Ive grown tired of the hassle of rolling, oxidizing, and dealing with hotspots on stainless mesh wicks. Also as a welder ive known stainless is bad to breath when welding so always wondered about prolonged chainvaping on it.

Ive ordered 10 yards natural hemp on ebay and plan to try it out in about 10 different rebuildable tanks I have.

Ive read genesis style tanks are tough to get wicking good, I hope I can get it working since I have several aga tanks.

I been thinking about getting a kanger protank... so hemp works well in these? Is the protank a bottomfed or similar to vivi nova minis?

The Protanks are very good. The heads are easy to rebuild as well. The draw is pretty airy though. I prefer the airy draw since I could control my draw pretty well. I have 4 protanks right now and I prefer them over my Vapeonly BCC because they dont build up condensation under the drip tip. My local billiard shop has a vape closet hidden in the back and they carry the new Vivi Nova bottom coil. It uses the same head, it seems, like the T3 wick is pretty much the same head as a protank. The guy still said the protank is better though. Maybe because of condensation under the drip tip?

My experience with free-hand-with-needle wrapping was:

1) the shape of coil doesn't get evenly round, with a sharp corner where the needle was during the wrapping, which sometimes creates hot spots and thus foul taste.
2) the coil is too tight on wick, strangling the wicks even with the needle. Bigger needle might solve this but then the shape of coil becomes even more uneven.

For me it was hit or miss. I sometimes got awesome vape with free-hand-wrapped coil/wick but sometimes foul metallic taste from hot spots or rope taste from strangled burning hemp. So I started winding the coil first on a nail or a drill bit making it perfectly round, then pass the wick through it so it's loose enough, and it's been working flawlessly every time. I think it work especially well with hemp wicks because they tend to swell alot when wet.

I just used your method on my protank. I tried BJ first where I just stick with the origial silica wick and add 2 feeder on top but the taste was slightly muted. I used a 2mm screw and I needled 2 wicks through and added one feeder to seal everything up and there was an noticeable increase in flavor and no sacrifice in vapor production. I like how the protanks seems to put out more vapor then my vapeonly bcc

Yeah I'm yet to try protank but from what I heard it performs as good as Evod. I have a few Evods and it somehow performs better than Vapeonly. I think the atty chamber in Evod/Protank is little bigger than the vapeonly's. Maybe the more air in the chamber helps vaporizing better? I don't know....

Chet can I was wondering wick hemp are you using? I got the lovepedal 1mm 7S. It measures a lil bigger than 1mm. I have a nail that about 2.5mm. I used your method with this and it seem it was getting strangled. From my past with cotton makeup rounds and carton yarn. With the yarn I found that if i twisted it really small and use more of the 4 strand pieces of yarn I get more flavor and vapor compared to if I only use 1(4 strands). I just built a head in the protank twisting up my hemp to make it smaller and there is enough room now that I can slight the wicks side to side. I'm letting it soak for 10minutes and I will report back.

I have the same lovepedal 1mm 7S and it does seem slightly thicker than 1mm after dried from boiling. I just rebuilt my vapeonly atty again. I opened it and took the wicks out from the coil, dry burned and rinsed in running water, inserted four wicks, took one out and put it back in. I was getting burnt hemp taste this time for some reason, so I opened it again and pulled out about 4 strands of a wick and reassembled. Now it's giving me perfect vape. Just a few strands thinner and what a difference...

I've been using this same coil for about 5 rebuild sessions and it's still working well.

Okay here is what I am going to try tonight. I use 3 wicks which total 21 strands. But my theory with this in my 2.5mm coil si that not enough wick surface meets coil and its a little tight. so it only get contact in certain areas. I am going to pull the 2 thicker strands from the original 7S and put 4 small 5S wicks through the 2.5mm coil. That'll give me a total for 20 soft strands divided up between 4 wicks of 5S. I'll report back. I seem to get more even wick/coil contact area when I free hand 3 wicks with a needle.

Update : I took 2 bigger strands out and put 4 5S wick through a 2.5mm Coil made on a nail and its great. I used ecblends dragon's blood. I was barely able to taste this juice in any of my other builds even with cotton. Not to mention even if I did taste it enough to barely enjoy it there was absolutely not throat hit. Now it taste like the first time again with a throat hit.

If anyone would like pictures I will post.

Here is what you will need:

x1 disassembled head (take your pick)
x2 1mm 7S(strands)-lovepedal- HEMP
x1 Resistance wire (take your awg pick) I chose 30 7 wraps to make 1.8ohms
x1 Piece of wire to make a needle
x1 Nail thats about 2mm-3mm MINE IS A TAD UNDER 3MM

Making the needle with resistance wire

Untwist the 7S HEMP and take out 1-2 strands depending on what you feel like would perform best. For me with my nail I take 2 strands out of 1 wick and 1 strand out of the second one. So I take a total for 3 strands out total. After you removed your desired number or strands you just simply twist up the hemp again. The hemp will be doubled over into the coil so (5x2) + (6x2) = (10) + (12) = 22S divided between 4 wicks.

Now make your coil

I move the coil Left and right to get it smaller to fit into the head. Pay attention to the direction the coil is at between the two pictures.

Now get your retwisted hemp and needle ready. Line the middle of the wick with the needle. Then you will simply use the needle to get the wicks through. Once through you can either cut the needle or cut the ends of the hemp. I choose to cut the hemp so I can reuse the needle later.

I chose 1 wick with 5S and 1 wick with 6S because of the nail that I use. 4 5S wick gives me gurgling near the end of the tank and the taste was okay but not as good as x2 5S and x2 6S. ALso the x4 5S fits too loosely inside my coil and the x2 5S x26S fits just right with room to expand and not choke.

Now just finished everything up and get it into the head and wires all clipped up.

I fluff up the ends of the wicks to prevent flooding of my VAPEONLY BCC. I don't get this problem in any of my other heads.

Try different size coils and number of strands till you find your desired #
