Congratulations!!

I've never worked at Wal-Mart, but general rule of thumb for any job is to always go in with a smile and leave your personal crap at home. Try to find ways to just do that little extra work to open up new opportunties to learn things and eventully earn more responsibility. Always under promise and over deliver... Just a few thoughts...

Congrats on the job, Thomas! I know a few people working at Wal-Mart, and they really like it. Wally is flexible for students, but the work environment is consistent--you'll always know what to expect when you get to work on any given day.
Just wondering, folks: Is it common where you live for people not to have jobs until they're 18+? Almost everyone I know has been working since they were 16, many of them since 14 (or younger in unofficial capacities--I've been working since 12).

Congrats on your first job! I worked there many years ago, graveyard shift at the jewelery counter. It was pretty pleasant for the most part. Very busy (even at night!) during Christmas time. You'll see lots of interesting people, some that make you proud to be a human and others not so much. LOL And when you first start, if it hasn't changed, you do lots and lots of "training" with these little quizzes on a computer. Easy peasy, but I had trouble staying awake for those.

If you stay with them and buy into their corporate teachings and work your way up the management ladder, you can make quite a bit of money. That choice is entirely up to you. I have several family members who have worked there for their whole professional careers and have done quite well for themselves. Retail is not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Congratulations, Thomas!

The only thing I have to add to what's been said already is always show up for work on time and be dependable. I'm kind of a slow poke and I've gotten so-so reviews at jobs I've had where speed was important but I've never been fired. Bosses like it when they can rely on you to work your shift... one less worry for them.

Somewhere in time.
I have worked at WalMart for three years now-it's not a bad place to work if you're flexible in what you are willing to do. The ONE thing I will add is their late/tardy policy is freakin brutal and at least here doctors excuses don't count, so unless you are dying-go in. Most of my managers will send you home (and excuse it) if they actually see how awful you look-but I almost lost my job when my daughter was in the hospital because I did not get my leave approved quickly enough.......it was a sudden illness.
