I don't know the legalities of it.I think it's unethical. I also think it's a sad day when you feel you have to monitor your employees every move.That breeds lack of trust of him in his employees.Not a good work environment IMHO (Sorry) I was lurking. Made me mad. I'll go now.

Anyone know anything about employee rights??? I went to work today, and found that the owner had installed closed circuit surveillance cameras everywhere. Best that I can find out that so far is that it's illegal if it the premises aren't posted saying that you are entering an area that's monitored by CCTV's. We have 9 guys in our shop and now have 8 cameras watching our every move. I was absolutely livid when I found out. I'm 46 years old and have helped make this guy a VERY rich man, and now I have to be wary of my every move. Helluva thank you, I'd say. He hasn't informed any of the employees about it either, which is also against the law. There's a lot of gray area in the laws covering this. Anyone on here that can enlighten me??? I know this is off topic, but I was hoping someone on here knew more about this than me.

Looks like everyone wants a heavy metal run. I'll get some more on order this week. I'm taking a little break and getting some more parts to upgrade the lathe. Everytime I upgrade this thing, I find the next weakest link. This thing is going to be a brute when I get done with all the upgrades LOL!!!

I know I work for MWR and we have cameras in the CMO because they have had a problem in the past with food walking out.

Don't apologize. I was beyond mad today. I think it's a slap in the face to the guys that made his company as successful as it is. We are the premier machine shop in the area, and we have the cream of the crop machinists. As good as my lathe work is, I have 2 guys that I work with, that make me look like a first year apprentice. I make them look bad when it comes to complex mill work though. If I ever get time to get my mill running, I'll have some hi-end VV box mods coming. How does purpleheart wood with inlaid bronze sound? I'm thinking along the lines of a celtic knotwork design in bronze, inset into the lid.

JB I know how you feel. My wonderful employer decided that all the salespeople need to have one of his cell phones (which we have to pay $70 a month for, even though each of us already had a cell phone) and on each phone is a program that let's management track every move we make during the day. While I could give a flying you know what about them knowing my every move, I found morale within the sales force dropped significantly. It actually made most of us hate the company!

I would be quite upset about the cameras also. That's just not cool. I think you should just start making mods and tanks full time. Because what you described sounds amazing!

I've got a guy that I used to work for that's been begging me to come back and design progressive metal stamping dies for him. He's a tightwad though and I can't get him to shake loose of some good money. I've been a little disgruntled for a whilei, this was just the icing on the cake today. I'd like to move out of the state, but I have custody of my kids from my first marriage and the courts won't let me move without her permission.

I work for GE and I keep looking around for cameras to show up in the rafters. They put motion cameras everywhere outside. I think in my lifetime big brother will be everywhere in our lives like it or not.

All boss's I come across are now bean counters and know nothing about what we do. Boss's used to do my job. It's everywhere. Companies dont care about people any more just numbers. After 25 years there I feel like an odd number.

I saw the molten copper but I thought the copper haze was a better fit for my woody bp! The magenta bliss was made for my purple buzz!

I don't know about cameras but you would be surprised what little rights and employee has. Because of what I do for a living a know for a fact they can read your email. The first time a client asked me to to set things up so he can receive copies of all incoming and out going mail for most of his employees, I decided o research it before I moved forward because it just seemed wrong... it is wrong, but not against the law! And you would not believe how many employers have me do it.

The camera thing sucks, I'm sorry to hear that! I know I'm not the first who htought of this so I'll come out and say it... stay home and make tanks... theres a damand and you can be your own boss!
