The hemp cord is also sold at Hobby Lobby if you happen to have one close. 12 yards for $1.47 Search Results | Shop Hobby Lobby How well is this materiel lasting as far as burning up?

I don't believe it's the same kind of hemp. I got some from hobby lobby and it didn't wick very good and the taste was quite strong.

Got this from lovepedal this evening:

Dear BJ43,

I have bad news. I hate to break it to everyone. But our hemp that is 2mm that we thought is 12 strand. Is not 12 strand. It is 3-4 strand and very thick. That site someone found that at is hemptraders.shop033.com is the place that sells that 2mm that is thick and 3-4 strand. If you would like, we can send you a sample of it and see if it will work for all of your needs. I would hate to put it up and people think it is that nice smooth stuff and it isnt at all. I am so disappointed in hemptraders new order of 2mm. Let me know :)

- lovepedal

My reply: The 3-4 strand does not wick as good as the 12 strand and I would not recommend it for our use. Let me know if you get the 12 strand in.

Well I guess I will have some more hemp to add to the corner of misfit wick supplies :D

Was there another source for the good 2mm?

rawganique.com sells 2mm/12 strand hemp, here, look for product TW12B200 (5th picture).

I'm waiting for my order from them to arrive for evaluating it, though, so not sure yet it's any good for our purposes.

Pretty cool that she preemptively let you know about that. Hope they get more of the good stuff. I'm actually still getting by on cheesecloth, but I'll give lovepedals stuff a try if you hear they get the goods in. Thanks for letting us know too.

I've been using the 1mm doubled over with 2.8ohms. Because the lovepedal 2mm was sold out. I'm getting awesome results. I wrap my coil on a drill bit and then thread the wick in dry. I've found that the wick expands so much that I have to leave it really loose and let it swell for a day or two. I make them ahead of time and soak them in VG. This method makes absolutely perfect wicks for me. My first couple I wrapped like silica and although they worked good right away, they would quickly swell and restrict capillary action. Since I don't make oval coils like BJ, I've been trying to unwrap the strands quite a bit before threading them in the coil, so it entirely fills the space. When swollen.

Can't really say I have had any success with a vertical genisis hemp, cotton, or bamboo wick. I am using hemp in the CE5, vivi nova, A7, terminator-c, choddy, and penny. Have not used SS in quite a while.

BJ,
On your geny style atty's are you running a single vertical wick with the hemp or are you using extra holes and using a U shaped horizontal wick?

I was thinking of trying the horizontal in an AGA-T2....when my hemp shows up that is :D

Using my mini kerosine lamps I have never been able to reproduce any reduction in capillary action because of wick expansion. I built similar wicks, one free and one snug when dry in a simulation coil (8 wraps 2.5 mm dia). In all my tests the wicks that expanded into a coil wicked a little more efficient than the free wicks. This was consistent with cotton, bamboo, and hemp. On all my burns the snug coiled wicks burn the measured fuel faster. On organic wicks I concluded that touching when dry but not tight was the best for me and any expansion just aided in wetting the coil.

PS. Also did a burn test with 12 strand hemp as it comes and unwrapped. It wicked much faster just as it comes. Comes back to basic physics of capillary action. The smaller the holes the better the capillary action. When wrapped the holes are the spaces between the threads, unwrapped the spaces are too large and just the adhesion of liquid climbs up the thread slowly with no space to fill to continue the adhesion.

I tried out hemp for the first time this week in a dripper. I can say I like it. I tried cotton and its great just becomes very soft and tears very easy. Hemp holds up well. Ordered 1mm from lovepedal did 3 boils and drained and rinsed each time. I kind of like the earthy flavor from the hemp. I used some diy vanilla Bourbon graham cracker 60/40 pg/VG 24mg juice I made. Its a very sweet flavor but the hemp gives it nice flavor. Adds a bit of complexity to it. I have an IGO L coming can't wait to try it in that.

I tried my first Hemp wick in my Term-C. I'm using the 2mm from Amazon doubled up on the coil. First let me say that it's wicking great...much better than I expected to tell the truth, no dry hits or gurgles and I chain-vape. But the taste...hrmmm. I'm hoping it will improve over time but I can't say I'm a big fan of the rope flavor I am getting. I did boil it for 30 min. twice over but I'm still tasting it. It's too bad because the functionality of it as a wick is fantastic...just as good as silica performs in the Term-C as far as I can tell. Should I go for a third boil? Is there anything else I can soak the hemp in to remove the rope taste (caused by tannins like in wood maybe?)?

So far, couldn't find any working method for pre-conditioning the hemp so to eliminate the initial 'rope' taste... but it will vanish almost completely in a few minutes of vaping - depending on taste buds quality, and juice being used.

After the initial break-in period, however, the taste will only slightly surface again - just an hint of it - when the hemp wick is about to go dry; I came to appreciate that, now think of it as a sort of friendly warning :)

Right you are sir. It has ebbed off a good deal (vaped about 2ml through it so far). I gues I will just have to get used to the "break-in" on a new wick because now I've either gotten acclimated/desensitized to it or it really has gone away to just a hint...And the performance has even improved a little I think. I'm really going "steamboat" on it just to test if it can hold up and so far so good...no dry or burny taste at all. I'm truly impressed with the wicking. I thought I would have to pace myself a little switching from silica especially since I use thick 100% VG but it's keeping up just fine. I'm sure the fact that Odys and Ody clones have gravity on thier side helps with this but still...good stuff.

Just to add to the database of places to buy hemp cord. I got this hemp at Michael's in the beading department. It looks very much like the stuff they sell on ebay and "bead landing" seems to be a Michael's branding name. One of the many great things about hemp is it doesn't need pesticides while actually helping the soil and it is strong in it's natural form--no economic reason to add anything to it.--but who knows? This stuff did pass the cotton like burn test-nothing but pure ash and no funky burning of synthetic anything.

I've been using it and it was convenient to buy to experiment, especially the assorted sizes. I can't remember what I paid.

Nice assortment of sizes. I've use the thinnest 10lb with a strand of cotton for a hybrid wick. This stuff is darker, stiffer and a bit more woodsy than the next single size one. I tried to separate the threads so you could see how many in each size. Boiling makes them slightly larger and more boiling is good to soften them up. It is made in Romania.

This 20lb stuff is softer and lighter than the assorted card and woodsy taste isn't as strong. I use it the most. It is made in China.

This is the back of the cards just to give more info.
