Ok guys... this discussion got me curious and concerned...

Take apart more than one of them..I would suggest taking them apart when you're done with them..some are worse than others..these are mass produced so there are variances. That small white piece of cloth is most likely poly-fill and it looks melted..dry it out and see if it burns or melts..the ones in my dual coil burns/melts.

Sure it's only a small amount of melted plastic you're inhaling and it probably won't kill you but if you inhaled it for years who knows (probably still safer than smoking cigarettes). I know one thing there is an extra taste in a polyester filled cartomizer that I don't get dripping on a coil that I've built or in a CE2..it really doesn't taste of plastic but it's something..maybe because it's so little. I have compared them side by side with more than one of my flavors.

Personally, 9-10W is where the magic happens, and I don't even like very hot vapor. Its just *right*.
That chart about "safe" wattage range is just plain silly. I can make same chart like that and paint it in pretty colors. Safe in what way? What was the coil used to actually test that? Thicker but longer coil is not the same as thinner but shorter coil. What feeding system was that tested on? Its just a random chart with nothing to back it up.

As for what "others" like, most people I know don't go under 8W. I actually know a guy that safely and happily vapes at... drumroll... 27 watts. Twenty seven. Don't ask.

This talk about melting solder, or coils... well, just lol.

For the win Boge single coil cartos on VV....:toast:

Chrispy's pics look like what I would expect from a DC or single coil carto that was not well primed before usage in a tank or other wise...

Well no burnt taste and I've been vaping since last June so I'm no newb..I primed them all very well..this is not rocket science before I even started vaping I watched videos and read about them for more than a couple weeks. When I got my tank kit I watched videos and read about filling them..I filled them from the top then saturated the filler and let it soak.

It worked like it was supposed to. The only reason I bought a tank kit though was for the tanks,eGo batteries and extra charger (having a case was nice too) as I had already planned on using CE2's on them..with discounts I got the kit that sells for $59.99 for $45.

I knew beforehand that I didn't like poly-filled cartos because I had used them with my 1st 510 kit and those had melted/burn marks in them when I pulled them apart..the poly-fill or poly wrap in these cartomizers are polyester..poly-fill would work ok in the atomizers with the cartridges because the poly doesn't come near the coil...

I thought this thread was about the eGo Twist...weird.

Yeah it just got off track..anyways the eGo twist looks like it might be a decent device to have..if they work out and the price dropped I would probably buy a couple. It will be nice to have a VV that's small probably will fit my needs and I can carry in my pocket :)

I'm sorry for highjacking the thread. There was nothing melted and the white cloth was not plastic. I'm sure some are worse than others but this was the one I pulled out. I tried ce2's and even with constant wrist tilting I still kept getting burnt tastes no matter how I kept the wicks soaked or what voltage, that burning that I taste has to come from somewhere. Not everyone likes everything. Some love boge cartos some hate them, some love ce2's some hate them. just because I don't care for them doesn't mean I'm going to condemn someone who does. Use what works for you and what you love. I also like to direct drip and get burnt hits from that when I'm not careful so something is burning there also.

No one is right or wrong.. it is what it is. We decide to do this instead of smoke cigarettes. I did this experiment to satisfy my own curiosity and concern. I enjoyed my eGos and enjoy mine still every once in a while.

The twist sounds like a nice device. If it's as small as the original eGo and cheap.. I might be interested in having one to take out and about. As much as I love my Provari I'm not blind to it's faults.. it's big and heavy compared to an ego and sometimes gets cumbersome to take to work. (especially when I'm trying to hide it in my scrubs pocket ;) )

Happy Vaping guys :)

That "cloth" (which is most likely polyester) is black in your picture and mine melted/burned under a lighter. The burnt taste in a CE2 is most likely burnt juice or gunk from leftover juice. I use a drip on demand for dripping so rarely a dry hit and the atomizers I use are made out of CE2 parts that I make myself. The ceramic wick and top part where the coil is can't burn..I burn gunk off them all the time with a torch and after they look nice and clean almost new looking because they are ceramic..one other thing I worry about is the rubber seal in the connector getting too warm and leaching into the juice. Anyways if you're not worried about it enjoy

Yeah the Twist looks like a covenant device..too bad the battery tech isn't here or we could have VV's in 510 size..because the only thing really holding that back is batteries ;)

sigh

I hate to take this further off-topic, and I am interested in the Twist, but I have to chime in briefly.

The coil on any modern polyester batting cartomizer is completely wrapped in a piece of glass mesh cloth. It's very apparent in donnah's photos. It does not burn from common coil temperatures, it does not burn in a lighter flame. They almost always come out of the carto pure white, unless the juice is particularly dark, in which case they may be slightly discolored.

This is surrounded by a piece of batting that is not flame-proof. It has two holes to allow the coil wires to pass through it. I've seen so many people claim those are "burn" holes -- they aren't. Rinse that batting in water and all of the dark carmelized juice rinses right out, leaving two clean holes.

