Thought i should share... i bought a pet brush at the store that looks almost just like a carding brush and works wonders for fluffing the fiber after washing... I kinda wish i had bought two, but it still works with one.

Sent from my Matricom G-Box Midnight MX2 using Tapatalk 4

funny you would mention that, after posting about using the forks, a dingDingDING went off in my head reminding me that i had one of those somewhere. i went on the search and found it. scrubbed in down with dish soap and tried it. it works good on the semi-dry and dry fiber, but the forks worked better for me on the wet stuff.

i could be wrong, but my concern with making sure one gets the wet fiber *forked/brushed/fluffed* and spread out thin to dry faster has to do with the possibility of mold. since i don't know if there is any need for this concern, i'm just going to make sure it is completely dry before putting the excess in a paper (not plastic) bag.
anyone else have thoughts on that ^^^ concern?

yes i should've clarified that i was referring to processing DRY material after it has been washed. Mine came out quite clumpy after drying. I used forks while boiling to keep it from clumping but then stuck it in a sock bag and swung it over my head to get out excess water... this was a mistake cause it compressed it all. It really didnt matter though cause once dry, the dog brush, got it silky smooth with no clumps. The dog brush really helps distribute the fibers evenly in a thin sheet.

Couple of new hemp setups to report on.

Taifun GT - 1.8 ohm 9 wrap (1.5mm) dual twisted 32g micro coil horizontal with uber clean hemp wick thru the coil.

Russian - 1.6 ohm 10 wrap (2mm) triple twisted 32g micro coil vertical with uber clean hemp.

Got about a tank on each setup and so far these are the best setups to date in each atty. The twisted 32g wire heats up faster than thicker wire, and my uber clean hemp is providing the best flavor of a fiber wick to date for me.

Several tanks in....and I'm just smitten.....and buzzed!!!....I can't put this thing down :D

I need to revisit my Russian build as it's not performing as well as I think it could.

Yes...yes...yes....gotta agree with Bap here. Hemp in the Taifun is outstanding! This atty set-up performs much better with an above ohm coil too. The double twist ribbon is kicking it up a few notches as well. Must resist.....

Slight twist to making the wick...The fibers are combed straight for the in-coil wick and the slots get a puffed up hemp ball for the juice barrier. Perfect juice flow!

I was using a 2mm coil for twine so when i switched to fiber, it was wicking too much. I just switched to a 1.5mm coil 30ga 1.4ohms and this seems to be the perfect diameter. 1.4ohm @@15watts is pure heaven... its vaping so well, it seems like i could give it more power if my PV allowed it.

"If you want to learn how to catch a fish" do as the locals do… every little thing.

i imagine the above wicking technique would work on the Aqua as well only twice….?

Finally got my KFL back. I set up a hemp wick with straight fibers Aqua Style in the channels....Unfortunately, it didnt keep up with a sub-ohm coil. The KFL channels are too restrictive. The Aqua should fair better. No worries, just pulled the tails back out of the channels and went back to vape nirvana. This is out wicking any cotton setup I have put in the KFL. Another win for hemp fiber. (there really was no reason for doing Aqua style with KFL...purely one of those things you do...just because you can do it. :) )

One more thing bout uber cleaning... Im getting ZERO off flavor, not even on the first puff. I did the standard wash that BJ described, but i also added Baking Soda to the first boil, but no H2O2. It foams up plenty w/o h2o2 added. The baking soda thing made sense to me cause when you clean cheesecloth after making cheese they always tell you to boil it in baking soda. So yeah you might have something there, cause my fiber tastes like absolutely nothing.

Just wanted to repost this over here:
So here is a pic comparing different processing of the hemp fiber. On the left is the raw fiber, in the middle is my first batch (boil rinse 3x for 5 mins, hydrogen peroxide/baking soda bath, rinse boil, rinse. Microwave dry) and on the right is sample of Bapgoods "Uber" clean stuff. Slightly different approach, more boils, used an extended Oxyclean bath etc...

