Just changed out my carto after a week of use. I wanted to see if there was any burning in the carto. We'll come back to that. Here are some pics of a carto that I milled a 3/32" hole in. It's working great. You can see how close I mill the hole in relation to the bottom cap. If your gonna punch yours I suggest punching it a little higher because punching cartos is going to deform the carto a little and may hurt the seal.

So what did you use? Dremel or something similar? I was curious about metal shavings doing that but as you mentioned, punching it could also cause it to go out of round.

Here's a pic of the inside of the carto after 1 week of use. This was used at 5.0 volts and was tested at 4.9 under load. you can see a little discoloration where the coil was, but nothing really bad. This is what I like to see. No burning carto. This is proof that this tank is giving a nice clean vape keeping the carto wet as can be.

I have a mill that I use an end mill to cut the holes. I have a nicely shaped very small piece of sheet metal that I slide on the carto in between the filler and the outer edge so when the mill goes through it doesn't catch the filler and no metal shavings get inside. I also hold a vacuum close to the mill to suck up the shavings.

In contrast to post #1247, here is a picture of of the filler in my Boge 2.0Ω Carto after after four refills. I use a Provari at 4.0 volts. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to keep using this set up but this is the second one I've taken apart and both looked like this. The filler itself was fine and the sleeve was fine as well. It's the wrap around the sleeve that seems to be getting burnt. I used a dremel to cut two slots.

Do you fill the carto before you use it in the tank? I make sure my carto is fully loaded....not just a few drops. I know some people fill the tank and just throw a little juice in to prime. Mine are loaded.

Honestly, I don't remember if I did or not. The first time I did but since I leave it sit for hours before using, I figure it's got plenty of time to soak in. I will say that the burn mark looks a lot like the size of the dremel slit I made. I don't think I went too deep but you never know. I've got three more carto's that I'll be taking out of rotation over the next few days so I'll check those out as well. I'd love to see what other people are finding in there cartos.

I drill or mill mine. I also protect the inside before I mill it. I take a feller guage....because they are made of hardened steel....Bend it to the contour of the carto and slide it in the carto in between the wall and the filler. That way no filing get in the carto. And the mill won't damage the filler. I think I used a .003 feller guage. It was thin enough to bend.

The burning your getting might be from the initial use. I'm not 100% sure but I would try to make sure the carto is full and check it again. You might see a difference. I checked all 4 of my tanks and found similar result in the first one I checked.