I take apart just about every carto I use after its lifespan is depleted, and the only thing I could attribute to "burning" of the polyester batting was back in the early days of Bloog cartos. The design was altered by Leaford (who was instrumental in the design of bottom-coil cartos in China) to remedy that issue, and the burning issues were resolved.

Coincidentally, the only time with a modern coil that I've tasted burning plastic was an un-modded CE2.

Really, this issue has been gone over and over and is pretty much settled: modern cartos do not burn the batting. If they were continuously burning the batting, you'd know it immediately by the taste, as was the case with the early Bloogs (and that wasn't every carto; it was sporadic).

Here's to hoping Pbusardo or GrimmGreen gets his hands on either the VMax or the Twist. I eagerly await the reviews. :)

Can I "like" this post more than once? (I generally vote Democratic, so I'm kinda used to voting multiple times anyway).

And Chrispy, when you tell Frick why he's wrong, along with everyone else, could you please just use black bold? The blue's not really working for me either. TIA.

Oops, almost forgot - gotta stay on topic, so: Hey, did you guys know that Joyetech is coming out with a variable voltage device called the "Twist"?

There is no glass mesh that doesn't burn on my DC cartos that were made a few months ago..there is however a separate mesh wrapped around the coils that does burn and is probably polyester..it fact it burned with a regular Bic lighter when it was still somewhat wet.

So you're saying the wrap in my dual coil tank cartomizer that only has been being sold on MadVapes for a few months that I bought this year is an old coil? Because the wrap burns from them with a regular Bic lighter..maybe you're talking about the ceramic wick that the coil is wrapped in the same kind they use in CE2's only smaller. Edit: Now I know what you're talking about the ceramic tubing that is around the wiring but that isn't over the coils it's to protect the wires from melting.

I take apart just about every carto I use after its lifespan is depleted, and the only thing I could attribute to "burning" of the polyester batting was back in the early days of Bloog cartos. So I see melting on an eGo battery yet I guess you probably use yours on a Provari and no melting..guess the eGo makes more power than a Provari :glare:

Coincidentally, the only time with a modern coil that I've tasted burning plastic was an un-modded CE2.

That's funny since there is zero plastic in a CE2 (edit: outside of the wire insulation but that's on the other side of the ceramic cup so it's protected)..most like you tasted burnt juice or in some cases the rubber cup that is probably make out of the same rubber that hoses in coffee makers comes too close to the coil and it's easily fixed in a few seconds.

Really, this issue has been gone over and over and is pretty much settled: modern cartos do not burn the batting. If they were continuously burning the batting, you'd know it immediately by the taste, as was the case with the early Bloogs (and that wasn't every carto; it was sporadic).

Again I bought a "modern" well known cartomizer that is used in all the tanks yet there was melting..in fact I've only been vaping a bit less than a year and I've seen the melting in a few cartos.

Here's to hoping Pbusardo or GrimmGreen gets his hands on either the VMax or the Twist. I eagerly await the reviews. :)

Yeah I bet you really hated going off topic again :glare:

Edit: BTW since you pull them apart you could do a demo of the glass mesh cloth you say is in modern cartomizers..either that or a spec sheet on the said cartos would work...

Stay classy, Chrispy.

Oh yeah: "Joyetech Twist".

Hey that's what you get when you try to tell me what to do..hmm maybe I should get a nice cup of French Roast in an espresso machine and pull an allnighter like when I used to game a lot and play for over 20 hours+ on occasion..I really like posting in blue I used to post in it all the time on another forum.

I really hope the Twist holds up well a VV eGo will be nice :)

Great debate gentleman. I enjoyed it. Now about that Twist..... Where is it and when is it coming out?

Last I heard it was being delayed but only for a short time for an issue..but I believe really soon..I think if it wasn't for the delay it would be at some vendors already.

No need; it's already been done too many times.

Here, from over a year ago: A PBusardo Review : Boge 510 LR Carto Vs. Smok Tech 510 LR Dual Coil Mega Carto - YouTube
He slid the glass mesh up to reveal the coils, but you can see both plainly there in the space of 20 seconds, on both the Boge and your Smoketech dual-coils.

Coils in direct contact with polyester batting would burn it continuously. Glass mesh doesn't burn.

This is simple e-cig knowledge, known for at minimum 2+ years.

The ceramic/glass tubes you're talking about are to protect the wires not the coils maybe one slid down over a coil but that is not where they go..they are wire insulators and you see them in lamps to protect the plastic insulation from melting from heat they do the same with the wires in the carto and they protect the wire near the coil from melting..if you put that over the coil you wouldn't get enough juice to them.

The wrap isn't ceramic/glass or it wouldn't have burned with a lighter (if it is it's really low quality and it burns but I highly doubt it) if it was ceramic it wouldn't burn even under a torch like the ceramic wicks don't..the liquid keeps it cool enough to not burn it completely that's why these poly-filled cartos are junk when they run dry..I think you're probably better off staying out of this argument...