Yup, Baps is much whiter than mine. Head to head vape testing goes to Baps Uber Clean. Wicking is the same but on taste his is slightly smoother and and a bit more even. No real woodyness in either batch, so it was difficult to differentiate. As you process the hemp it looses its fuzzyness and get more fiber like. You can feel a difference in material texture. All are very soft, but Baps has a silkier feel. I think Bap needs to repost on his technique...

Hi-res version for zooming in - if interested.

lol....I was getting around to posting that in here....here it is

So here it was I did as close I can remember.

Note - I processed a lot at one time probably about 5-8oz's and it was kind of a pita dealing with that much.

My first try was a half lazy attempt.

I put the whole batch in a wash bag and into the washing machine and washed it on the sanitize cycle.
Then boiled for 30 minutes and rinsed three times. Then I put it back in the wash bag and dried it the dryer. It came out really clumped and matted and was a pita to pull apart and fluff. I think a lot of this was due to dealing with so much and not pat drying and pulling apart before drying in the dryer. The flavor was ok and got better as the first tank went on, but there was always a little bit of dark "hemp" tweak to the flavor.

So I decided to try again and make sure it was clean!!!

Here are my steps for processing the first batch for a second time.

Boiled for like 10 minutes to loosen it up.
Rinse
HP&BS (hydrogen peroxide and baking soda)
Rinse
Boil 20min
Rinse
Soaked in oxyclean for a day while I was at work
Rinse
Boil 15min
Rinse
HP&BS
Rinse
Boil 30min
Rinse
Boil 30min
Rinse
Boil 30min
Air dried for a couple of days...minus a small batch I dried in the microwave, which actually turned out really good. I just air dried out of laziness mainly since I had some to use.

If I do it again with a fresh batch of hemp this would probably be my procedure:

First and for most I would go through the hemp and pull out all the woody looking pieces and dark fibers while the hemp is dry and easy to pull apart and sort through.

Then....
Hand wash with a dish detergent like dawn or etc.
Rinse
Soak in oxyclean for 6+ hours
Rinse
Boil 15min
Rinse
HP&BS
Rinse
Boil 30min
Rinse
Boil 30min
Rinse
Boil 30min
Rinse
Pull apart and pat dry with paper towels
Dry using either the microwave or clothes dryer.

I know it sounds like a long and huge pita, but the end results are worth it IMHO. It really didn't seem that bad to do. I really think the oxyclean and HP&BS are key, I really noticed the color change after the oxyclean soak.

Bap, how much HP, BS, and Oxiclean did/would you use? I have one of the Tibs bags of hemp :)

I soaked the hemp in a generous amount hp for few minutes and kind of stirred it around and then dumped a generous amount of bs and then stirred it and then rinsed it really good with hot water.

Oxyclean I probably used way more than enough. I just filled bowl with hot water and added in the oxyclean and stirred it up good and then put in the hemp and pulled it apart the best I could with a fork and let soak.

Sorry I don't have better quantities, plus I was dealing with a lot more hemp than most will.

No worries, I appreciate it anyway :) I'll have fun trying to figure it out (I hope). Drying will be the interesting part...I don't have a microwave and I do laundry at a laundromat...the joys of city living

i put my pancake (after boiling and draining then patting with towel) in a zippered pillow case and threw it in the dryer with some half dried clothes… it took a bit longer than the clothes to dry, but works great.
Had to kind of unfurl it but it still held the basic shape (gnarly pancake).

For those like me that don't have Oxyclean available. Use the HP&BS soak for 6 hours.

Homemade OxyClean Ingredients

2 parts water
1 part hydrogen peroxide
1 part washing soda

I use 2 cups water, 1 cup hydrogen peroxide, and 1 cup baking soda. This is a liquid recipe and also reminds me somewhat of Shout spray.

Brought this forward....
