since they had a button to get more vape. These worked a little bit better, but once again got to the point that it did not satisfy and went back to smoking.

Last Christmas i broke down and went to a vape shop in the mall. I ended up leaving with an aspire nautilus mini for me, a kanger protank 2 for her, and two aspire EGO batteries and some ejuice. This was much better and worked a little bit longer, but i went through some really stressful times and went back to smoking.

I gave them another shot to too much later, at this point i actually started doing some research (I went into the vape shop clueless and just bought whatever the guy sold me the last time.) after a few days i decided i wanted a real vaping device so i went out and bought my first box mod (istick 50W) and the atlantis tank. And ive been vaping that ever since! I had a few moments of weakness but for the most part ive been free of cigs.

To answer the original question though would be a yes and a no for me. When it comes to batteries i will never ever be able to go back to twist on batteries, i will always have a box mod from here on out. BUT when it comes to tanks i can go back and use my nautalus mini. I have found the best setup that works for me is keeping my Atlantis and Mini on me at all times. In the Atlantis i always keep a higher vg with lower nic 3-6 max, then i have my Mini which i fill up with 6-11 nic and i alternate between them all day. I find if i start vaping one thing too long i loose interest. Also if im having a bad nic fit i can take of my atlantis and easily switch over to higher nic.

One last thing. Its funny how i used to make fun of how people looked smoking these big devices and fruity flavors when ultimately is was just what i needed to quit (love fruity flavors)

I tried my grand daughters Cigalike and did not like it. Then Bought KTs Evod Double Starter Kits 2 of those LOL. I like Ego batts now I have a bunch of the 2200mah ego batts. I also Like my bottom single coil using tanks. I am happy where I am. I tried a VV 2200mah ego batt but was not all that impressed. But that is just me:vapor:

I could have gone back to the first twist that I had before I turned to the Subtank and sub-ohm vaping. Now there is no way that I'd be satisfied with a twist and disposable tank anymore. Prior to that with my MVP2 and a nautilus or aerotank I could have gone back if I had to, now I'd rather just quit altogether after sub-ohming with all the extra flavor and vapor production.

I highly recommend keeping some older gear around. Even though I now have 3 atlantis tanks, a couple Kanger ST's, and Herakles, I still hit a Aerotank Mega for a couple hours every few days. Not because I like it better or as well as the sub tanks, but because after a couple hours drawing through that, switching to a sub tank is heaven. It keeps the sub ohm experience "fresh".

Besides, I still have some higher nic juice to use up. :sneaky:

I started out with cigalikes, then ego to mods. All I have used for over a year is Reo's. While traveling through an airport I thought to make everything easy I'll just stick a cigalike in my pocket. That experience, answered that, no. I was traveling with a friend who vapes, she hung onto her VV mod and Kayfun. Actually my old Kayfun I gave her. While at a smoking lounge in the airport I used it, no, no longer for me. I plan to just stay where I'm at.

I've kept all my old gear, started with an e-roll then went onto ego's. At the moment I'm happy with my i-stick but there's a Lavatube 2.5 (that I won on here) arriving shortly. Then there's the ego one that I have my eye on ... too many pretty shiny things. ;)

Yeah I won the GG4S and I really needed a upgrade. But I know once again I will be spoiled on better gear. But the good thing is it should last me. I hear mech mods are hard to break.

I would definitely be struggling going back to my vaping roots, so to speak. Started of with a tiny ego style device with something like a six mah battery, but I have to give credit where it's due, that little beauty got me off the cigs. That was followed by an itaste clk with a pro-tank mini, then a itaste clk 1280 with the nautilus mini. Got into the dna30's with the solara and a silo tank on top, then came drippers-subtanks, got myself an VS rdna40 and have now found a new favourite, the SQuape's, the R and R(s) are amazing devices. The only other thing on my radar at the moment is the Origen V3 and mech mods (haven't tried one yet) Kaifun V4, the SX mini and the list goes on and on.
A none-vaper will never understand why we lust after a particular mod or atty, it's just beyond their comprehension - LOVE THIS VAPING LARK, IT'S GREAT FUN

I still have my Vamo and SVD in my collection. If I ever needed to go back to it, I have plenty of silica wick and wire to rebuild the protank heads. I played around with mechs for a while, but primarily use my mini iSticks now. Love the form factor and ease of use when I'm out and about.

Every time I've picked up one of my older devices, I've been disappointed.

But, I am wondering if sub-ohming really is the future. The shops all seem to be pushing high wattage devices and sub-ohm tanks or RBA's. They sell a lot of juice. That where I am after disposables, automatics, manuals, 2 x Vamo's, a DNA30 clone, Cloupor Mini and an SX Mini M-class.

Maybe TC keeps it going forward. Who knows where it's going? It's a completely new scene every 6 months. If you can go that long without an upgrade, then you're guaranteed to get improved performance.
